  1. Boy, I wish I could answer that question. I've had similar questions about things like

    1. Why on some message threads when you press the "quote" button does the system refuse to bring up the message you are trying to quote? I've tried as many as 4 times to quote a message and it just keeps coming up with nothing being brought forward from the message I'm trying to refer to.

    2. Why do some message threads have a button on the first page that says "go to first unread message" and some don't? This has happened to me a fair number of times even when I know that I have read that thread before!

I've even left messages in the "help" area and never gotten a reply. Finally gave up and figured my computer is just haunted. :(

    Tom

Tom, the multi-quote works for me, but it took some trial-and error to figure it out.

When I want to multi-quote, I go to the first post I want to quote, and click the 'double-quote' button one time. The button will change colors.

Then go to the next post you want to quote, and do the same. (Note that if you click the double-quote button again, it will toggle it off and on.)

Then go to the large "quote" button on the bottom left of the page, and it will open your reply box, with the quotes in place.

Hope that's clear, and helps you get the double quote to work.

  2. I hear what all you guys are saying but I'm telling you from personal experience (I just got off her) that she is not ruined. We never felt crowded, we never waiting in line for a table in the Horizon Court, we found seats every time we went to the theater (they scheduled On the Bayou for 3 show the night it played). If you have a cruise scheduled on the Island, please don't be afraid. We had a FANTASTIC time...honestly it was pretty near perfect!!!

I agree! We were on the re-positioning cruise through the canal in April/early May and had no issues. We did not feel any more crowded than when on the grand/super grand ships. The only time we had waiting lines was at 5:15, before the traditional MDR opened. If we showed up at about 5:20 or so the wait was minimal. We didn't do Anytime Dining, so that was likely different. (Edit - I take that back - we did have to wait in line to get into the Captain's Circle P/E/S party - but that is normally expected) We never had a problem finding table space in the Horizon court - maybe we were before or after the rush-times, but it was never an issue.

For the shows - if we showed up about 15 minutes early, there was always seating.

And the crew were always pleasant and helpful.

I'd have no problem sailing the Island again (2 cruises pre-rebuild, 1 after)

  3. I am looking for information on the 'secret door' that gets you out to the bow of the ship during Panama Canal sailings.

I think they are on both the Island and Coral Princess but I don't know what deck.

    Anyone have this information?

    TIA!

Yes. The doors are all the way forward on both Baja and Caribe decks. Ignore the sign (if there is one) saying crew only, and go on through. If the ship is underway, the doors may not be unlocked, but through the canal they were unlocked last month (on the Island Princess), as well as several years ago.

BTW, it doesn't get you to the actual bow, but it does put you on the deck to overlook the bow. The bow is always closed to passengers, AFAIK

    Enjoy your canal cruise.

  4. I always start out dinner with Fettuccini Alfredo with grilled chicken breast cut up on top. I’m not a fancy food eater, don’t care for some of the items on the menu so I’ve been known to ask for the children’s menu if I don’t see something on the regular menu. I haven’t tried any of the Curtis Stone dishes yet. About the only one that appeals to me is the Pork Belly. We stay out of the Horizon court as much as possible. Don’t be embarrassed to ask for the children’s menu, after all we are all just big kids. With all that said I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad meal on any of the Princess ships I’ve been on.

Yes, we are all just big, old kids :)

Does anybody have a link to the children's menus? I might want to try it on my next cruise - this Saturday :)

  5. Canal locks closing behind us, leaning over our balcony, gives the view of D726 curved balcony. Then the special tug that keeps us in line...because of all the "extra space" on either side of the ship once inside the canal!

Wish I had learned this while writing the review...but better than never!

Don't worry. You are doing great. How did you get these pictures to be the size they are? Usually, that type of picture is much smaller. Great job!

We will be doing the FLL to Vancouver passage in 9 days, so your review is very helpful.

    Thanks.

  6. so if I bring more than the 2 allowed bottles I will be charged a $15 corkage fee per bottle. If I take them into the dining room do they charge an additional corkage fee?

No. If you pay the corkage fee at embarkation, the bottles will be stamped, and they can consumed anywhere on the ship - dining rooms, bars, etc. without an additional corkage fee.

The one bottle each that is allowed without the corkage fee can not be consumed other than in your cabin - or if you carry it in a glass to a dining room or bar, etc.

  7. It's usually shows online as 6 PM, but according to several posts, it may be changed when you get onboard to 5:30

    Not Happy !!

On our upcoming Island Princess cruise (April 23), we are confirmed and shown on the personalizer as dining at 5:45

If I try to make a new booking, it shows 5:15 and 5:45 for early dining, but both are waitlisted.

