  1. Gratuities for the voyage usually appear on the account immediately, I think, so will be there when they allocate the Cunard obc, if that makes sense.
  2. The only thing I’ve ever thought of booking soon after boarding was the ship’s tour, which they don’t seem to be doing at present. The Grills Concierge will be friendly and helpful, and have Planetarium tickets - or used to. Lunch starts later on embarkation day. Indeed in July it started at 1.30, so you shouldn’t miss it. This also gives you a chance to try and get your table changed if you don’t like the position. im sure you’ll have a lovely time -weather permitting.
  3. Poor Hattie. I think you are fully entitled to a rant. As an advocate of strict precautions, I find Cunard’s approach quite odd. You don’t need to test before boarding, or, if you do, you can lie about it, and you don’t have to wear masks. So you can come onboard with Covid and spread it around as much as you like, But then, if one of the people you infect notifies them, they are quarantined, and their close contacts more or less put into purdah. This doesn’t seem logical. Surely at the very least they should go back to robust preboarding testing? Hope you are soon liberated. How is Mr. HH?
  4. What about the Café Carinthia? That does light lunches.
  5. Ice carving, like gingerbread villages, never prompts any reaction other than ‘Why?’.
  6. Especially when , apparently, lots more drinks have been sold. Many/most passengers may not have much interest in football. They may prefer the quizzes and music and other things that go on in the Golden Lion.
  7. Not always a female. I remember males doing both these things. I loved it when they took the covering off and the great salmon appeared, and, as you say, they carved it beautifully, as much as you fancied.
  8. Poor Mr. HH, and poor you. I thought they were now allowing people to stay in their own cabins to quarantine?
  9. I too hate flying, to the extent I don’t do it, even though I know how safe it is. However, from your point of view, the good thing is that you get it over with first, and then have all the nice bits, rather than having it hang over your holiday. Have a gorgeous time on QM2.
  10. I think there is still someone who comes round with the patisserie tray. Do you remember the smoked salmon trolley on QE2?
  11. Almost always, UK Cunard passengers who book the Cunard fare in effect get free gratuities, because, the obc offered usually covers them.
  12. That is not what my email said.
  13. The menu in PG may be more extensive. The PG cabins are half as big again as BC ones, not just slightly larger. Unfortunately, except on QM2, they are a nasty shape and the extra space is wasted.
  14. I doubt it. Enjoy more choice than ever before with our elevated Britannia Club experience. Look forward to an enhanced menu and special, theatrical table side service celebrating some of our feature dishes, all of which you can enjoy from your own private, reserved table. The luxury continues in your stateroom with brand new complimentary mineral water, your own espresso coffee machine, sumptuous bathrobes, and other amenities.
  15. According to an email I received today, they will still be offering early and late sittings.
  16. I have had an email, saying open dining will be offered, as well as early and late sittings. It also describes enhancements to Brit. Club, as the main reason for booking it has now been removed.
  17. Remember your keycard has your photo embedded. Many of us have had to have our photo retaken at the terminal, and yet there the card is when you get to your cabin, so it can obviously be done very quickly. There are always cabins left spare.
  18. Of course, it would be even better if, like a hotel we often stay at, they had a permanent note on my file, saying to give this woman blankets, but that is a bit too much to hope. 😀
  19. I don’t like duvets much anyway, and invariably find Cunard’s too hot. So, I always ring customer service a couple of weeks before, hopefully at a quiet time, and request a blanket. I think it has only failed to appear once.
  20. Poor lone cicada. I think your assistant waiter needs educating out of that fault before he gives someone something they really can’t eat. Really quite bad.
  21. Now, now, think a moment. If it’s the last night of the voyage, the ship won’t be in mid ocean. On the other hand, blundering up the Channel under demoniacal control might be far worse. 😀😀
  22. So they don’t really mean it, but, while I would never risk it, I suspect that, if you arrive that late, the boarding process is extremely rapid, because there are few other passengers and the staff want to go home.
  23. To me it sounds as if you are having a great time. It does show why some reviews are so bad, if such little things are regarded as trials and tribulations.
