Terri,  thanks for this info.   We did a tour to from Toulon to Aix en Provence and Cassis on a previous cruise 10 years ago.

In the interim I booked with another company called Bonjour Provence.  The staff here moved over from Provence Connection which is no longer in operation - found the original company on CruiseCritic and in Tom's Port Guides.   I was able to put together a group of 6 and get a decent rate with Bonjour Provence and they have been very responsive to my emails.  So, I'm hoping for a good tour.

But I appreciate your reply, in case I need to book with them in Cannes.   I also have a private tour arranged there, but not sure I can find enough people to share the cost.

    Thanks again.

Marilyn - What type of price did you get with Bonjour Provence for the Aix-en-Provence tour?

  2. We are only in Koper for 9 hours on a cruise and would like transport to and from Lake Bled on Friday, August 28, 2020. The drive time is to be 3 hours roundtrip, so we could stay 4-4.5 hours. However, if we rent a car, that will take time. Does anyone have a good transport company that we could use? We are a party of 7 adults. Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

Would like to go to the castle, have a light lunch there, and ride the pletna boat to the island with the church.  We do not necessarily need a full blown tour, but basic transport, as we're trying to keep the costs down.

  3. We will be in Toulon on a cruise in early September.  My husband and I have been to France, but none of the rest of my family.  I thought about going to St Paul De Vence, as we loved it. It's such a picture perfect village and one with good representation of the small villages of France.  It is about 1.5 hours from Toulon.  (Worried if we dock in La Seyne Sur Mer it is even farther.)  (only there 8-4)  We're not a fan of the bigness of Marseille.  I've looked at Cassis, St Tropez, Canes, Le Castellet, but they don't seem to have the quaintness.  We've been to Aix-en-Provence, and out of all, this will seems the best alternative, but still have my heart set on St Paul De Vence.

    (1) Are there any other suggestions of villages that can compare to St Paul De Vence?

    (2) Is there a good reasonable vendor for a van if we decide on St. Paul De Vence?  Would only need transport to and from St Paul, not a full tour.

  4. I understand there is a monopoly in Monte Carlo, so there's only one taxi company.  Ubers are not allowed.  I'm there in June on a cruise and was wanting a reasonable taxi instead of getting Bus 121.  Does anyone happen to know an approximate taxi rate from Monte Carlo Port to Eze?

As I have said there nothing of interest in P de Soller it is the destination of the tram ride coming back on the train you can buy the tickets in P  de Soller and you will have no queuing for tickets.

The village of Soller is a better place to spend time in as there is more to see .

The tram winding its way through the middle of the village is a well worth picture opportunity.

Thanks so much for this.  I had missed that there was't much to do in Port de Soller.  So I'm putting Valledmossa back in and think I have a schedule.  Transport to Valldemossa, stay for 1 hour or a little longer.  Then continue to the Port de Soller and try to be dropped off 1/2 way around the bay.  Walk to far end and get the tram back to Soller.  Walk the small streets and then sit by the Cathedral for lunch.  2:00 pm train back to Palma.  Does this sound like it will work?    Any good recommendation for someone to provide transport?

  6. I had read that you need to be at the train station at least 1/2 hour early in order to get tickets.  So in Soller if we want to get the 2pm train, then we have to be at the station at 1:30pm.  Is that about right?

Also, 1/2 hour walk along the bay is about all the time needed there?  (Plus time to stop for coffee, pastry.)  I was afraid if we didn't have 1.5 hours we would be cutting ourselves short of the experience.

What is there in Soller?  I have looked at YouTube videos and it basically shows small back streets and the main square by the Cathedral.  Am I missing what else may be there?

    Roger,

I have put some thought into our day and think we'll take Valldemossa out of the equation.  At first I was thinking there wouldn't be enough to do in Soller and Port de Soller.

If we take a taxi first to Soller and go to the train station there, are we able to purchase the ticket from Soller to Palma that early.  We would be getting there around 8:30-8:45 and the time for the train back to Palma that we would like is 14 (2pm).

If we could do this, we may avoid the 20-30 minute wait closer to 2pm.  Then we could visit Soller, tram to Port de Soller, have lunch from 12-1:30 and then taxi to the train station in time for the departure.

So in order to make this plan work, buying the tickets early would be helpful.

you will find all you require .

You've been very helpful.  Another question:  I believe I saw pictures of a small village near the Port of Soller.  Would you happen to know of the name of the village and the best way to get there from the Port.

Get the bus back to Palma ( 211 bus from P de Soller) about 45  mins or Taxi 30mins.

Love all your information!!  I put Port De Soller to Palma in and the range is 28-56 Euro (33 in the middle).  Is that about right?

I'll look up the Train Station in Palma.  Is it close to the cruise port?  About what is the train fee?  Tram fee?  How much time on the train?  How much time on the tram?

  10. So researching a little more and taking this information to heart, I think we may do the train to Soller and the tram to the Port of Soller.  So what is the easiest/fastest way to get back to then possibly do a hop-on-hop-off bus to see Palma and the cathedral?  (I'm still thinking of your friend for the tour, Roger B, but like doing independent tours for flexibility.  Still thinking.)

It looks as if you have read through all my posts on :

My best advise is to rent a car as to complete all your wishes it  will be a pain on public transport  as you will be watching the clock all day, and it will be stress free renting a car.

If you are not up to driving yourself Try this :

I did read through your posts.  Great information!!!

I love the link to the private tours.  This would be perfect if it included a "ride on the wooden train," but their prices on the "shared" tours are very good.  (I think the train was why I was drawn to Soller.  Without that, Valldemossa may be fine on it's own.)

The tram was 20 - 30 minutes.  The other times I don't quite remember.  The train and bus both run on a schedule so they can be checked on line. Sorry.

Your pictures are beautiful!!!   If we are only able to do the train and tram OR Valldemossa, what do you think was the best?

  13. Yes...  I have been looking on TripAdvisor.  A lot of the operators I've sent inquires to are charging $1200-1500 for the four of us.  We were hoping $150-175 per person.  $600-800.  So I'm still searching for a boat tour.

Thanks for the dinner information being at 7.  We had though more like a snack/dinner.  Not a full fledge meal.  Are any of the scenic restaurants open (1) 11-12 for lunch or (2) 3-5 for late lunch?

Also, thanks for the reminder about stores closing from 1-3.  I remember a few years ago when we stayed there that was true, however, had forgotten about that.  (Does the same hold true in Palma De Mallorca, Spain, Barcelona and Portofino?

  14. We're in Naples 7-9 (a part of 4) and would like a private boat or small group boat tour with time spent in Sorrento, Amalfi and Positano.

Most trips start in Sorrento and are 8 hours, however, they include swimming.  Instead of swimming, we would love time in Sorrento to be included.  That way we could have dinner there and shop around Sorrento.

    Would LOVE SUGGESTIONS!!!
