  1. Thank you, everyone, for all the great feedback!

Great videos, Norwegian cruiser 73. I could probably do without the opera, though. Not quite the venue for that. Sounds like people were being blasted out of their seats. :o

By the middle of our last cruise I would have killed for a quiet, relaxed area to listen to a piano or strings. The crowds everywhere were incredible, and the music not very good. We ended up retreating to our cabin every night. We could have stayed home for that.

Sounds like Yacht Club may be just what I was looking for!

  2. Thinking of jumping ship to MSC.

Can anyone comment on the available music in the Yacht Club? I see there is a piano there. Anyone playing in the evenings? Just a single set, or several hours? Do they ever bring in a violin/strings?

    Thanks for your help!

  3. We can't be too sure. Maybe it all worked out and she never had to change clothes, therefore no interest in reporting back. Or she was shamed into changing clothes and she is too embarrassed to come back.

Not so sure. She said she was going to document the adventures of her ripped jeans photographically and post back here. She hasn't. That tells me it didn't go her way.

  4. For all the people that like to judge others clothing choices and the ones that have no fashion sense, I have decided to wear my $200 ripped jeans, and ripped pants everywhere on the ship, every day, every night. I actually went out and bought a few more pairs, just for the nay sayers here. While I will be put together nicely and wearing my expensive ripped jeans/pants, I am bringing my camera along to document my ripped jean journey. I am hoping to capture some of the nay sayers reactions, the smirks, appalled looks and see just how many places I can dine in with my ripped jeans. Look for my post in the next few weeks, it will be titled "My Ripped Jeans & I Sail The Escape". BTW, I'm old, which makes this even more fun!!!

Since the OP hasn't reported back, I guess that tells us how this worked out for her.

So how'd this work out for you?

  6. We were asked for our cabin number at every meal in the dining room on our recent Ruby sailing. It got quite annoying.

    Yep, seems standard now.

We were asked every night for 33 nights. Though by week two he’d say “C554 isn’t it”

If it's standard, why doesn't the hostess just take the information when they take the number of people in the party?

The annoying part was the seeming randomness of when the waiter would ask for our cabin number, usually by interrupting conversation. If the waiter must ask for the information, make it a part of the order taking process instead of an afterthought.

  7. I will never pay the price for the Haven again. Too many low-class low-lifes ruining the experience. (I could tell you so many stories, including being threatened with assault by a drunken bimbo.) The only thing I will consider anymore is the GV or OS on the Dawn/Star/Jewel class ships.

  8. cougaraz, unless I miss my guess, it was you that my DH chatted with at the Captain's Circle party. ;) We were seated with three others at a floor table directly in front of you.

Fun to read how much you enjoyed the food! But, inquiring minds want to know... How do you pack all that away?!? What's your secret? I feel like I pretty much picked at my food all week, and I still don't want to eat for the next three weeks. (One will certainly not starve on Princess.)

Agree with you on the funky way they handled excursions in Puerta Vallarta. As we were getting up to leave the theater, I asked DH why we bothered going to the theater?

We were both quite impressed with the efficiency of the tender operation in Cabo. We went to collect tender tickets and were instead ushered directly on a tender. No waiting coming back, either.

Saw more "interesting" passenger behavior on this cruise than we've ever experienced on Princess. Also saw quite a number of people who didn't dress according to code for dinner, and weren't turned away.

Our cabin steward was also a ghost, but highly efficient. We noticed our door lock blinking yellow when we boarded; I was waiting for the day it wouldn't open. Unlike other cruises, I never had to call this to our steward's attention; he took the initiative and had it taken care of. Also, on PV evening we had UBD booked. I inquired with the steward that morning about washing our balcony (soot-covered R751), which he took care of even though it was not balcony-washing time.

A few shout-outs to exceptional crew members -- Gideon in Vines (very pleasant and really on top of things!) and Ryan (sr. bar staff, in Skywalkers for PES cocktail hour). Be sure to look them up!

This was our first time sailing out of the west coast, and first time to Mexican Riviera. The weather was more chilly than we would have liked. (Yes, I knew about this ahead of time.) Having done it once, I don't think we'll do it again... at least, at this time of year.

Favorite Port: Cabo San Lucas, for whale and sea lion watching. We both agreed we like Cabo enough that we may wish to return there for a land-based vacation some time.

Thanks for the walk down memory lane, cougaraz!

  9. I'd used the laundry service numerous times without any problems, to include more delicate items. (I was very impressed when we took the behind-the-scenes tour to see one of my blouses hanging aside for special treatment.) That stopped when the laundry ruined one of my blouses. I still use it, but only for more hardy items.

To the user beware: Don't send your delicate items out to the laundry service.
