Thanks everyone for all the information.
I am seriously thinking about canceling my Princess Visa as it seems to take quite a few points to get OBC.
Think I'll stick with my new Airlines Card.

From the roll call thread, the current CD on the Island Princess is Callie Smit from South Africa. He is about 45 Years old. So far that ia all I have heard about him.

Yes, it is Callie Smit.
He's probably the best I've ever traveled with.
Funny, kind, helpful and hosts a lot of the Trivia and games himself.
As well he should....he's hilarious.

I just returned from a Panama Canal cruise on the Island Princess. LOVED the ship. Not too big not too small.
Easy to navigate and learn. The Wheelhouse and Explorers Lounge were used for Trivia, Games and Bingo.
Unfortunately, Happy Hour was in the Wheelhouse from 3:00 to 4:00 with Trivia starting (most days) at 4:00.
That was a scheduling issue with that should have been addressed by the person in charge.
Finally after a few complaints, they started scheduling the Trivia 15 to 30 minutes after Happy Hour to ease some of the "standing room only" issue.
There is not a Club Fusion or Skywalkers for large functions.
The air conditioning worked very well and the Fridge in the room kept everything really cold.
The Library is large and hosted game days periodically, as did Sabitinis..
The Casino is cramped due to the additional cabins that were added.
All in all, I enjoyed the ship.
The Cruise Director, Callie Smitt, was exceptional.
The Horizon Court is at the front of the ship making for some wonderful views while dining.
Even though there is no International Café, there is something similar at the Horizon Court. Also, a drink station. (no soda)
No new Princess Beds. The bed I had was tolerable.

Hi Gwen! Nice review - thank you.
We will doing the Fort Lauderdale to LA one April 19th.
We are hosting a Slot Pull and want to meet beforehand in Explorers, if you have any of your Patters...could you tell me on Sea Days IF there were things scheduled in Explorers early afternoon (about 1:00 or 1:30)
Also, were there 4 Formal nights? and if so, which nights did they do those.
Thanks so much!

We have done several Princess Hawaii cruises. One being the 28 day Hawaii/Tahiti and the others being the 15 day roundtrip out of LA. LOVED them all. One of those was on The Grand.
These cruises will give you a taste of Hawaii and then you can decide if you want to fly there and spend more time on the islands of your choice.
If you do the Polynesian Culture Center, it will take up most of your day. But, you could get up early and go into Waikiki for awhile before you go. They have a great Hop On Hop Off system. You go to the "hub" in Waikiki and choose which route you want to do. Some take you out as far as Sea Life Park and the North Shore. Well, worth it. Inexpensive and you get to enjoy the view instead of driving.
Oh Hilo, I'd suggest the Volcanoes and Akaka Falls tour. Usually with a stop at the Macadamia Nut Farm.
Maui - we always spend time in Lahaina just walking around, eating shave ice or gelato (or both) shopping, etc. Some nice little places to have lunch. Sometimes we take a whale watch or some kind of Catamaran excursion.
Once you disembark the tender, everything is right there. You can go ashore and find plenty to do. If it's your first time, a tour around the island would be perfect.
Lots of Hawaii activities on your Sea days. Lots of Aloha Spirit throughout the whole cruise. The late night in Oahu, usually will have local performers coming onboard and performing for the evening show. From kids to adults. Very enjoyable if you're back onboard.

So sorry for your loss
It is so nice to hear the GOOD things that Princess does for their passengers. Let's hear more of those :)

Reba,
Weather is So. Ca. changes quickly. Today it is pouring rain, tomorrow may be warm.
For our Christmas cruise on the Ruby, it rained when we boarded and was cool.Normally when this occurs we have cool weather the next day( a sea day) .That wasn't the case and our kids went to the pool in the afternoon.
Weather in all the ports was pleasant and not too hot. however in Cabo it was very windy. This was unusual for Cabo.We cruise to Mexico very often and always have had really nice weather. Never had rain.
Hi Sue!! :) Thanks you

Not doing a live but if anyone wants any questions answering I will try and accommodate.
I'm on a cruise so I may get distracted, but I'll do my best
Antsp
I'm interested in the weather. How was it coming out of LA? and could you let us know how the weather is in the ports when you report on them.
THANKS!

On the Grand in October all of our room service orders came with a slip to sign. There was a place on there to write in a tip. We just gave cash instead.

I'm not sure what all the problems are that people are having but we haven't had any issues with the card whatsoever; in fact, we have been receiving our double points for Princess charges, single points for all other charges and have recently redeemed points for credit toward our payment. Sorry for those that have had the issues.
Same here.
Applied got my receipt from them showing the OBC.
Not been on the cruise yet, so hopefully no problems using them.

I have done a transatlantic twice now, and returned on the Queen Mary 2. Yes, I would do it again. It is a great experience.
It's a great way to skip the long flights. The QM2 is really an experience and I highly recommend it. She is very elegant and she handles the Atlantic like no other.
Just remember it's more formal then most of the cruise lines. I enjoyed it the first time tremendously, as I was with my BF and we enjoyed dressing up and going out at night. My last trip, I went solo and didn't enjoy the dressing up part as much. But, as in the other Cruise Lines, if you're not in the mood for dressing up that night there are alternatives.

We were on the Grand last week, it was ordered two different times as the main course. One time it was in a regular Bowl, the last time someone ordered it , it came in the parmesan Bowl

We are on November 5. Which sailing you on
Thank you! We're on the November 12th one

Probably my favorite cruise! It was amazing.
But, yes... you have to like sea days.
and you should join your roll call and get involved - it really helps on all the sea days.
I plan on doing this cruise again next year or 2018. We are trying to get some of the same people and have a reunion type cruise.
Here's my review http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2134630
which also links you to the Shutterfly page I did for the cruise.

We will be trying at least one of the specialty restaurants on Divina in November. Anyone have a favorite or one you think we should try?
(Our first time on MSC)
Thanks,
Reba

Bill and Mary - so glad you're out on another adventure. Sounds like a great one, wish I was going with you LOL
we went to Nuku Hiva on our last South Pacific Cruise, because of a medical emergency, but I thought the island was something out of a movie it was so beautiful. Can't wait to hear about that particular stop. I will be following along as usual

It is a standard 192 SF cabin and will have a standard double couch, but it is not a convertible couch since it is not a quad cabin. EM
Thank you! :)

Mah Jongg sets on Crown Princess?
in Princess Cruises
Posted
I have not been on the Crown recently, but last year.
All of my cruises on Princess last year and this year, have had Mah Jongg sets. 2 or 3 sets.
Most of the time the Mah Jongg players on the Roll Call will coordinate bringing some.
