  1. What do you mean that "the payment policy has changed"?

    What was it?

    What is it now?

    Thank you.

You used to be able to reserve your shore excursions ahead of time but pay later onboard.

Now if you pre-reserve you have to either pay by credit card or by OBC.

  2. Is anyone purchasing Princess excursions before the cruise since the payment policy has changed? We are sailing in April and it appears all excursions are pretty much open.

We have lots of OBC for our April TA, so we have booked a couple of Princess shore excursions and used our OBC to pay for them.

  3. Did one as a team building exercise with co-workers a few weeks ago. We were “trapped inside a pyramid” and had to find clues and solve puzzles to escape. Sad to say we were not successful [emoji853]and we “perished” but it was a heck of a lot of fun!

  4. We have booked a Med cruise the Sept for 21 days. The cost of the cruise is $14000 CDN, Princess quoted $1390 CDN for cancellation insurance. I contacted my Visa card (Gold) they cover $3000CDN leaving $11000 to insure. My VISA card insurance added to remainder which cost $541 CDN. A gold card also covers your medical coverage for 21 day for those under 65 who book using you card. If you do not have a similar card it is a good investment ($125cdn) per year. Be an educated consumer and research your options. Travel agents in most cases do not inform you that your credit card may cover your insurance needs.

Yes, credit card insurance can work, but you also need to investigate things like; are they first payer? Do they subrogate? Do they offer direct pay? Do they offer/permit their coverage to be topped up? Is there a lifetime limit? Sometimes the coverage looks good until you do a deeper dive.

  5. I don't think you're going to have as much extra time as you think you are, but I don't think you're crazy. If it were me, I would take an Uber to the Harbor Shops where Total Wine is located, and pick up anything else I needed at the Publix there. Maybe have a late breakfast, then Uber to the port.

I agree. Joe’s Café in the same mall as Total Wine and Publix offers a good “diner style” breakfast. Someone could sit there with your bags while the other shops for what you need, then book another Uber to get to the port.

  6. True, but I'll trade the relatively small amount of passenger industry given to Canada by the PVSA for the larger amount of industry that was taken away from Canada by the Jones Act, which was specifically enacted to restrict trade to Alaska from the Canadian ports that were less expensive at the time.

    Fair point.

  7. The bottles of limited choices are 375 ml and not 750 ml. You have the prices correct however and they will sell you some mixers.

If you follow the trail of the posts, you’ll see I’m replying to a post about Carnival, and their bottles are 750 ml and 1 litre for $75 to $90. However you are correct - Princess’ offerings are 375 ml and approx $18 to $35.

  8. You don't get any alcohol purchased in the Carnival Fun Shop until the end of the cruise. It's been years since you were able to bring a bottle purchased in the fun shop to your cabin for onboard consumption. They do offer bottles (mostly 1 liter) in their "In-Stateroom Beverages" ordering system, but they are extremely overpriced.

“The Fun Shop” is what Carnival calls their online shop for ordering onboard items pre-cruise - similar what you get through Princess Cruise Personalizer. So yes, you can order 750 ml bottles of alcohol and have them delivered to your stateroom. They run $75 to $90 each I believe.

  9. Well, I know I'm in the minority here on CC, but the tens of thousands of US citizens, whose livelihoods, not just their vacations, depend on the PVSA feel differently than you about it "going away".

Not just US citizens. If it wasn’t for the PVSA, the Alaska cruise industry wouldn’t have had any need to use Vancouver as an embarkation point. Our tourism and other support industries wouldn’t be as robust as they are.

  10. We had a bump out balcony Caribe deck port side on the Coral last May and absolutely loved it.. It is somewhat larger with spectacular views. It was the 1st in a line of bumpouts so no visual obstructions looking forward.

Was it C622? We had that one going through the Panama Canal a few years ago and we had fantastic views the whole way. Had the Balcony breakfast delivered and ate it for lunch, too. A memorable day all round.

  11. Another advantage I've found is the ability to try mixed drinks new to you. If you don't like it, don't drink it and try something else. I really had some fun on one cruise working my way through the martini list. Not at one sitting or even over a single day though.

Agreed. I also appreciated it when I could replace my warm, watered-down drink with a fresh one without worrying about extra cost.

  12. Louisiana weather is highly unpredictable -- we had 3 inches of snow on 12/8 and it was 70 degrees on 12/11. We sailed on the Dream this past Thanksgiving, and it was warm enough to be outside by the second day. You just really never know what you are going to get!

So true! I just got off the Dream today and the weather in NOLA pre-cruise was cold, windy and wet. Today in NOLA it’s still wet, but it’s about 70 degrees. All last week on the cruise, even the first sea day, it was warm (75 - 80 degrees) and sunny. Sat out by the aft pool every day. [emoji41]

  13. First I will say that Tandoor is one thing that I have loved on Carnival cruises,

Im not sure, but think Dream does not have Guyy Burrger yet, so maybe that is why they are removing Tandoor to make room for Guy and the grease bombs

    :

Dream already has Guys Burgers and the Blue Iguana Cantina as well as the pizzeria. I’m not sure what would replace Tandoor but it would be a shame if they did. Had some terrific meals there last week.

  14. We booked the Dream for a third time because we love the tandoor grill only to learn that is about to be removed from service. That said we also were excited to try the new pig and anchor barbecue

Not sure when you were on the Dream but I just got off today and Tandoor was open every day for lunch. Excellent food!

  15. We did this a couple of years ago. We were a family of 6 and we used a private van from Karmel Shuttle from The Carousel Inn in Anaheim to the port in San Pedro. It was cost effective and quite quick (well, as quick as traffic can be in L.A.) I believe they also do a shared shuttle but that would take longer, as they stop at multiple hotels. You can book them direct or through Expedia I believe.

  16. Several years ago I booked a balcony guarantee and received a cabin assignment almost right away. Then, a few months later received an upgrade to a higher category balcony cabin. Then after final payment, about one month prior to departure, I received another upgrade to a mini-suite! So, never say never. [emoji4]

  17. Sorry to post as I imagine the answers to this question have been posted previously.

Sailed with Carnival three times and always had FTTF experience. ...not sure when we booked this previously, but for our next cruise on the Magic April 7th 2018 I have just looked to book and it is SOLD OUT [emoji34]

Own fault but the stupid question of the day us this....

Do they ever make additional FTTF places available? ...If so how, when & where?

    THANK YOU

    Frank

I had the same thing happen for my December cruise. As suggested here on CC I kept checking, and lo and behold 3 days ago, it opened up. I snagged one really quick! So it does happen, just keep looking.

  18. No, you would not be able to make a claim against the insurance in addition to receiving a full refund from Carnival. The intent of cancellation insurance is to make you whole, not gave you come out ahead.

With the insurance I purchase, if Carnival cancels my cruise and refunds my cruise fare, I can get my insurance premium refunded too
