We were  left waiting at a distant  Beach Club on St Maarten  for over an  hour....abt 10 of us,  It was a ship's excursion but some  flim flam was  going on between 2 drivers.  We had the  club  call the Port Agent.. and they did what was needed to send out another van..   we were told the ship would have waited but we made it back in time..

That's why we prefer ships excursions unless we can walk back on our own..that's a lesson learned when NO taxis were available from our location..  long walk but we did it!

And we take our passports with us..just in case!

I will do a private excursion with a tour operator who has the long-standing business with guarantees of getting you to the ship or providing alternate transportation. I will not do an excursion from Port with someone I know nothing about unless I am allowing myself an extra three or four hours.

Are you sure the switch was not on Dec 11, when Captain mat left instead of yesterday as you mentioned in your op

You are 100% correct. I was told by one of the staff members that the captain had  been switched that day, but that was not correct.

Celebrity is notorious for not updating ANY of their slot machines in their casinos, even after renovations, unlike Carnival who will completely renovate their casinos with new slot machines, table games, chairs, etc even on their oldest ships and even before touching any other part of the ship. They know the money invested in the casino is well returned.

This week they were putting a new row of machines on the reflection.

  4. Is it normal for a new captain to take over during the middle of a cruise? This is not a situation like captain Kate, coming back for the naming ceremony of the beyond. Yesterday, with only three days left of our cruise on the reflection we got a new Captain. And all my cruises I haven't had that experience before, but was wondering if that was something that's normal.

I'm not sure that custom is justification of anything on Celebrity.  There have been many changes in Celebrity policies over the last few years and "custom" has not been considered in any of those changes.  I haven't seen any reason that Celebrity cannot include an Elite event on Day one.   If Celebrity was really concerned about the workload on the bar staff, perhaps they should consider returning the bar staff staffing levels to the pre-Covid levels.

Can you find more workers for them? Visas are still an issue for many workers.

The bidding is in case someone cancels last minute.  Last year in October we had to cancel our royal suite a few weeks prior to boarding due to a cancer diagnosis. We had good insurance and got all our money back (minus the cost of the insurance).  Luckily I'm in remission and heading for our replacement RS cruise next weekend!  Someone got our RS last year by bidding with no apparent availability.

Glad you are doing well! Have a wonderful cruise.

The government ferries run from circular quay roughly every 30 minutes usually from wharf 4.

There are other private operators like Captain Cook and Manly fast ferries who visit Taronga but they're less regular and not direct.

Thank you for that information. For some reason the captain Cook and Manley fast ferries don't run on Mondays and Tuesdays so I'll stick with the government ferries.

Assuming you arriving at Circular Quay, I'd just take a regular ferry to the zoo. Just tap on and off with your credit  card.

Re entry to the zoo, I'm not sure if pre purchasing tickets is still necessary but have a look on the website.

Another tip, if you have time after the zoo, walk from Taronga wharf to Bradley's Head to get your million dollar tourist photos

Thank you. That is what I was asking, I didn't know if there was just a regular ferry that would go over to the zoo. Every time I looked it up I just came up with ferries that don't go on Monday and Tuesday. I didn't know there was just a regular That goes all the time. Does it run on a regular schedule?

  9. Our ship will be in Sydney on Monday and I would like to buy a combination Ferry ticket and zoo tickets. For some reason none of the ferry companies seem to be operating on Mondays or Tuesdays. Would I be able to take an Uber to the zoo or does someone have another idea? The ship has an excursion but it is really overpriced of course.

Thanks to this thread I have been able to make a rough plan for my own cruise visit to Wellington at the end of Nov. Cable car > Zealandia > Botanic gardens walk back to city > Museum to see the skeleton of Phar Lap if it is there (his hide is in my hometown Melbourne and I have seen his heart in Canberra)

I agree with you, planning pretty much the same DIY and really appreciate the help that people offer.

It has been a number of years since we sailed in the Caribbean, but that's what we're doing in March on the Constellation.  I know much has changed -- with time in general and post (post?) pandemic in particular.  I am sure I could read through a lot of posts and find the answer to this question, so please don't  complain on that score -- I've been looking, and mostly I'm seeing complaints about the way others are dressed (and complaints about the complainers needing to get a life).  So . . .

In MDR on a regular evening, are jeans and golf shirt okay for the men?  By "okay," I'm only asking about what generally blends in fairly well.  If jeans and golf shirt don't cut it, what upgrades would be okay?  On what used to be formal nights, are button downs, sport coat and khakis on target?

    Thank you.

Perfectly fine. My husband wears this every night.

Do many people dress up for formal night on Alaskan cruises?  We’re doing a 6 night land tour before embarking and I really want to fit everything into one suitcase.  I know we can always go to the Oceanview, but we enjoy the dining room.

No formal nights on Celebrity.  J

I think you could do all three comfortably. There is a shuttle from the top of the cable car to Zealandia or from the i-Site in Wakefield Street -  Zealandia Shuttle

Perhaps do the cable car to the top, take the shuttle to Zealandia, do a tour (suggest pre-purchase tickets to guarantee a seat on the shuttle) and then get dropped off back at the top of the cable car and then explore the gardens, making your way back down to the city. There is a cafe in the Lady Norwood Rose Garden, Picnic Cafe, where you could stop for lunch.

I plan to do this as you have laid out, would I be pressing my luck if I tried to do a visit to Te papa too?
