  1. Am I completely off track here? I think the bigger problem for Grandeur, sailing Thursday is that's roughly when Florence is supposed to be hitting the east coast. Especially if she makes landfall around the Outer Banks - isn't that close enough to the mouth of the bay to make things ugly for Grandeur? No way of sailing around that one?

  2. Okay, got a scenario for you. 2 weeks ago, I booked a Bungalow for November... or at least I THOUGHT I did. Was randomly playing with my reservation, and noticed I have a OV Deluxe Cabana instead. A couple of things come to mind. I booked the Bungalow because I wanted the bungalow. We like being on that side of the island, like the SHALLOW water when the tide goes out. If I've read things correctly, some of the main differences are: Bungalow has a small menu for lunch, which is delivered to you, whereas the Cabanas have an upgraded buffett; Restrooms are convenient to Bungalows, not so much for the Cabanas? Is there a shuttle to the Cabanas? Which has the closest bar?

Since their website is crap, I had to call to book, and did so during a sale... I'm guessing they wouldn't honor the sale price if I tried to switch to a Bungalow? That would mean I only paid $10 more for a Cabana.

Please help me see the bright side to a Cabana. I know, I sound spoiled, but DD really wanted the Bungalow, and I'm trying to decide if it's worth trying to talk her into giving a Cabana a try.

  3. With as many repeat destination cruises as we've been on, we still haven't gotten to this point. We take it as a challenge to find something new to do each time. Haven't been disappointed yet. Of course, we are also exploring various itineraries, to switch it up a little. Looking forward to my stop in St Maarten in December, we've been there close to a dozen times. Never gets old.

  4. How does using the fitness center showers work? Can anyone use them, at any time?

DD might be bringing a friend on a cruise that I have to bail on. He's 6' 8", and I'm already having nightmares about him not fitting anywhere. Fortunately they will have a JS, so there's a little more space, but I imagine he'll have to sleep diagonally on the bed. Picturing him trying to shower makes me giggle.

  5. I know I always see complaints about the website, but I wanted to ask - are these common problems people are having?

Tried to book a bungalow yesterday, kept getting "page cannot be displayed". First concern was, maybe that's the systems way of saying, they're no longer available. Called, and booked over the phone.

Now, today, I'm trying to make final payment ahead of tomorrow's deadline. I get a connection error. Again, will have to call.

For such a large corporation, I find it unacceptable that their website is as useless as it is.

  6. Just to add on to a resurrected thread... how often do you think people actually recover items left behind on the ship?

On my recent sailing, I came across a Fitbit sitting on a couch in the Schooner. Based on the glasses and bottles, a group had really fun last night of sailing. Picked it up, with the intention of turning it in to Customer Service. With the chaos of disembarking, completely forgot. When I got home and realized this, I was so upset with myself. Fortunately Fitbit sent me a label to return it to them so they could send it to the registered owner. Hope it finds its way home.

  7. Have to tell you about the struggle we had getting reservations linked. I called. My brother in law called. Both of us asked to be linked. For some reason RCL couldn't get this straight. They kept telling me my BIL had to call to confirm the change. Never mind that he had called multiple times. It was NOT pretty. Simple requests shouldn't be this difficult.

  8. Oh, holiday sailing. Just caught this. REALLY watch the Cruise Planner pricing. You may be very unhappy with onboard pricing.

Also, is she in your cabin or in her own cabin? If she is in your cabin, ALL adults must purchase the deluxe beverage package if one does.

And is she D+ on her own points?

Fortunately, (or un, depending on how you look at it) I'm already on file with RCL. I don't have to purchase a package. Can't drink alcohol, sodas, juice or coffee.

She will be D+ on her own points.

Hate the uncertainty of onboard pricing.

  9. I'm afraid that you no longer get this - it was very short lived.

You do however get access to the Diamond Lounge with complimentary drinks for 3 1/2hr every night ( much better than the 2 hr window on X (IMHO). You can also drink at any bar during that same time window off the same drinks menu.

But do D+ still get 30% off? DD is waffling about whether she wants one or not, and we will be D+ by the time of our holiday sailing. If we get that discount, no point in booking it in advance?

  10. Sorry to highjack your thread, but I was just going to post a new message, that kind of falls in line with this one.

DD and I are going to Cococay in November. Trying to decide between a Deluxe Cabana and a Bungalow. We've had a Bungalow before and like it. Because it was on the beach where there's no water at low tide, it seemed a bit quieter.

Where are the Cabanas located? We've only ever had a Cabana in Labadee.

  11. This is news to me. We sail on Grandeur often and we've always been welcome in the Concierge Lounge. We were on over July 4th and will be on again over Columbus Day. When is this new change happening ?

I was told it was supposed to be effective on the sailing I was on, but they've temporarily delayed it.

  12. No she is diamond as well , my inquiry was more to if she wanted a 4th drink during the happy hour time , if she could technically have one of mine even though I have the drink package

I would say, technically, NO, but clearly it happens all the time. Depending on the ship, couldn't she just go to the diamond lounge and get as many as she wants, if she's also Diamond?

  13. We're D+ on RCI and just cruised Celebrity for the first time.....we were given the level of Elite...however the included perks (Aqua class category) of comp internet and drink package was a very nice addition.

So happy to see this message. Overall, how did the perks on Celebrity compare to RCL? We become D+ in November, and we're looking at giving Celebrity a try.

  14. Just wait. I can see them eventually dealing with this problem by renaming all of the Concierge Lounges to Suite Lounges, then renaming all of the Diamond Lounges as Concierge Lounges. That way they will say they didn't kick the Diamonds out since that perk only applies to ships with a dedicated DL

I would be okay with this. We become D+ on our next sailing (November), and just found out yesterday that D+ won’t be allowed in the CL for our December cruise, on Grandeur. Seems like there won’t really be much difference between D and D+. So much for the benefits of loyalty.

  15. sorry, I know this has been asked a million times, but I’m sitting poolside on the grandeur, doing this on my phone (so a pain in the butt to search).-

Before I go talk to someone onboard, I wanted to hear the truth from people here.

Is there any benefit to booking onboard these days?
