  1. Every flight has many, many flight numbers and the boards at the airport will either show them all or rotate around them (probably depends on the airport) the UA i one is the one that matters to you as that is what you booked and paid for. HAL asked for our flight details too - but for some reason wouldn't even accept the AC flight I happen to have leaving. So in the end I just put no flight in. There is no point - the cruise line doesn't care about what happens to you before you show up at the port or once you leave the port at the end. Unless you are doing transfers with them - the couldn't care less how you get home
  2. I grew up with face clothes as we call them (UK usage I suspect) - and I use one at home - though my partner doesn't and we're similar ages. I only rarely wear makeup and if I do I remove it using a cleanser and pads. I don't use the facecloth for that . I just like having them and miss them if they aren't around- I now carry a microfibre one - its tiny dries instantly and takes no space. I've only ever cleaned my face with water in the shower if I have no make up on - which is 99% of the time
  3. Fair enough re ship movement - its just a rough comparative thing to pick up rapid unexpected weight gain
  4. lol I was expecting to have to translate pounds - but Kgs work better!
  5. Couple of questions re the Zaandam gym equipment. Does the gym have free weights available? Is there a weight measuring scale? (This is not for over-eating in the buffet, more for tracking a drug side effect).
  6. Go onto booking dot com - put in your dates and price range - book a hotel which probably won't require pre-payment, I certainly wouldn't let Cunard take a cut of it!
  7. Nah sorry - the US may lead the world in lots of stuff- but the Brits are all over weird crips (chip) flavours - like seriously weird - Guiness flavoured anyone? 19 Uniquely British Crisp Flavours to Try - I Heart Britain
  8. We had an hilarious time on Cunard last October on a fixed table with 2 other UK couples. One was very "well bred" , she was actually an official at the Queen's local church at Windsor, he was ex senior RAF. The other couple were friends travelling together one of whom was a Glaswegian pub owner who had sold in 2019 (!) . They nothing in common, but found us colonials amusing so we bonded very well. We must admit that we did tend to start each evening with got a new PM yet ? There were several on a 20 day cruise! Is talking politics with Americans? I figured its so divisive that it would be a no go area?
  9. Oh wow - what an amazing experience that would be - his were the first guide books I ever bought back in the 70s - before I was old enough to travel independently. I have an ebook version of the first one - describes where to get weed in varous SE Asian cities and says avoid Singapore (strongly anti-long hair on men and drugs at the time). I'd pay to have a conversatsion with him. Off to research Chad now!
  10. I'm a bacon addict (real bacon not the streaky crunchy stuffs Americans love) and I'm a sugar addict - but I gotta say the concept of candied bacon has zero appeal to me. I may try it for the cultural experience.
  11. Question on the room service menu here Breakfast-Room-Service-Standard.pdf (rogerjett-photography.com) it mentions milk as a beverage after tea coffee etc. Is that literally a glass of milk? I hate creamers but I like milk in my tea/ coffee - would ordering a glass of milk and black tea/coffee solve my issue?
  12. I never pay bills to large corps in advance. If you want to budget it why not setup a designated saving account - and pay that. You still have your money and you may get some interest. Things happen and getting money back is harder than not giving it in the first place
  13. Wow - that is very bad. As I travel with my partner I don't care about emergency contact numbers - but as a solo I'd be more concerned about them
  14. Its a glicth around that because our emergency contact are in Ireland and New Zealand - HAL site wouldn't take the right numbers - so I used a made up US number and the site was happy. So am I don't really want HAL phoning relatives in what they think is an emergency
  15. We're hiring a car and driving to Gros Morne - about 1.5 hours each way - but world heritage and not to be missed. The centre of town has car rental and its very close ot the dock
  16. I completely agree - I've never gone to one as Cunard didn't even provide a venue last year. But my up coming HAL cruise does have one organized it didnt' occur to me that there would be HAL officers or staff there.
  17. My issue hasn't been the same. The cute little auberge I've booked direct in Quebec refuse to answer my reasonable question (in French) about which floor the room is on (they have no lift). If I booked on booking dot com then I'd get a reply within 24 hours via their messaging system because the site monitors responses to questions. But as I said its a backup - you book that early keep and eye on other deals and recommendations and book those later if you want and cancel your original booking. I also book there in Europe because I get better terms - either cheaper, or no money up front, or cancellable up until 24 hours prior with no penalty, or all of those. Booking direct doesn't get you that often.
  18. Tracy's Rolling Yarn shop on that popular social media site the book of faces
  19. Why not - they have computers there too? We printed boarding passes for SF too - but they didn't look at them.
  20. In Barcelona I just presented my passport - I had the boarding pass on my phone but they didn't care - your ID is all they need
  21. So if something goes wrong in Europe - what a train is late, the ship is late you have to reschedule a hotel for one night maybe? Frankly your agent will probably be asleep on on a Sunday (timezones). Research and book a flight AMS-Copenhagen - you'll get one for very little money - add on luggage as required. Book 3 nights in Amsterdam and 3 nights in Copenhagen- use booking dot com and choose cancellable bookings - that way if something else comes up you've lost nothing - you shouldn't have to pay anything in advance. That's it that's all you have to do. Really you can tie yourself in knots organizing tours, restaraunts etc - but you don't need to. Both cities have more than enough to fill 3 days with.
  22. We are doing a cruise which includes Sydney NS next month. Someone in Nova Scotia has a mobile yarn shop which is on the wharf when the ships come - what a brilliant way to monetize your yarn stash problem!
  23. No we're on the Zaandam leaving 29 July! Similar ports as I considered both itineraries before booking! Have a great trip!
  24. Yeah that's my concern - we are there in August and there is another huge ship in port the same day!
  25. It's really hard to find you have to go to Western Europe and then go back to Europe and choose Northern Europe Northern Europe & Baltic Sea - Cruise Critic Community We haven't been yet but I've looked at Google street view and cant' see why we need a tour either - we're going to walk around on our own
