My wife's vin ordinare is Menage a Trois. She usually picks it up at Costco or Trader Joe's.

Ha!. This brings back an experience from a past Princess cruise. DW and I were sharing a table with another couple (who were new to us) at dinner. I'd say were all in our early-mid 60's. I selected a 'Menage a trois' red wine , and mentioned that I'd always wanted to try a menage a trois. The man made no comment at all, he just sat there, but the lady was trying very hard to not break out laughing. Obviously, the wife knew something her husband didn't. My DW knew what was going on, and had a herd time not laughing, too.

The wine was very nice, if I remember correctly.

  2. Caribill, I had read this review several years ago, and it's a great review. We have signed on for the same 6-day connoisseur followed by a southbound cruise to Vancouver for September of this year (2020). The last time I checked - a couple of months ago - none of your pictures showed up other than as blurred copies. Today I checked again and all the great photos are back. I don't know what you did to get them back, but thanks.

Thanks again for the the wonderful review.

UPDATE:  OK.  Here's the skinny.  I did get through to the Ocean Navigator help line (finally).  The rep said the app is made to be compatible with smart phones and not tablets.  She said it WILL work on iPad tablets, and Google tablets, but as far as they know, not any other brands of tablets.  Interesting that their fancy videos show just about everyone using tablets.

I don't know if what she said is true, but that's the info I got.  If it's anything like other companies' help lines there's a good chance I could call again and get an entirely different answer.  So there you have it, FWIW...

Thanks for the update. I did find the MedallionClass app via a Google (Chrome) search, and, like you said it returned a 'not compatible' message. Maybe they will update the app by mid-September - my next Medallion Class cruise.

I left it searching for a while, and finally did get a screen with apps showing, but still no MedallionClass.  Just OceanCompass and PlayOcean.  Called the Princess number for Ocean twice,  and it cut me off after five minutes both times.  It'll work out eventually, I figure.

I hope you can make it work. I am at the same point on my Kindle Fire HD 10. GooglePlay can only find the OceanCompass and the PlayOcean, both of which work - but no MedallionClass app is found.

We will be on our first Medallion cruise in January. I’m trying to decide on whether to get a beverage package. One of the advantages for me is just not having to fool with ordering every one of them and then keeping track of that on our bill. I’ve had more than one occasion where my bill has been wrong and so I check everything.

      So I have two questions:

First does medallion make it easier to order drinks if you do not have a package. Do I still have to sign receipts etc.? Or is it seamless and simple?

Second,  if you order drinks individually do they show the details of what you ordered on your bill? For instance do they say something like “bar purchase“ or something like “chocolate banana mocktail“?  😊

The details would help me keep track to see if our bill is right but then I also have to take time to do all that. Trying to decide how much the beverage package would actually be worth to me. Thanx!

To your second point - when you check your account, either online or on a printout, each purchase shows the point of purchase. Example would be like  "Crooner's  ...  $10.50". If there is a charge from a location you didn't visit , you can take the listing to the Passenger Service desk to get it removed.

  6. I have an inner-ear/balance issue that requires I use a walking stick for balance, even on steady dry land. I need it on board the ships even more-so due to the motion of the ship. I have used a single collapsible walking stick on board (and on excursions) for about 3 years. I have never had any crewmember question its use. I can think of no reason that using two sticks would be a problem. My stick has a removable rubber tip which I use at all times except when walking on hard ice surfaces.

    Enjoy your cruise(s).

Edit to mention that the use of the rubber tips is necessary for use on the ship's hard-surface, marble, etc. floors, as the hard point can easily slide on those surfaces.

Is Ocean Medallion on Emerald Princess?  In the News Center article on the Princess website, it says Emerald has it.  When I go to the ship descriptions on Princess, it says Emerald will get it in August 2020.  Unless I’m reading something wrong somewhere.

The Emerald Princess has the 'Medallion Net' unlimited, fast internet now, but the 'Medallion Class' cruises will not be implemented until August of 2020.

