Since turq is apparently readying herself for lining up with a buzzer to wait 15 minutes for a table, uncaring service and mediocre food ---- the magic of NCL "free style dining"--- plus shorts, sweats and cutoffs on "formal nights"

I'll pass along the scheduled Cunard events from the Cunarder mentioned

1 In honor of the 175th anniversary of Mr Cunards first scheduled Brittania TA all three Queens will be returning to the Mersey and Liverpool on 25 May 2015. Details of where they go from there to be announced

2 On July 4, exactlly 175 years to the day, the "retired out of reach glorified yacht" Queen Mary 2 will depart from Liverpool and retrace the steps of the Brittania to Halifax and then Boston.
There was a time when the QM2 had winter cruises from NY
I know because I booked at least 4
There was more transatlantic service
From April.
There was a lot less Norway and northern
Europe cruises in the middle of transatlantic
Service
NCL Breakaway services NY and sails to
Bermuda , Bahamas and Caribbean with a consistent
Schedule ( this was the plan of the QM2)
The ship is beautiful ! Great restaurants
Buffet is amazing. High tech. And there is an upper class
Like the Grilles. And private deck , hot tubs bAr
And pool
And no flying:)
Don't knock it unless you tried it:eek:

Salacia I hope you don't mind, but I had to use
Your quote for my new post.
Thank you Cunard for making the
Ocean liner of 2004 QM2 a retired , out of reach, a glorified yacht
The S/S Queen Elizabeth has surpassed the QM2
In popularity here on cruise credit:confused:
3. Well, I didn't actually really notice before LOL. I did see however, that Cunard seemed to have a problem with following through with what the menu presents, but more on that later ^^. I actually found the portions to be alright. I sometimes had trouble finishing all of my food! I quite liked the small portions, this meant I could try more things!

I agree! And oddly enough, this was actually the best looking bacon during the whole trip -_-. They were usually much harder. LOL

Exactly! I never double up, I always order something else :D, I'd much rather eat two different things as opposed to two of the same.

:P Today at least LOL, the next days were so very hard and crunchy!

To be honest Harvey, our family actually found that the food was not up to par with our standards :/ We actually were a little bit disappointed. There were really only a small handful of dishes that we tried, and loved! We have a relatively large family, so we would usually order different things and try each others food, so it wasn't really a personal opinion issue, it was the collective whole. Not saying that they were bad, just, not impressed.

Oh, really? Did you see me? :D You couldn't have possibly missed me, my sister & I were literally the ONLY kids on board. ^^~

Oh no! D: That's terrible! I would be absolutely devastated if anything happened to my pictures after returning home from my trip! I'm so glad that we went on the same trip so that you would still be able to see pictures from it! && Nice photos! ^^

Thank you!

Yay :D! I quite liked the variety! Glad you're enjoying!

Thank you! :P We actually do go to church every Sunday (unless everyone in the house is working and my sister and I are left at home)! Haha that's wonderful. (:

Hi. You should submit your post to Cunard.

They may be able to use it in their advertising of

The S/S Queen Elizabeth

It has all the right elements:D

4. I am onboard QE now!

The daily program placed in the cabin prior to departure had a list of the dress codes for each evening so people could plan their wardrobes. It listed that night as optional formal/ informal.

Please do not assume that which you can not possibly know.

Thanks for the info. And thank Whitemarsh to help

Clarify the post

But why was the dress code changed?

5. The optional formal was set prior to the start of the trip and listed as such in the first day's program. It was not a decision made based on the seas (unless Cunard is truely prescient).

The option was set before the sailing. The Commodore / Captain has no say

Of his ship at sea , including force 10 gale

And 30 ft waves

But you juliocat , from Seattle Washington

USA. Is the expert of the Cunard line:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

6. The optional formal was set prior to the start of the trip and listed as such in the first day's program. It was not a decision made based on the seas (unless Cunard is truely prescient).

And how do you know this? Are you in seatle Washington ?

Or inboard the ship?

7.
Fu

Fully booked with 3000+ pax going one way each way and 25 or less at best going B2B round trip...a market too small to fill one of the zodiacs on board. But you are right about not losing money which is why there are more than a score of scheduled Cunard voyages to and from NYC every year
Don't know about Cunard marketing and finances .
But the back to back sailings are booked .
It maintains the transatlantic schedule
8. Right, no land tours on a crossing...but angry seas can leave some passengers tired and worn out, to the extent that formal attire might just be too much to ask. Or so I have been told.

