  1. Key West and Nassau are walkable if you are able-bodied enough. Most people walk around both. Been to Nassau plenty and have usually walked but last trip since my mother's surgery, a Taxi was better to get to Margaritaville were we did a day pass. It's a nice walk but would have been too much for her. Taxi less than $10. We did walk the few blocks of shops right in front the port. In Key West we rented a golf cart and it was a fun time. Parking was hard so usually one of us stayed in the cart and the other ran into whatever shop we were looking for. We did find parking near the big Walgreens and walked a few blocks there. Freeport, there is not much at the port but what there is all walkable. If you want to go outside the port area you need a taxi or an excursion. The port, as mentioned, is in their industrial area and you can't walk out the gate anywhere. Last trip there we stayed at the port and shopped and ate/drank at some of the stands.
  2. I like this topic! I Don't Miss: The old muster drill. Set dining times only. Smoke everywhere. Twice a room cleaning. (I found it unnecessary and I'm a germaphobe so I don't like people in and out my space like that.) Hairy Chest Contest. I Miss: Midnight Buffet (some of the best food Carnival ever made) Hot dogs/cookies/sandwiches as late night snacks. Hasbro Games Samples in the bathroom. Snacks at the Gold/Diamond/Platinum Party (now that I'm Platinum I can actually go to the party again. Lol) More items at Tea Time and not as rushed. Better deals at the gift shops/better items. There used to be so many cool trinkets and bags etc and now almost nothing. Libraries The captain having dinner in the dining room with special guests. FRUIT PUNCH! I Love: The hub app (sometimes) New bigger ships with more activities. Guys Burgers The more relaxed dining. I still dress up for formal night but only by choice not because I HAVE to. Movies Under The Stars. Less paperwork to fill out at check in and no more declaration forms. Facial recognition Holes in the sign card already there. No fun times (I know it's back but I actually was okay with it being gone. I like tracking activities on the Hub App and they can do real time changes)
  3. I have gotten my dinner to go in the dining room several times. Never been a problem. You can't just walk in and order. They still seat you at a table and you just inform your wait staff that you would like to take your meal to go. Never had a problem except balancing plates lol. But if allergies are the main problem, you should check in with the Menu Mates team. They can accommodate whatever you need. Also the deli will make grilled cheese. You have to ask of course since it's not on the menu.
  4. I get what you're asking. I would say Carnival or Royal for main cruiselines as starters. I started I think a 4 ot 5 day out of FL. However with Margaritaville in the picture it's KIND of a starter cruise but from what I've seen it's doesn't work like most cruiselines.
  5. There's no casino credit for Gold. Platinum/Diamond only.
  6. As long as its certified by the state you should be good for check in purposes. You may run into additional questions by Homeland but you should be fine.
  7. The Orange Gauva Passion says cocktail. Orange says Orange Juice. Apple Says Apple Juice.
  8. It's really not that serious. It's labeled as Orange Juice on the machines. 🙄
  9. There is OJ in the drink stations on the lido in the morning. I love that Guava, Passion Orange juice so I've always just had that so I can't attest to how it tastes. I have had OJ in the dining room for brunch that is good and I've never been asked to purchase fresh squeezed. Not sure if that's new in recent weeks but I was just on a cruise in January. The only juice for pay I know of is the mixed fresh pressed juice.
  10. I never said they didn't work 7 days a week. I said their time off is different and they DO get time off. They don't work 24/7. You can't compare living on a cruisehip staff to those who go home to their house in that way and I never did but the amount of work that has to be done is the same. I used to do housekeeping when I was 17 so yes I very much know how much work they do and being that I live in New Orleans, pretty much everyone in my either family has worked in the hotel industry at some point. If it's on land or not, the job is hard . This entire conversation is ridiculous and unnecessary. The OP is wrong, very wrong in their calculations and is spending incorrect information about the staff. That is my entire point.
  11. Neither does the housekeeping on the cruiseline. Their time off is different but they do get time off. Also I know several people who DO work 7 days a week in hotels. Same staffing issues on sea as on land.
