  1. Shorts will be fine, unless the air conditioning is having a moment.
  2. I really have never found a problem with moving round the ship and really can’t see that there is more than a minor one, unless you are in a wheelchair.
  3. I say I don’t care much what people wear, and have very little interest in clothes which is why I am happy to dress up for formal nights. Nonetheless, I was very taken with arriving in the QG on our last cruise to find everyone splendidly attired in black and white: it was really most impressive. Equally, I don’t want to be sitting near someone in the theatre, who is attired in a sweaty t-shirt they have been wearing all day, while touring a Med. port. So I do take some interest.
  4. The more detail they give the more difficult it becomes. I’m sure no woman would be banned for wearing a smart sleeveless t-shirt. This must refer only to men.
  5. And particularly if with a jacket it wouldn’t be very noticeable.
  6. What is the dark brown lump on the right? Our clocks went back last night, so you are still on UK time, I think.
  7. I’m not sure about that. I don’t think many people would object to someone of either sex wearing a hacking jacket on an informal night, which equally is sports attire.
  8. Why so vehement? All I can say is I’ve never found particular difficulties, though I know you sometimes have to go and and down a little, but it is not hard.
  9. How can you get lost on QM2? She’s straightforwardly symmetrical.
  10. She was designed as a three class ship, built for two classes, and eventually became one class. This meant among other things that very few staircases went through the whole ship.
  11. Can I ask what proportion of your fellow passengers are from the US. What other nationalities have you detected?
  12. Quite honestly, if you can, I would cancel the cruise. I fear that, if you go with that feeling in the pit of your stomach, you will have an experience dominated by your annoyance at minor glitches, however nice the rest is. Get out while you can. (Incidentally, I have loved every Cunard cruise I’ve been on, but I’ve never embarked feeling as you do.)
  13. He is long dead. When my godchildren were very young, I trained them to recognise closed railways in the landscape, and shout ‘Wicked Dr. Beeching’. One of them at least, now in his late thirties has never forgotten it.
  14. Goodness, that must have been quite unusual. Was she a nurse?
  15. Dr., as in Ph.D, he always was referred to as doctor. I imagine he thought it made him seem brainier.
  16. You should see them pretend to terrorise my husband with the pepper grinder.
