  1. The woman who initiated this post has asked for help from the cruise critic community. She should not be disrespected, or told that the man might be laughing at her. You have no information to arrive at such a suggestion. Where is your sense of compassion for another human being ? Please apologize to the lady because your comments were unkind.

Just because you, or the OP, does not like an answer, does not mean that the answer was disrespecting her, or that the responders lack compassion.

  2.

I'm trying to get more details about this so that he can ask the appropriate person if he wants. We haven't discussed it yet, but I only hear from him once a week or so, and I want to be proactive. He might not be aware of this possibility.

If he doesn't know the details already, he knows whom to ask on board. You don't need to find out for him. If he hasn't asked, that says something about how interested (or not) he is in pursuing the possibility.

    I agree with SuiteTraveler.

  3. There was a couple with an infant daughter in her little ruffle bottomed swimsuit in the pool on our cruise last week and she was the center of attention. Lots of people stopping and babbling baby talk to her.

Wish my chubby thigh rolls were that cute! :)

Yuck. Ruffle-bottomed swimsuit = cute. Diaper in pool = health hazard.

  4. Aren't you contradicting yourself a bit here  Looks to me like you just acknowledged that there was a choice

Anyways, I've said it before :

For those who understand, no explanation is needed.

For those who do not understand, no explanation is possible.

Wow, condescending wording AND a condescending icon! Completely unnecessary, especially considering that Aquahound is correct and you are not.

  5. Its worse than you think. Last year we were on a flight from Honolulu back to Seattle. A guy in a Hawaiian floral shirt and flip flops gets on the plane with a dog. No service dog vest or any indication it was a service dog. The guy takes a seat and the dog, who was well behaved, curled up on the floor next to him. After we took off the stewardess was talking to the guy about the dog and the guy openly said its not a service dog. He says "I never told anyone he was a service dog. I just didnt want to go to Seattle without him so I brought him with me and no one ever asked. Not TSA, not Delta, not anyone."

I wonder if he was so breezy about getting the dog back to Hawaii? They're pretty strict in their import requirements and if the animal hasn't had certain treatments and doesn't have proper documentation, off to rabies quarantine it goes.

  6. My friend works for FWP. As of tonight they have caputured 5 gators but they are not relocating them. Sad for the gators that had nothing to do with this. Its not a relocation its an extermination but it has to be done to appease the public and collect potential evidence.

Correct, they didn't relocate them. They killed them and slit them open looking for remains.

I'm from the upper Midwest and I know about alligators. Just because they are from Nebraska doesn't mean they didn't know anything about them. But they probably thought that because they were at Disney, they were safe. I feel awful for the parents and sister and mostly for little Lane. What a horrifying way to die.

  7. Some of these posts remind me of the White Sox player who used to bring his son to the clubhouse for every practice and every game and even took the kid on road trips with the team, starting when the boy was about eight. The kid even had his own uniform and locker.

The player retired when some of his teammates complained. Later he said that he could understand the concerns about kids in clubhouses, but that they didn't apply to HIS son, because he is "exceptional". No, no, he really isn't.

There are some places where kids don't belong. No matter how exceptional their parents think they are.

  8. HAL should not allow that particular venue to be reserved, especially during a scenery cruise.

As for me, I not only think the group thing (allowing them to shut other cruisers out of public rooms) is outrageous and have long advocated for a cruise "bill of rights" which would inform anyone booking (or booked) on a cruise with large groups...to be informed and given the option to cancel or reschedule.

Cruisers make the reasonable assumption (based on information provided by the cruise lines) that public rooms are indeed public and will generally be available to everyone.

Agree with both of you. Groups should not be allowed to reserve prime public spaces like the Crow's Nest at ANY time, let alone on an Alaska cruise. If they need an entire room, let them use a conference room or theater when it's not in use or something. It's absolutely ridiculous that we "regular" cruisers pay our fares and end up with the possibility of not being able to use prime public areas because we're not part of a group, AND that the cruise lines won't tell us about large groups!

  9. And with a very few exceptions, you leave the US to take a cruise.

And with a very few exceptions, if you leave from a US port, you disembark at a US port, and you don't take your luggage through customs in the other countries you visit. Your meds stay in your cabin.

  10. Oh, I'm sorry they've moved the parking lot! Watching people trying to get to their cars might have been as fun as watching pier runners!

While you are in Ste.-Mere Eglise, be sure to visit the museum. It is outstanding. I've been there twice and will go again the next time I am in Normandy. If you can't get into the church for the mass, be sure to go in afterward...the stained glass is spectacular.

Also just FYI...when I was there two years ago, there were no bureaux de change between Cherbourg and Ouistreham. Get your euros ahead of time!

  11. When I was in Paris in 1975 (I was 12), my family was wandering around looking for a place to eat. We stumbled on a restaurant with a line outside, so we went there. L'Entrecote. Set menu of salad and steak frites with an AMAZING sauce. Forty-one years later and we all still remember that meal. Went back in 1992 and it was still a memorable meal!

I was in New York a few months ago and my friend and I were so excited to discover that one had opened there. We ate there two nights out of five.

It IS a chain, and it might be kind of touristy now (I don't know). There are several in Paris, Le Relais de L'Entrecote, in fact the one we ate at, just off the Champs-Elysees, appears to be there still.'

Edited to add: I had the creme brulee for dessert one night in NYC, and it was fine...but the next time I had the vacherin du relais and it was outstanding!

  12. Are any tours offered through the ship? I would be tempted to take one of those so that if you are late getting back, the ship will wait. The invasion beach area is about 60 miles long and LeHavre itself is about 50 miles east of the easternmost beach, so there is a lot of driving involved. And once you are off the main highways, the roads are narrow and winding, so it takes awhile to get anywhere.

  13. Selling these cruises without final approval is just like professional sports teams selling playoff tickets before they've actually made the playoffs. Fans have to pay for them...and if the team doesn't make it, they get a refund.

No, it really isn't "just" like that. If the team doesn't make the playoffs, they give full refunds. No handling fees, and in most cases, the teams don't even process the credit cards or cash the checks.

  14. Oh goody - a quiz. ;) Boy some of you just can't let it go. :D Here is a hint - if YOU don't know there any number of places where you can find out -

So this will now justspecific illness loop back around about how no one should carry antibiotics when they travel, blah blah blah - we heard it the first time and we still disagree.

Many of us have chronic conditions (that means repeatedly occurring - a bonus quiz point)

Well, considering that was my first post on this thread I'm not sure why you felt the need to be rude to me, but then again, you are so defensive I'm not really surprised. I see you have a very, very, VERY basic understanding of how antibiotics work. My understanding and education on this topic are far more in depth than yours, but thanks for clarifying that you do, in fact, have a rudimentary understanding of the field. Enjoy your cruise.
