  1. Melody: Have a RELAXING cruise you two! The snow hasn't been the big event everyone was hoping for today. It's a wet cement kind of snow because we're right on the rain/snow temp boundary. Only supposed to be up to maybe 5" today, then nothing until Monday. Cynthia - I understand doldrums. Cooking up something sounds good. I might do some soup tonight. Boss is gone on a week's long vacation. I asked him to buy some cookie dough 3 days before he left. He didn't. Going to have some disappointed kids tonight. I'll have to stop off at the store tonight and buy it myself. I can't do peanut butter ones (what I have left) because there are kids in house today and don't want to mess with peanut allergies. OOTD: black jeans and my new Deer Valley hockey sweater hoodie. My depression present to myself - big, comfy, and warm. I've had a bunch of compliments on it today. Not really something I'm supposed to wear to work, but it's on brand for the resort and I'm here alone so I don't care 😼 I wore in my Patagonia rain shell as it would protect me from wet snow today.
  2. Yeah, I keep feeling like this should be my last season. But, I've already had some of the owners tell me they don't want me to go away. At least I have until next November to decide. My original boss does know me well. She knows what I can do. She knows I work Fridays and Saturdays alone - there must be something she likes if I'm alone on the busiest nights! I'm just trying to keep my head down and my mouth shut. I asked if we could get one more Master key to use as we only have one now and we have to share. Last year, we each had one. He looked at me and said "I'll have to think about it, I don't want others to get access to them." *****??? I got my stuff for my new great-grand nephew, Jett. I got 2 locally-made kids's books and the stuffed animals to go with them: Gilbert the Moose and Stetson, Street Dog of Park City. I always wanted to get them for gifts! I also got a stuffed Deer Valley Avalanche Dog and a Deer Valley Tshirt that he'll grow into for the Summer, A woman I worked with at the St, Regis wrote Stetson. We used to have a "Stetson Night" where we had a scruffy dog who looked just like Stetson come up to the hotel and interact with the kids and Jeannine would read from the book. And, to keep his 3 "sister" dogs from getting too jealous, I bought them a nice bag of dog bones from Rocky Mountain Chocolate. No chocolate involved so they are OK for them, OOTD: jeans, Mountain Hardware hoodie shirt, red Patagonia. It was in the 40s, but the wind was brutal. A "Pineapple Express" atmospheric river storm is coming tonight. Supposed to dump a bunch of snow on us,
  3. Lois - good news on the numbers, indeed! Some of these new meds are working very well with lowering levels. Welcome to the Sisterhood of the Stuck Finger!! I had been feeling a little down in the dumps the past few days. Work is kind of bring me down. The new boss is on a major cleaning/getting rid of stuff spree. He's redoing all our storage cages. He's inventing new procedures, getting rid of old ones. Now, it's his prerogative to do it, but, some of the things he's doing have been in place for at least 5 years and have been passed down from boss to boss. It's also the first time I've been made to actually feel "old". He's having my co-worker do all sorts of stuff and they talk all the time. She's in her 50s so she not the usual 20-something I've worked with. But, I'm kind of left sitting at the desk and not knowing everything that's happening. My "old, old" boss who is now the company GM here has been sending me emails to do reservations, check on owners, some things that have usually been the domain of the lodge boss. I don't mind because I know how to do it all and apparently she trusts me. He doesn't really like it - he'll send emails asking to be notified. I know our maintenance guy isn't happy. He's talked to our old boss, too. More owners are coming in again in the next few weeks so I'll try to ignore things and just do what I've always done for my owners. Sorry for the rant. I'll just sit at the desk and collect my pay - I'll need it for my shoulder surgery!!! Day off. I need to go out and do some shopping for a gift for my week-old great grand nephew! He arrived a month early, but he's all good and healthy. He's already getting sweet kisses from his "sisters" - the 3 dogs. OOTD: jeans, longsleeve T. It's warm today - sunny and up to 45 today.
