  1. We were in our early thirties in 1988 and enjoyed reading then and now and we both still like watching college games on TV 🙂
  2. I think self-entertainment on crossings is a holdover from the ocean liners like QE2. Westbound to NYC in this photo is Deck Steward Sean busy bringing deck chair robes to his guests who reserved deck chairs in advance. Chairs were $7 for the 5 night crossing and morning beef bouillon and afternoon tea with sandwiches and cake were served to us by Sean while we read in between naps under those wonderful chair blankets called robes.
  3. Yes, I forgot this happened to us twice on Panorama and once on the Magic all in 2023. Once my wife asked what brought them by our cabin and was told it was because we're platinum. We have no idea if this is true but it's what we were told. All 3 times we were receiving service as requested and made no complaints, so who knows?
  4. That's a good point. I think if it were bad enough, like them entering when you are away and your safe is open, I would walk to the other side of the ship and ask any other steward who the floor supervisor is. 🙂
  5. The food trades refer to these businesses as Fast Casual Restaurants. Panera Bread is in the same category. Here is the top 25 list for this year from the industry trade Toast: https://pos.toasttab.com/blog/on-the-line/top-fast-casual-restaurants
  6. Speak with the Housekeeping Supervisor who will follow up with Stewart would be my suggestion.
  7. I read here a few years ago that each deck with guest cabins has a housekeeping floor supervisor. The person was in a similar situation to yours and they said after they had a brief, polite chat explaining when they wanted their cabin serviced there were no more issues. I haven't had to do this myself but I remember the information.
  8. Sounds familiar. For a couple of years Carnival had both a midnight and 2am buffet. The 2am buffet was set up adjacent to the casino and drew in the gamblers. 🙂
  9. Unfortunately it may be smoke when you reach Halifax.
  10. They should schedule it once a day at 2:30pm-4:30pm in the lido restaurant. The place is dead then and it might even liven up the joint at those hours 😉
  11. I agree. In 2014 we first noticed it wasn't listed in the Daily Events and guest services showed us it had been moved to Hungry for More. Fewer guests go now but the service is usually quick, but I do have to set an alarm for 2:45pm or she may give me an elbow in my ribs.
  12. I'm bad at understanding heavy foreign accents. Getting to a quiet place on the ships to hear the captain's noon report on sea days doesn't do me any good. I can understand the numbers, e.g. depth of ocean and temperatures they announce but not much else. The captain's noon report is a tradition on sea days that many Carnival captains continue today just as Carnival still offers afternoon tea. I'm thinking afternoon tea isn't in the realm of the possible in Gregland. You can walk into tea holding a Moretti and no one will bat an eye and you can sit by yourself, skip the tea and try some of the best desserts served on Carnival that are included in your cruise fare.
  13. One question and I'll move on, did you notice if more than a few people went to the outside decks to pause and reflect as Venezia passed the location of the sinking?
  14. For you Greg and others who may be interested the best history of the night in 1912 was written by Walter Lord and the 1954 movie was based on his book which Mr. Lord wrote after personally interviewing over 50 survivors of the sinking between 1949-1951. For most, their memory was still clear and the details they shared are described in the book. $1.99 on Amazon and worthwhile reading for anyone interested. I interviewed Mr. Lord in 1992 in his Park Avenue co-op for the 80th anniversary of the sinking.
  15. Thanks, sounds like a leisurely crossing anyway so not much reduction in speed was needed. The service speed for Vista Class is: 24 knots (44 km/h) maximum Service speed 22 knots (41 km/h)
  16. The crew pay the same internet rates as guests so it's still expensive.
  17. Is that a new location for a satellite tower? I don't recall one in the Serenity on other Vista Class ships. Weird.
  18. At our age Matlock is called Maalox, same for Mannix.
