  1. Hello, I am planning on spending a few nights in London prior to catching a cruise from Southampton. I arrive on a Sunday and the ship leaves on Thursday.

My hotel areas I am looking at are Gloucester Rd (easy to get from LHR) or Victoria Station(easier to get the bus to the ship and the tour I want to Stonehenge). How difficult would it be on Thursday morning to get on the tube with my luggage if I stay near Gloucester Rd?

I've previously stayed near Gloucester Rd and Russell Sq.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks in advance

  2. I've used Cellular at sea on other cruise lines. If you are at sea and not in any port, the only other options would be either the ship phone (they used to be approx. $8 a minute) or VoIP (if you computer allows but then you are using data).

If you must be on this call, I would use Cellular at Sea at approx. $2.50 a minute (I have AT&T) but make plans for someone else to cover in case you cannot get connection.

I have been on cruises where on occasion, there is no cellular service.

  3. Old video. You're missing the point that a thief doesn't want to take an extra 30 seconds. They want to get in now. That extra 30 seconds could mean someone sees them breaking in.

Exactly why I do lock my luggage...every thing I can do to make it extra work for them, I do. But then again, I don't pack any valuables in my checked luggage.

  4. Happened to me on another line. They pointed everyone to the buffet. I had read one of the sandwich places was also open, and not so busy, so we went there instead. I asked the staff later and they had been told by management to send everyone to the buffet.

As a previous poster noted, it might not have been open when you arrived.

  5. NCL won't charge you if you don't use their phone for calls. He can buy a data package to use the internet to check email. I haven't used it before but I sure you could find the prices online. I use my phone when traveling.

  6. Shop around! I generally have booked with that large warehouse but they now charge for changes to your reservation. Meaning if you want to re-book to capture a price reduction, you pay them $25 each time.

I didn't find their prices were any better for NCL. I ended up booking with another warehouse.

  7. Must be either because we chose the late show and got the 25% off. Incidentally, I booked ahead of time and paid $39, then the night of the show I had a credit of $39 and a charge of $29 for each person.

If you buy the UDP, then it's free the first night.

Do you need to pre-book the UDP to get it free? Or can you book once on the ship? I want to use my shipboard credit.

    Thanks

  8. Here we go again....

Pre existing only refers to the travelers.... Not their elderly relatives left at home

So unless you,the traveler, have a pre existing condition OR your parents have a pre existing condition AND are traveling with you AND are buying a travel insurance policy as well, then the pre existing waiver is useful.

    However

    IF

You are concerned about having to cancel due to your non traveling parents illness .... Then pre existing means nothing to you and unfortunately...as pre existing only refers to the travel party not stay at home ill immediate relatives

The part of YOUR insurance that counts is the coverage that will pay for you to fly back in the sad event that your parent is gravely ill.....or worse.

Thanks for the condescending tone....but that is what I am talking about and I was stating my opinion. And yes, I do clearly read the fine print of the coverage to ensure I know what I am purchasing.

  9. Thanks to everyone for answering my question about safety when traveling alone.

Sorry for the spelling error that I will correct when searching for my hotels:)

On my previous trips to London I've stayed near the British Museum and V&A but this time looking for something with much easier access (plus I will need to get to the Waterloo station, I believe) for transport to Southampton.

I will take any suggestions on reasonably (preferrably under $200 a night) priced hotels as I haven't booked anything yet as I am still a year out. I will check out Elegant English Hotels.

    Thanks again

  10. Hello - I've been to London a few times but never solo. On my upcoming TA, I want to spend a few days in London. I haven't booked my hotel yet but looking near Glouster Road or Earl's Ct (easy access from Heathrow).

My question is, how safe is it to wander around London at night? I want to try for tickets to the Ceremony of the Keys at the Tower but am concerned with walking around and taking the tube late in the evening.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks in advance

    Dena