  4. Melody you got the "rain" that we didn't get!! Maybe a half inch showed up. And, supposedly no more until after the 1st. My snowplow guy is making money off of me so far!! I was invited to "have a drink" at one of the owners place tonight as I was walking the floors, doing my end of the day hall checks. I almost started crying as 1)I was still working and 2) I had to drive home. Darn my ethics... And, this was the owner who gave that $700+ bottle of wine do the MD. I wonder what I could have had... OOTD: black jeans, Athleta cammo Tshirt and my tan-ish heather cashmere zip up hoodie.
  5. I did the most wonderful and relaxing barge trip with CroisiEurope last Summer. It was a fully-chartered barge with Adventure Women. 11 of us crazy old women. It was the Anne Marie, from Arles to Sete. The crew was so personable, yet professional. The food was fantastic. Sundowner drinks, drinkable wine. The barge has bikes you could borrow to go out and about when we were docked. Our excursions may be a little different from their usual since Adventure Women try to do excursions with a women-centric pitch (women-owned ranch in Carmague, women-run winery, women-owned oyster harvesting). One day we docked next to a park and our Cruise Director took us out and taught us how to play Pentaque, complete with the required drinking of Pastis! It was a hoot! I'd do it again if I wanted a laid-back trip.
  6. I'm with you. Price doesn't always determine how a wine will taste. As much as I love wine, I don't think I'd appreciate it - I'd be too worried that I wouldn't like and I would have wasted it. I did have a glass of a very good $250 from Piedmont from another owner. Be sure you give enough time to go to the Cite du Vin in Bordeaux! I thought it was extremely good with all the education and interactive exhibits. I spent the good part of an afternoon in there.
  7. Home at last! Here's my white high tops with the new laces. My owner who has the Tuscan villa had on a nice pair of white Adidas from Gucci. It had the red, green, yellow as the stripes. I told him he needed these laces:
  8. You also say your "days" fall into the fee schedule. Are these separate days and not one after the other? If you are in Venice not just for a day you don't pay.
  9. I'd switch out the leggings for some Woolx things. Get a pair of Stella leggings and a pair of the Ellie pants. They can both go outdoors and out for dinner. And, they don't stink up!!! I took my Stellas on my Alaska trip last April (last week of) and wore them every day daytime. As much as I like Tencel, I'm morphing my "travel" Tshirts to Woolx, too. Good in hot weather, good in cold weather. And, again, they don't stink!
  10. Happy early Birthday Melody! Nice little bottle of Bordeaux. Speaking of Bordeaux: one of my owners brought down a bottle of Bordeaux for me to give to another owner as a "thank you" for looking at the xrays of his daughter's shoulder and doing some diagnostics on it (he's one of the top orthos in the US). I know the owner has some nice bottles up in his unit - I did a Vivino of it to see. Holy C$$P! It lists for $732!!!!! I was afraid to pick it up to give to the Dr. I will say that is probably close to how much is is for an office visit to him 🙀 Totally bored here yesterday and today and will be again tomorrow. Not that many people in house. No people here for Sundance. My co-worker and I were trying to come with things to do. At the end, we were looking at properties near where our one owner has their villa in Tuscany. I shouldn't have done that - now I really want to go back again SOOOOON. Not this summer - I have that saved for surgery... OOTD: My white flowered hoodie, blue jeans, my Taos white leather high tops. I put new laces on them - white with white was just tooooo bland. I'll post a photo tonight - it's on my iPhone and I'm on the computer at work (don't tell).
  11. Melody - depending on which shoulder is the bum one, he may not like a cane. Just that pressure of using the cane could be painful. Just something to think about. I put lidocaine creme on my shoulder every night. It helps me some - I'm a big mover when I sleep I don't wake up with pain when I move as much. A nice thing happened at work last night. I got a $20 from guests who aren't even mine (their condo is managed by another company). I did do some things for them during their stay that I didn't have to do, but they were such nice people. My thinking is that, if you are staying in "my" lodge, I'll help if I can, even if you are not one of my guests. It's just easier to do something than to tell them they have to call their property management company for something. I got invited to a party at one of my owners tonight. If I didn't have to drive home, I would have gone up and had an Aperol Spritz. Darn. OOTD: brown & white striped heavy Tshirt and my black jeans.