  12. How much do you tip your Housekeeper at a hotel? Most do more than 35 rooms a day. 🤷🏾‍♀️ Yall really on here thinking the staff of these cruise lines are being paid and treated like its a sweatshop. It's not that serious to be trying to calculate down to the penny how much they are paid.
  13. I used to do check-in for Royal and I'll be 100% honest never looked at a gender on a BC. As long as the name matched who was in front of me and in the system, you were good to me. Especially since alot of names are gender neutral and we are taught not to assume. I think you will be fine but if you have proof of the records update you submitted might help if it doesn't arrive in time.
  14. The kids clubs have a wide range of activities. Arts and crafts, video games, movies, board games, etc. They close at certain hours and you have to check with the ship if they are feeding the kids. Sometimes the clubs close at normal meal times and sometimes they take the kids in a group. Usually the smaller kids of course. Shorter cruises bring out more party people but it just honestly depends on the people on your ship. No one can honestly tell you before hand. There are always quiet spots to be found on board however. Formal night is whatever you want it to be. Dress up fancy or dress down. You will see different styles from everyone. It was never that everyone HAD to dress up anyway. YTD is my favorite and most convenient option since it's been around. You can eat whenever you want, just have to check in on the app and wait for a table. I've never done Cheers as in not a big drinker. I can tell you it does not work on Carnivals private island. You will have to determine how much you would drink to see if the value is worth it to you. I prefer to pay per drink as I only drink 1-2 a day or less. As for the food onboard you are going to get opinions like the previous person commented. It subject to YOUR likes. Ignore the people who spill foolishness about cut backs and quality. I've almost never had a bad meal on any ship and if I did , it was fixed quickly. Carnival is not waterdown or the bottom of the barrel of cruiselines. We all know this but negative people would rather make you run of Carnival then allow you to form your own opinions.
  15. All the times I've been to Cozumel I've never seen LA Mission. How far is it from the pier? We usually go to Pancho's if we aren't going to the beach.
  16. I don't think it was as big of a deal as you are thinking it was. (Not knocking your experience, just going from MY experience) Had it been a passenger safety issue, TRUST, you would know and been directed on what to do. The ship will be completely silent and announcements will be blasted in all the rooms and halls. The ones you heard were really only specifically for crew first and foremost. They would never involve passengers unless absolutely necessary.
  17. No USBs by the bed. There's a lamp pulled into the left side on the pics that's a standard plug. I just used the desk plug with an extension. Temperature was normal. Not hot not freezing either.
  18. This exactly the room I just stayed in. I'm checking now to see if I have pictures. I can say the toilet was a issue as because it's next to the laundry, you can hear the water at random times. Also there is a crew storage right next between the laundry and the room and they sometimes come and go very early. Editing to say beside those couple issues, I loved the room and location. Easy to get everywhere, forward or backwards. I used the stairs to go up and down from the Promenade deck.
  19. It counts as non-alcoholic wine. Yes you can carry it on as your allowed wine.
  20. I don't think they do. My mom and aunt went on a cruise in December and had seaday brunch every single day available and every single time, without request, they were sent to a group table and had to go back to the stand to change it. Same hosts everytime and they never fixed it in the system that they didn't want a group table. Same thing happened to them twice for dinner as well. Even my own experience, my last cruise was a solo, got dinner tables to myself but brunch I was seated at a long table that one guy was seated at by himself as well and then two couples joined the table. None of us wanted to be at the group table. It's actually my biggest grief with Carnival because it genuinely doesn't make since. If I didn't request to sit with others, how about ask me at the hostess stand before we walk to the table if a group one is okay? Saves everyone time. Half the time the hostess starts walking to the table before I can even ask what type of table it is myself.
  21. If she's a local and using the LA Wallet app, they MAY allow her to board since it's an accepted form of ID in Louisiana but make sure she is prepared to not sail if they don't accept it. Best to carry on the luggage just in case.
  22. You can't order cocktails or pitchers but you can order soda and limited beer via room service( I think Miller Lite and one other is listed) either on the phone or through the Hub App.
  23. The only difference between the two is location and time. One is used for YTD and one is used for set dining times, early or late. You don't get to choose the dining room on the ship. You pick set or your time dining and the system assigns the appropriate dining room.
