  1. Not a specific time, but you have to wait until the ship is ready. Breakfast starts early on the last day, so there is time for that beforehand. I think there are both lifts and escalators, but there may be a fairly lengthy walk oblong the airbridge to get to the terminal.
  2. I believe you still can, but don’t know the mechanics. For a while, many years ago, it was hugely advantageous to UK passengers because Cunard used a very generous exchange rate. I don’t think they do this any more.
  3. Organising the tables to people’s satisfaction is the Maître d’h’s job. There is no reason to tip (bribe) him in advance to do it. Now, if it was something really out of the ordinary that he had to organise, say roast suckling pig for a table of ten on the first day, that would be worthy of a big tip, though I would still favour giving it on accomplishment. Tipping in advance is telling a professional person that you think their only motivation to perform their job correctly is extra money. I should find that rather insulting.
  4. Well, given the general administrative chaos that often seems to pervade Carnival House, I’m vaguely surprised they managed to press any buttons on the right day. 😀 Still, it’s why we love them.
  5. I too, when aboard in August, couldn’t see what people were moaning about. Certainly parts of the outside looked weathered and rusty, but, while I was aboard, there were a lot of people out working on different areas. We were on a Med. cruise which offered lots of opportunities for this sort of care. Normally, however, she is crossing the Atlantic, which means lots of rusting, etc, but far fewer opportunities to work on it.
  6. And even worse in a way is seeming to say that you’ve got lots of dosh so you expect to be treated better than your fellow passengers. Actually this applies at all levels. I would not expect a passenger in a Q1 to be treated with greater courtesy and helpfulness than those in an inside cabin, and I don’t think they are.
  7. I’m not sure the luggage unloaders are CPS employees. I think they may be port employees.
  8. I’d stick with the balcony, but I imagine the forward view up and down the Elbe is impressive.
  9. Or perhaps a polite but insistent request would do it. Lots of people move tables on the first day for all sorts of reasons. I doubt many feel bribery necessary to achieve this.
  10. I think the problem lies if you decide to postpone booking for some reason not to do with the price, and then see it rise as it seems to be.
  11. If I were adept at manipulating images, I should enjoy showing a Cunarder in a rabbit warren. Luckily you are spared. 😀😀
  12. Are these huge fluctuations only on QA or on all the ships?
  13. On my first crossing, on QE2, Captain Hazel apparently took us 600 miles south of our planned course to avoid a storm. It was still very rough that night, and the next morning a thousand people missed breakfast. It was a Sunday, and we sang For Those in Peril on the Sea extremely fervently in the morning service.
  14. They often have turkey, even in mid-summer, so it would seem pretty likely.
  15. The currency is the pound sterling, though I imagine they would take euros as well.
  16. When we did a Christmas cruise, there was roast goose in Christmas Eve, and roast turkey on Christmas Day, which was a formal night. There were other choices as well, which I can’t remember.
  17. Well, in a movie it would be inevitable. 😀
  18. They have refused to take people requiring oxygen for some time now, probably ever since Covid. It is clearly signalled on the website. Whether it breaks disability discrimination laws is moot.
  19. Often it has come before we go to dinner on the first night, but sometimes the next day. I suppose it might depend on whether they have passengers to unpack for.
  20. I wouldn’t necessarily expect it arrive on embarkation day, as they are very busy, but I would expect to get what I asked for.
  21. Interestingly, I almost wrote grumpy. 😀 In any case it is inexcusable. Surely, if you have ordered gin, it should be automatic that they stuff the fridge with tonic every day.
  22. I’m sure it does in QG, but that doesn’t really apply in BC.