  12. I think I'm just getting sensitive to young new bosses who want to carve their way instead of blending in. I've had this problem before 😸 I should be thinking "as long as the owners like him" since he needs to serve them. I've built up a great relationship with the owners and vendors over the past years, I'm old, and I don't like change... I meant to tell you all: if you are in the market for a pair of travel pants, RipSkirt Hawaii has put out a pair of travel pants. OOTD: Since it's the first day of Sundance Film Festival, black shirt and faded black jeans. We jokingly call people attending "PIBs" - People in Black. I have an appointment with my hairstylist in town, so I want to look "appropriate" 😉
  13. If you want to grab a sandwich or charcuterie board with beer or wine, La Prosiutteria is a nice casual spot. Or, head to Mercato Centrale upstairs and let everyone pick from the various food stalls. Those 2 are my usual go-to's in Florence.
  14. Purple - I'm so sorry about the pup. It is so hard to see the end of life happening for a beloved pet. Love to all of you. Snow, snow, snow again today. Big flakes. Roads are awful. I'm not going anywhere. Thankfully, it's my "Saturday" and I have nothing planned. Maybe listen to some Jose Andres podcasts, catch up on some series. $85 in tips came my way yesterday. It was my share of tips from the past 2 week's guests. We also divided up the alcohol we took from rooms. I ended up with 3 Peroni beers, 3 Stella Artois beers, 1 Dogfish beer. It was the best of the lot - tons of Miller Lite and White Claw, yuck. Getting mixed signals from the new boss. He was a little peeved at me yesterday because I was dealing with our coffee delivery guy - he told me "that's my job as manager" when I've been doing this for 3 years. OK. I won't look at what we need and tell them again. He told me last Friday that I am only to serve 1 red and 1 white wine per night at Wine & Cheese. Sorry, but that much wine doesn't go far with 10+ people. I did let the owners there know that I was told I had to cut back and if they want more to bring it up to him. He's new and hasn't been a hotel manager type before, only a restaurant manager. He has to learn, I guess. OOTD: Woolx leggings and a hoodie. Just cozying up today.
  15. I sold my recliner when I got divorced. I'll have to buy a new one in the Spring. Glad the walker is giving him some stability. Boring day at work. No arrivals, no departures. Everyone was out skiing in the 24" of new snow. Now, I'm sitting at the FD, looking out at the snow-covered road. It's windy and the snow has definitely picked up again. I will be sooooo happy when Monday evening comes and the storms pass by for at least a day! OOTD: My gray Pact sweatshirt dress. Perfect for today. Black Woolx leggings underneath. My one coral plaid scarf that I picked up in Florence a few years ago. And for fun, some lace-top socks to stick out from the tops of my grey wool booties!!
  16. Oh dear, poor Les. Give him my love. Does he have a recliner chair? That's going a be a best friend to him after his shoulder surgery! I had a friend recommend one to me before my first surgery years ago. I loved that chair! Lived in it for weeks. Trying to sleep with shoulder surgery is brutal - the recliner makes it almost tolerable. We're not as cold as CO, but we've got a Winter Storm Warning still in effect until Monday at 5pm. Yesterday was brutal - the wind was howling and causing whiteouts. Not fun skiing for my owners and guests. Not fun driving home last night. 2WD cars slipping & sliding down the Mine Rd, wind blowing snow over the roads and couldn't see. Took 45 minutes for my 10 mi drive last night - usually 15-20. Tonight was a little better with no winds, but the roads weren't very plowed when I went down. Only 30 minutes to get home tonight. At least my driveway is getting plowed!! OOTD: My black flowered hoodie (I love that thing!), my black jeans and a new little scarf/bandana to keep my neck covered and a little warm when the door opens in the lobby and lets all that cold air in.
  17. Tell Les I'm sorry to hear about the diagnosis. We can be "healing buddies" this summer. The sling is a good idea - it will let it rest. OOTD: Heading to the pharmacy to pick up my Valtrex refill and get some food for the work week. It's actually a break in the snow today, but a little chilly (20f right now). So, Woolx leggings, long sleeve T, my tall Sorels (because I love 'em with leggings), Patagonia jacket and my knit bear toque.
