  1. I'm going to respectfully disagree with the previous poster. I have found the MDR meals to be of the quality that I have come to expect from a ship of this size. The buffet can be somewhat repetitious, but they do vary it by theme (Greek, Italian etc.)

I did have a bad experience with a room service breakfast, but have enjoyed all the alternate dining. Just finished eating in Sushi on 5 for the second time this cruise. Qsine is quite innovative if a bit overwhelming in the quantity.

The service has been good to excellent, with special kudos to Andrea in Cafe al Bacio, Komang in the Martini Bar, Agnelo the sommelier in the MDR, Darwin in Sushi on 5 and our room steward, Lalaine.

As I mentioned previously there are obvious areas where she's showing her age, but she's still a classy lady.

  2. No one answered your question. I have no idea how some folks get their discounts (comped from the casino???? I spend thousands there...how does that work?) However, ask the person on board, who is trying to entice you to reserve a specialty, if there are any discounts? Especially if you are willing to go the first night. We were last offered 50% off at Qsine. Obviously this only works if you are willing to wait and reserve on board.

I shared my experience in post #51.

  3. And, his post #244 shows morning offerings, which even includes doughnuts!

Yes, just finished my morning latte and Cinnamon Sugar Doughnut. Husband had an Americano and an apple turnover AND an almond croissant. [emoji18]

  4. As suekay stated, HCMC and Saigon is the same place ;). The OP would be better looking at the options available online for their particular sailing as there are more choices for Bangkok on our sailing than just the one you quoted e.g. single day transportation only and a 2 day overnight transportation only. They may find their cruise offers the same? Additionally, the OP is from the UK and the pricing would be shown in sterling for their options if they checked on their 'My Celebrity' shore excursions in their reservation online ;).

Yes, that was my weak attempt at humour without a winky face emoji. [emoji6].

There were many more options available on this sailing too. However the OP was asking about the "On Your Own" type transfers, so that's what I provided. I provided the USD pricing in case they were to be purchased onboard with OBC. As a Canadian, I'm aware that online pre-cruise options appear in your currency of record. [emoji846]

  5. Okay great! Thanks! I'm going to call them later today and get my cabin changed!! I also have noticed that they have a sofa bed AND the one upper berth. Where is the upper berth and will it be in the way or noticeable? I won't be needing it since there are only 3 in the cabin. T

It recesses into the ceiling perpendicular above the existing beds. Definitely not in the way. In fact, it was the third night before I even noticed it. [emoji4]

  6. I agree that I would not pay $50pp to dine in a specialty restaurant. So what is the secret on how one gets a 30% discount and I don't mean through dining packages?

No secret. We were returning to the ship on the second afternoon and there was a table set up in the foyer. We got 3 specialty dinners for $90 per person. Well worth it at that price, but I probably would not have paid full price. Yesterday when we returned I believe they were offering 40% off.

  7. Hope your enjoying your cruise, do they show movies on the new outdoor screen? Is it a nightly event?

Yes, weather permitting they have been showing 2 movies in the evening. The first is free and open to everyone; last night it was Bridget Jones' Baby. The second later showing carries a charge as there is themed food included; last night was The Hundred Foot Journey. On this itinerary it hasn't been every night, I assume that may be because we are in port multiple nights.

  8. I'm on the Millie right now, and yes, there are a few places where she's showing her age - notably some obvious rust around d the pool area and some of the doors in the public areas are worn and in need of paint. The carpet appears to be new, and I have not seen any torn upholstery or drapes.

The first day the water coming out of the taps in our cabin was rusty coloured, but after running the tap for a few minutes that cleared up.

The food has been good in the MDR and excellent in all 3 specialty restaurants ( we bought the package). The only food we found to be lacking was room service breakfast and one beef stir fry dish on the buffet a few nights ago. It was very tough, like the meat had been sliced with the grain, rather than against it.

We have the premium drinks package and have received excellent service and recommendations from bar staff especially at the martini bar.

I have heard from other passengers that they feel some "hard sell" tactics for drink packages, dining, etc. We didn't experience this at all, but we already have everything.

WiFi is better than I've experienced on other ships but still slow compared to land-based. It's letting me post this though.

I like the size of the Millie and wouldn't hesitate to sail her again.

  9. You both nailed it!

It was a non-event, a routine procedure that is done from time to time.

An announcement was even made right before leaving port that they were going to do this and we would be going around in a circle for a while.

Apparently (like most shipboard announcements) not everyone heard it.

And this article was written by someone on land watching, so they definitely wouldn't have heard the announcement.

  10. Hi

My wife and i are booked on the Millenium for SE Asia cruise in Feb 2017,we are Sailing from Hong Kong to Singapore with stop offs in Vietnam and thailand,my question is,if we decided not to do cruise tours,do celebrity provide shuttle buses to the various cities,ie Ho Chi Min,Saigon,Bangkok and also Hong kong and Singapore, the first three ports dock quite a way from the cities so if you dont want to go on an organized tour are shuttle buses provided to the city so you can DIY and if they do any idea on costs.

Any help and advice would be most appreciated.

    Thanks

Don't know about Saigon, but they provide On Your Own transportation for HCMC at USD $46 per person and for Bangkok for USD $69 per person. I'm on the Millie in 2 weeks. :D

  11. I'm confused now. So do you pay the 18% gratuity on top of the normal service gratuity?

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

If by normal service gratuity you are referring to the daily charge to your onboard account, then the answer is yes. The bar service staff are not included in the group that receives the daily gratuity, the 18% is charged on a per purchase basis.

  12. I will only go to Canada to attend a hockey game and root for the Rangers.

Would that be the same Rangers that the last place Canucks beat last night??? [emoji6]

The world really was upside down last night! [emoji848]

  13. I think the idea is that each person buys their own package, but what happens if you try to buy two drinks at once, or go to another bar for a 2d drink, immediately after you buy one at the first bar. Can you do that in order to save the cost of buying a second package?

I think you answered your own question... ;)

  14. Good day,

While I am one of the biggest supporters of security the one issue I find is that the "same" staff member did the pat downs and that others complained. To me this is a pattern and should at least be brought to the attention of those in charge. Maybe someone just needs some retraining or there could be something else

My thought is that it might've been the same crew member each time as they were the only female security officer on at the time. That would make sense - assuming it was a female officer. If it wasn't, well that's a different issue...