  8. We had the silver card and got wine up to $45/bottle. Might be opposite on other ships. I have my statement from the last cruise on Ruby. We bought ours on the Ruby for both cruises. Also, if you go to Happy Hour in the Wheelhouse, you can buy 1 glass of wine and get 1 for $1. We each bought 2 glasses of wine and they brought us the bottle. We bought 2 more each and we asked that the bottle not be opened and we took it back to our room.

Here is a quote from Astro Flyer's post on January 19, 2016:

The details on the wine packages are:

Note: A 15% gratuity is added to all package prices (like any other bar purchase).

Silver Package (wines up to $29 per bottle list price)

    7 bottles -- $161 (average of $23 per bottle)

    10 bottles -- $210 (average of $21 per bottle)

    12 bottles -- $240 (average of $20 per bottle)

Gold Package (wines up to $45 per bottle list price)

    7 bottles -- $217 (average of $31 per bottle)

    10 bottles -- $290 (average of $29 per bottle)

    12 bottles -- $336 (average of $28 per bottle)

You get a punch card which can be used at any of the dining locations.

You may choose any wine on on the regular wine menu. If you want to buy a wine that costs more than what the package covers, you just pay the difference. For example, if you have a Gold package and buy a wine that costs $46, the charge for $46 will appear on your stateroom account, followed by a $45 credit.

This also what we have experienced for the last 4 or 5 cruises on Princess. The 'gold' package is the one that gets wines up to $45.

  9. I got off the Emerald on Monday... but I lost an entire hour of cruise time due to daylight savings time. Do you think Princess will reimburse me for that lost hour? I paid for 4 full days of a cruise... NOT 3 days and 23 hours.

If they do, be sure to save the check to use for the cruise where you gain an hour :D

  10. But if other travelers dont see it by using drop down boxes, the might start another one.

Hmmm not sure why mine doesn't show up

It's there. Go to the second page (on my computer) of roll calls under Caribbean Princess to find it.

  11. Regarding MUTS at night: Uh, no, free popcorn isn't "passed around" (at least not on the 18 Princess cruises we have taken). You go to the ice cream stand and pick it up. And it isn't salted or seasoned in any way, so be sure to bring some salt packets from somewhere else on the ship.

Hmm.. we've only watched a few evening MUTS shows, but they did bring around popcorn, at least some of the times. Maybe it is 'ship dependent'?

  12. Not quite off topic:

On one cruise we had Traditional Dining and arranged a table for four - for the two of us. If we met a couple during the cruise that we enjoyed, we invited them to join us. On the few occasions that we did not have anyone in particular to join us, we just asked the headwaiter or Maitre 'd to offer the other two seats to anyone who might like to share a table for four with us.

We met many new friends that way.

  13. Norris, I'm still here! Another great job on the review and photos, but are you so serious all the time?

I'm looking forward to the comparison of X and Princess. Everything on X looked pretty good - until you got to the MDR dinner. Since we mostly do the MDR, with only one or two specialty dinners, the MDR dinners are very important to us.

    Thanks, again,

    Howard

  14. Thanks for the very nice review. I love all of the pictures, both in the thread, and on the remote site. I've only looked at the Sandy Ego album so far, but will check all the others also.

We look forward to enjoying the Crown Princess in a Canada/New England cruise in fall 2017. We've been on the Emerald and Ruby, so the ship should feel like home to us.

Thanks again - and great photography!

  15. I booked our Alaska cruise quite awhile ago under a special Princess was running with free gratuities and $50 OBC per passenger (inside cabin). Under the booking it had always shown the gratuities having been prepaid and the OBC. But I just looked today and both were gone. What happened? Is it something with their website or did they take it away from us?

I think it's probably the website issues. We pre-paid our gratuities back on min-October, and they shortly showed up as paid in the Personalizer. Then, about 2 weeks ago or so the pre-paid gratuities bar would not open to show them as paid. Also, in the Travel Summary, the notice of the the pre-paid gratuities disappeared.

Just this week the gratuities pre-payment again showed in the Personalizer and the Travel Summary. Hopefully, yours should come back soon also, but if it doesn't, do as the others say and call Princess (or your TA).

  16. Essentially they are like the perfect French baguette, same flavour and texture, but baked as small rolls. I have to be very strict with myself to only have one per night. :D Except on escargot nights when I need an extra one to mop up the yummy garlic butter. :D

I agree with the above! The hard rolls are superb.

Another item - one I never thought I would care for - was the eggplant parmesan. What? Eggplant?

DW had me try some of hers, and I had it the next two nights as an appetizer! (special order!):)

"Try it Mikey. You might like it"

    I did :D