  18. Hi Lois! I thought of you and the others in FL when I saw reports of the storms and tornados in the state. I think we'e all in for another winter of weird weather. I had snow squalls yesterday evening and overnight. The wind was howling pretty good and at times I couldn't see across to the houses 100yds away. First time this Winter that I needed my driveway plowed - he got here half an hour ago. More snow supposed to come the rest of the week. Skiers and riders will be happy. Just happy that I'm not in PA with my niece - she got totally dumped on! The snow was up over the bottom of her car and she had to dig it out to get to work!! Thank goodness I'm feeling a little better today. But, I'm glad that I have today and tomorrow off to get totally better. OOTD: rerun of yesterday. Why not? I'm not going anywhere 😸
  19. It was the Hotel de Tourny. Great location I thought. Easy walk everywhere. In a quiet neighborhood. There is a Paul down the street to grab your cafe e croissant 🙂 Yes, they had single rooms. It actually felt rather airy. I booked it via their website.
  20. I'll vouch for Da Cesare in Rome. It's outside of the Centro Storico but extremely easy to get to. It's at the end of the #8 tram line at Casaletto. It is a casual place and it's outside looks belie the yumminess inside. The appetizer of fried gnocchi in cacio e pepe is to die for!
  21. That is what do OTC - 4x200mg or usually 3x200mg. Yeah, that snow did miss us. The local radio station was getting everyone pumped up for 10" of snow. Our side of the Wasatch got maybe 1". The Cottonwoods side did get 10". That's where my one owner was stuck for 4 hours getting home. We're supposed to get 4" today, 10" tomorrow and 7" Friday. I'm sooooo happy I have my snowplow guy this time! I'm off work yesterday and today. Woke up yesterday with what felt like the start of a cold. Went to work, but my co-worker sent me home. We had no work to do and she didn't want me sitting there sick (and getting her sick). Today I added a sore throat to it. Nothing at work, so I stayed home. I'm off Wed and Thu so hopefully I can get rid of whatever this crud is. Saw my opthalmologist yesterday. Right eye was looking good, no spots on the back. The left has a little something new so she wants me to keep on the Valtrex and come back in 4 months to get another photo. May is getting busy with appointments! OOTD: light red Vuori Performance Joggers, faded yellow Laguna Sport hoodie sweatshirt. About as comfy as I can be.
  22. I'm pretty sure my biceps tendon is involved - there's more than just shoulder bone and/or rotator cuff/labrum pain this time. Is he OK with NSAIDs like Advil? That's my drug of choice right now. I pop 3 every night and maybe 4 if it is hurting a lot after work. I figured 3 is OK since you can buy double-strength Advil up in Canada and that would be 2 tablets = 4 US. I suck it up the rest of the day. I have been told I have an extremely high pain tolerance. Like my shattered leg was an annoyance and I flew back from Florence overnighting at CDG and 2 more connections with just Advil. No money today, but I did get a nice bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon, Paraduxx, from a departing guest as a tip. I'll take it!! Vivino has it at $41, so that's more that what I would spend. If you don't have the Vivino app, give it a try! You take a photo of the bottle label and it tells you all sorts of stuff, ratings, taste, price. My OOTD was: black jeans, white w/ pink stripes short sleeve T and the alpaca short cardigan I picked up at the Real Housewives consignment store. Brought my Patagonia down shell and my knitted bear toque that I bought at the Fortress of the Bear in Sitka in case it snowed. It only spit for a little bit and stopped before I left tonight.
  23. Melody - so bummed about Les! That had to be one scary episode. Here, I was ready to tell him to "suck it up" with the shoulder until after the cruise - if I can deal with a blown shoulder for over a year, he could do a month. Keep him safe and warm until that cruise! I got another $100 from an owner today! He was stuck over the hill at another ski area last night and the road down that canyon was a parking lot. What usually takes about an hour took him 4 hours!!! He called and asked if I'd feed his sweet Lab, Maggie, and take her on a little "bladder relief" walk. I love walking our owner dogs so I didn't mind at all. So, my holiday tips are up to $650!!! The most ever. However, our guest renters are leaving no tips at all and mediocre beer in the fridges. OOTD: black jeans and my tan oversize sweatshirt with the cool tiger face on it. A light green plaid scarf that I got in Florence kept my neck warm.
