Are their popular excursions at risk for selling our if you wait to book on board?
Yes, popular excursions do sell out. Once sold out, you can no longer sign up either online before your cruise date or onboard.
-
I fill them out at booking.
Probably not any longer ...
For our cruise in December of this year it states check in will not be available until September 2, 2018. That's only 3 months out, not a year. For our December 2019 cruise it is the same, check in available in September, 3 months out.If you read the thread & replies, you will see for many people's cruises, Carnival first changed it to 12 months out, then in the last 24 hours amended it to 3 months out. Carnival also just added the 3 months out time frame to their FAQ section.

I just booked a cove balcony on the Vista for November 11th. I usually go with an inside cabin and book about a month before departure.....so this is pretty crazy for me. Sooo, my question is, is it worth my time to even check for price drops?? From what I’ve seen if you don’t book a cove balcony pretty early they are long gone. I’m not even sure if I understand benefits of booking early saver...🤷*♀️
Early Saver rates are usually (only) $20 per person cheaper than the next lowest rate (Past guest).
The only other real benefit is price protection up to 2 days before the cruise date.
There are only cove balcony rooms on Decks 1 & 2, so not as many as of those category as some other categories.
You are correct, one the category sells out, no more price matches.

Where are you travelling? My consumer cellular plan does not work outside of the US ... at all. They have no coverage. At least in May 2017 that is what I was told. I was travelling to Cuba.
I sincerely doubt any US based cellular carrier will have in network coverage in Cuba. Just not gonna happen in the foreseeable future - especially since US citizen travel to Cuba peaked in 2017 and is now only at 50% of last year's volume.

Looks like it has changed to 90 days pre-cruise. My November 2018 cruise now lists check-in available 19 Aug 2018. I guess this means you can't select a port check-in time until then. If you are not P or D this would be a big issue for planning purposes as you would not be able to pre-book private transfers to the port until 90 days out. Another cutback by Carnival!!! With limited transfer times for popular transportation companies this would be a big disappointment and probably a cost increase as you might not be able to use the transportation company you want. Thanks Carnival for taking more away from us!
- Online Check-In (Available Aug 19, 2018)
The same range of check-in times and number of slots for each will still be available. It might hinder making transportation plans for those who feel compelled to book everything a year ahead, but I also don't see how this could be called another cutback.

Unfortunately you've witnessed "its my vacation and I'll do what I want syndrome". There is no known cure but prevention is possible by reporting those affected with this syndrome to staff if its abusive, smile it off for lessor offensive behaviors or seeking less crowded venues. It doesnt only exist on cruise ships, but is harder to avoid due to a captured audience.

Get rid of the alcohol (or quit serving people that are already well on their way to being intoxicated) and you get rid of a big portion of the problems.

Yep, that's been officially changed in the FAQ's.
Must be, this morning I noticed my online check-in availability date changed from September 12, 2018 to June 9, 2019 for one of my cruises.
-
If you are also flying, not sure lighter can go in checked suitcase
-
If one passenger is tentative, I would book a rate with refundable deposit (just in case)
-
Same here. This change must have been rather recent, because when I booked the cruise (about 2months ago) this field was available.
As far as I know, the change occurred overnight
I was able to open the online check-in yesterday.
-
I never fill anything out until after final payment so have no idea how far in advance one could start doing the forms.
No need or advantage to filling stuff in early.
Previously you could complete the online check-in as soon as the cruise was booked and showed up in your online account.
-
As of this morning, I notice I can no longer access my online check-in for a cruise that is about 16 months away.
In all the fields where I could previously open the online check-in, it now says "available Sept 12, 2018" (which is about a year before the date of the cruise).
Anyone else notice this change ?

As long as you add the insurance at final payment (Carnival) or maybe just prior (3rd party provider), you can wait until you're nearer to final payment. One caveat though, some policies have a 'cancel for any reason' and pre-existing condition options which requires you to buy the insurance within a certain timeframe after initial deposit (not all 3rd party policies but some). If there is concern about either/both of your parents having to cancel, that might be to your/their advantage to get a policy with those options.
I would say almost every policy that covers pre-existing conditions requires purchase within 14 or 21 days after the cruise deposit is paid.

Also, the cabins that are very close to the exit to the pool area are noisy..
I would disagree with this. There is a door and two 90° bends in the hallway that goes from Lido Deck sliding doors to hallway where the Lido Deck cabins are located.
We have never been bothered with noise from hallway or from our Lido Deck balcony.

No rental car locations at POM
Several have downtown offices, not sure those locations offer a shuttle.
The MIA airport locations do offer shuttle service to POM.

the higher you go the more you pay
Yep, you gotta pay for the best location

There are no incentives good enough for us to give up control over our bookings.
No truer words have ever been spoken.

With early saver you can book one person in the cabin and add another person later. You don't book a second person as TBD, you just book as a solo. You have to pay double deposit. That locks in the price for two, and you can add a person at a later time. If you're not sure the other person is going to do the cruise, it's best to wait till they're sure because you can't remove a person or do a name change with early saver.
Carnival "breaks" their own rules all the time, as long as you're will to "gift them" $50 per person, they will do name changes under Early Saver rate. I have done them under Early Saver. I have also transferred an Early Saver booking to another cruise (different ship, cheaper rate) for a $50 fee per person and used the existing deposit for other cruise.

We always do Lido Deck balcony.
No downside at all.

Hi......
I have been on many Carnival cruises, but have never booked an Easy Saver. Can I add a second person after purchasing cabin?
What are the particulars I need to know?
Thanks.........:p
Perhaps you mean Early Saver ?
Although I have never done it, others claim you can book a 2nd person as TBD
Early Saver has a few advantages and some distinct disadvantages
Advantages = cheaper price (usually about $20 per person and price protection up to 2 days before cruise.
Disadvantages = nonrefundable deposits, charges for name changes
Read the Terms & Conditions before booking Early Saver

debit card online
And there-in lies the disadvantage (one of many) in using a debit card for travel expenses.

We once had a tour vendor (not through Carnival) wait for us for almost 30 minutes. They emailed us that they were waiting. We have also waited with our tour vendor for about that long for others to show up. Most of them are very good about making sure that no one gets left behind. Even better if the ship is late or has problems and you're not the only one that's late getting there :)
Exactly - no matter how late you arrive to meet your independent excursion guide, you will still be waiting for someone arriving later than you.

Does Carnvial still grant extensions on the final payment. I've put down an over 700 dollar deposit but the final payment has fallen on an off pay cycle and an unexpected event has occured. I could use another week but don't want to lose my cruise!
Any tips/advice is greatly appreciated!
Exactly why I stash money in my desk drawer each month to make those final payments ......

Use a credit card, not a debit card.
Holds placed on debit cards can lock up your account for up to 10 days.
Pre-authorizations on credit cards do not lock up anything (unless you have an abnormally low limit)
