  1. Yes, if the second person shares the cabin with the diamond member. Normal Reservation. Just inform the waiter or maitre d'.
  2. I will travel from Waterloo to Southampton with three pieces of luggage. Will a first class ticket be the better option rather than standard and provide more storage room? I wonder because I have just watched a you tube video showing a tiny first class compartement (eigth seats) basically without any kind of storage room.
  3. As a German I confirm: Totally true. Also during recent cruises/vacations: a museum in France, a sandwich in Italy, a specific souvenier in Spain, ice cream in the Netherlands, just to name a few.
  4. This is what you agreed to when you signed the contract. Cabin numbers are not guaranteed, minimum type/category is. All is according to contract, nothing to complain about. Nevertheless your long standing TA might be able to assist. A polite request on your behalfe might (!) move you.
  5. Yes, stepchildren, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends of your children, you name it: When ever a minor travels without one or both of the parents, you need to have the paper work in order.
  6. You will fly from Rome ROM to Millinocket, Maine MLT ? Interesting. Just in case you want to go Malta MLA: Please tell us which airline flies first class on this route or indeed any short haul European route?
  7. Could you provide some more information about where to find the elevator and wherevit does take one? On the web I only see an elevator to the Alcazabar but none to the Gibralfaro.
  8. Revive the Italian roots and traditions. Better dress code, classical music. Do not americanize. Transfer the best (lMHO ) from the European to the American sailings and vice versa, e.g. the room service breakfast from the US to Europe, the more Italian lunch and dinner menu from Europe to the US.
  9. If one can really do what you imply i.e. judge if an issue would impact one or not based on a review, it is a helpful review IMHO. I agree there are quite a number of useless reviews around, often with headlines like "worst cruise ever" "sucks" " I am done", but otherwise I often find reviews (not only here but about other cruiselines, hotels, airlines) helpful even if I do not agree. Maybe somebody complains heavily about something I would just like. Or somebody praises a line for something I would just hate. Both'd be helpful.
  10. Thank you all! Currently I hold two options for hotels, one close to Kings Cross station, one close to Paddington station.
  11. Everybody who reads the terms and conditions (or cruise critic) knows that cabin numbers are not guaranteed. Its part of the contract everybody agrees to.
  12. How difficult it is to travel with baggage on the London underground and other public transportation? Are there lifts at all the stations? Difficult to manage entrances and exits? I will have two large suitcases and a piece of hand luggage, arriving at LCY and staying a couple of days in London before going to Southampton. I have used British trains before without problem.
  13. Ones inside there are people who can direct you where to go and when to be there.
  14. It was a bag as I have gotten already a couple of times
  15. My best advice would be to inform MSC not only on board but at least two weeks prior to the cruise about your special need, as they request. For real emergencies they assign staff to assist individuals who are really unable to make their way.
  16. Two weeks ago, yes, we got all you mentioned. Well, not Champagne but something sparkling, macarons, free meal, a gift and a nice party with talkative officers. Priority emarkation and debarkation, too.
  17. You can choose between the towers on the nativity and the passion side. The nativuty facade is the only completed duri g Gaudi's lifetime. From the towers on the passion you have a view of most of the historic Barcelona (and the port). It is intereting to see eg. the mosaics close by. Currently some ongoing work on the main towers can br watched. Yet, if you cannot get tickets, don't worry: The church itself is breathtaking.
  18. FYI: Two qeeks ago ataxi straight fro the ship to the Sagrada Familia was € 20. From the Ramblas to the ship € 13 or16Much more time effizient than taking the shuttle from the port and than hop on hop off bus
  19. There is nothing spectacular to see like in Rome but you certainly may spend a couple of nice hours there. Around the port there are the Fort Michelangelo, fountains and monuments. The cathedrale from 1600 something is worth a visit just like a few other churches. A small archeological museum waits for you. You may stroll the streets and enjoy the Italian way of life in an rather untouristy, unspoiled way, maybe vist the market. Explore the many squares, the remains of the walls, archways and portals. A taxi drive away but still within the city limits are the Terme Taurin, the remains of Roman baths. Even a small beach is right next to the port.
  20. So easy? Well, looks like they just exchanged their 11 days paid plus 3 free days cruise in a 14 days cruise with a 14 days price minus discount.
  21. According to same reports here, the price differs depending on the price one originally paid.
  22. MSC has none of these, as you probably know by now. But it by far the most family friendly line I know. The love for children is deeply inrooted in MSC's Italian heritage. Especially in Europe many multigenerational familes choose MSC for its family friendly atmosphere. The best advise was already given: Do not go with the expectation that it will be like RCCL or any other. It is different - and most enjoyable with its own characteristics.
  23. Unless it is a recent change, you will get them. Eggs Benedict have been available on all my cruises.