You are so right Salacia :)

I have been in rough seas in the North

Atlantic . I didn't want to move , let alone

Dress in formal attire

The Captain made the right decision for

The passengers. (Even more so on the Queen Elizabeth)

9.
Quite a sweeping statement I think! I think that the Canada/East Coast trips are very popular but I've sailed many times to and from NYC when the ship hasn't been full.
Well the only cruises from NY are the 2 to
Canada and the 5 day July 4 celebration.
We agree they are fully booked and the Christmas one.
The transatlantic voyages have been
Fully booked . May thru October
October seems to be full from Southampton
To Ny , since many Brits then fly from ny to Florida
For the winter
The Qm2 may have relinquished her position
As a cruise ship from NY and the American market
I doubt if the QM2, at this point, will have the
Legacy of the QE2
10. Thank you. After reading additional online articles/videos she will be escorted out of China with the Chinese Navy, escorted into England with the English Navy and then into NY with the US Navy. Why all the escorts- fear it might sink?

After the maiden voyage I assume she will be doing a regular crossing schedule. I wonder what Cunard is thinking in terms of competition?

Well be honest. The original Titanic was built

In Ireland and England.

And you are worried about China?

11. The case of the missing Midnight Chocolate Buffet OR don't believe everything you read in the Daily Programme.

We've just returned from the 3rd January eastbound crossing on QM2. The much publicised and talked about Midnight Chocolate Buffet arranged for 11 pm in the Winter Garden was eagerly looked forward to by many passengers including many children who were on board. Not ones for this sort of thing, having witnessed the chocolate bunfight on QE on one cruise, we nevertheless went along out of curiosity to see what was on offer. A lot of passengers were there - with lots of young children who had been kept up late - but no staff and not a chocolate éclair or chocolate sponge cake in sight! Somebody went away to ask and came back to report that there had been a mistake in the daily programme. It would have been nice if somebody from Cunard could have announced this earlier or could have at least had somebody there to apologise instead of just leaving everybody to it! Unbelievable and unforgiveable. No star for the "White Star Service" on this occasion.

But the QM2 never had a chocolate midnight buffet?

Never. This is not in the style of the dinning mode of Cunard.

If it is true, what happened ?

Yes, who was the hotel manager inboard ?:D

12.
My total included TAs obviously so I think we are both close to agreement on QM2 voyages from and to Brooklyn.
Don't know that you are in agreement, :D but the point is Cunard has reduced
And ignored the New York Market(that also means
A great part of NE and mid west)
That's why I am booked on 2 future cruises
On NCL Breakaway. I also did one cruise
To Bermuda .
13.
Laat time we did a B2B TA we loved it but there were about 14 of us out of 3000+ pax each way. Probably not a large enough demo to construct your entire company business and marketing plan to attract.
But the Qm2 was fully booked . Every Transatlantic back to back
From or to Ny is.
The same for Qm2 cruises from Ny to Canada
Cunard never lost money from NY:D
14.
Well, we do dress nicely, we are always polite, and we eat moderately.

I should have mentioned that those prices and offers go back over three years. We stopped looking at that particular trip because the last one was disappointing.
Well you are the paying passenger and you don't have to qualify
Yourself to sail on a Cunard ship!
There are enough ships on the sea !
(No pun intended)
15.
So would I. But 2010 was the last QM2 Caribbean sailing outside of the annual Christmas voyage. NCL wouldn't work for me as don't care for the "free style" dining and atmosphere and would prefer not to spend my money on something not to my liking. And I would rather look out at the ocean than an atrium mall from my balcony.

Fortunately there are different lines to suit different tastes and personalities.
Hi there are balconies and suites with balconies on the Breakaway
I had beautiful sea views and Bermuda
Views from my stateroom
Free style dining is up to "you".
Again I prefer to sail than fly from my home
Port this winter
Cunard doesn't offer than option:D
16.
I can't believe it ... anyway: A chacun son goût.

Bon voyage!
Thanks Cats! But I am not giving up QM2.
I want to sail from NY to the Caribbean , this
Winter , without flying half way around the world to pick up
The QM2
NCL has Caribbean cruises from NY
All winter on the Breakaway.
If the QM2 had winter cruises from
NY, you all know I would book at least
2!!
:)