Once I install the new one and log in, can I get rid of Ocean Ready and Ocean play without losing any info?

I did the install today, everything seemed OK, so I deleted the old apps. Then using the new app I found the Ocean Play section would not work. I had to re-install the old Ocean Play app, and then it all worked OK from the main MedallionClass app.

This was on my Samsung Galaxy S10+. Now I have to get the Google Play app on my Kindle Fire 10 to find  the new app. It only finds OceanPlay and OceanCompass now.

    Thanks ....

Yes, you are correct. I found a link this morning, saying the Grand Princess is due to get the Medallion

Class on March 29, 2020. Here is the link:

    https://finance.yahoo.com/news/princess-cruises-continues-activation-medallionclass-090500135.html

It gives a list of 6 ships which will get the MedallionClass in 2020.

We will be on the Grand Princess..

According to the Princess website, the Grand Princess is not shown as getting the MedallionNet option in either 2019 or 2020. See link, below:

    https://www.princess.com/ships-and-experience/ocean-medallion/medallionnet/

    Sorry ☹️

Edit: The link only shows up to June 2020, but for your April cruise, the Grand should not have it. It may get it after June.

    Hi all ,

Just have a quick question about the Medallion. We have booked a cruise next year in April. We are sailing to Hawaii from San Francisco. I just watched the drydock video and it talked about the Medallion being ready for next year. As I have been looking at videos, I see the MedallionNet will be ready by December 20 2019. Does anyone know if this is just the fast internet or will it be the full meal deal of door opening, drink ordering, find out where your family /friends are on ship ?

    Thanks all !

What ship will you be cruising on?

Royal is in Grand Turk today... although I don't know if that was the intended port, or the substituted port.

We are on the Royal Princess in Grand Turk today, and it was on the original itinerary. Not a change due to the P. Cays fire.

  13. Today I was fumbling around their website to personalize our cruise, and I realized two things are missing that have been there before.

    1. The Sip N Sail promo beverage package.

    2. Our prepaid gratuities.

I'm not talking about the SNS promo ending. I mean it showed as part of our cruise (which it should), but now it does not.

I called Princess, who assured me that both of these items are part of our cruise package, despite the fact that they no longer show up where they should.

    Anyone else seeing this behavior?

Yes. In checking my B2B cruises for January today, I noticed that both cruises - sold with 'Free Gratuities' - now show as gratuities not paid on the cruise personalizer. I assume it is a 'glitch' that will be remedied, but I notified my TA for her help on clearing it up - it's nearly a $400 difference.

  14. Its actually Oct 7th. ;)

Whew, this thread had me worried (not really). We had booked this cruise when it was sold as a 7 day California Coastal cruise. Then it switched the itinerary to the NW Coastal. Immediately, the price jumped up, but we maintained the original pricing, so we were happy.

Glad to know that it was not changed to an October 8th date! :o:D:D

  15. We just finished a cruise on the Caribbean Princess and had a pretty large balcony on the Caribe deck. It was half covered, half exposed.

I know it's a different class, and smaller, so was curious about the balconies on the Island Princess. Do the ones on Caribe have a similar setup? Or on any deck?

    Thanks in advance

We have been on the Island Princess since the changes, and yes, the Caribe deck does have the larger balconies - as long as it is not in the 'bump-out' sections. Those have much smaller balconies.

    See: http://www.cruisedeckplans.com/Princess/odell/res76zxu/princessbalconies/id3.html

BTW, we have sailed the Island Princess three times - once before the changes, and twice after. Other than the outside promenade deck walking path not being a full circle of the ship, we did not have any other issues with the new layout.

  16. Be careful what you ask for.

Let's guess that the higher class would require a minimum of 500 cruise days and you would have to be at that new level for the laundry benefit.

Obviously many current elites would not be eligible for the new higher level and would no longer have the laundry benefit.

So which do you think most current elites would prefer?

    a) Having a laundry benefit with a three day turnaround or

    b) Having to wait until reaching 500 days to have the laundry benefit again.

If you're counting votes, I go for option "a)"
