  1. Hello thanks for taking the time read this post. We find ourselves in a bit of a conundrum, we have put our deposit down for the December 4 sailing out of Fort Lauderdale, we have until September 5 to cancel and receive our deposit back or pay the full remaining amount. Our problem is that we have a 40% chance of not being able to make the December cruise

This is not our first cruise and with our prior cruises we never had any insurance. We need to know is there an insurance company that will ensure us in case of cancellation.? We may not know if we will make the cruise until late in November.

I realize we could just cancel with Celebrity get a full deposit back and wait and see what happens and possibly book on another ship later but we got such a great deal on this cruise that were reluctant to do that.. We don't need lost luggage, missed connections or any of the other insurance that companies provide.

We are not fond of dealing with insurance companies because it seems like when it's time for them to pay there are surprises and surprises usually cost the insured money.

I just thought I would throw it out there and see what advice some of the more seasoned cruises may have. Any suggestions and/or advice will be appreciated. If someone could recommend a no nonsense insurance company would also appreciate that.

    Thanking you in advance

You may want to view the site, "Insuremytrip ". It's a great resource for travel insurance.

  2. I've used Canyon Ranch Spa on quite a few cruises, since the change was made. Yes, the charges are high, compared to land services, but I've never been pressured by upswell conversations.

  3. What's jollop? Is it tasty?

Seriously, Celebrity did that when we first started cruising with them 20 years ago. They served a fruity drink in a souvenir glass on embarkation day for $6.95. They stopped the practice a few years later. Actually, the glasses were nice souvenirs & @ $6.95, not a bad price. Today I am sure it would cost around $24.95!

We had the classic package on our last Celebrity cruise & not once were we asked to upgrade.

I can remember the pool staff walking around with a tray of "Bahama Mama's".

I'm glad they stopped that practice.

  4. Andy,

Thanks for posting. You know me, I am usually the optimist. But, there are a few things on the release that excites me.

First, I got to try the updated menu in Tuscan last Christmas in a trial run. If it is anywhere close to what we experienced, it will be great. It was probably the best meal I have had on a cruise ship.

Also, I like a little red wine. And, it is a LOT better in Riedel glassware. ;)

So, you will not hear a complaint from me. :)

Ed, I too am the ultimate optimistic person. We've seen changes come and go with Celebrity, and just went with the flow. Hopefully, all of these work out to be great!

  5. I agree with Theriac. I priced our business class, one way tickets from San Francisco to Rome, and it was $5900 on British Air. Thru Choice Air, we paid $1631 pp. We chose our date, route, and flight. Once I had our locator number from Choice Air, I went to BA's site and chose our seating. Easy procedure.

  6. You will get instructions in your cabin, regarding the b2b procedure. You'll have to disembark (possibly as a b2b group), go through immigration and customs, and then you'll be given a new Seapass card. We've had lunch as a group on past b2b cruises.

  7. Thanks, hope we do too.

I will say that while there aren't the perks of "free" beverage packages available on the TA's anymore, I've never seen so many Elite and Elite Plus people as on the two TA's we did. The lounges, especially the Ensemble lounge, was ABSOLUTELY packed with people every night using their 3 free drink coupons each night. There were over 1000 Elite, Elite Plus on both of these cruises, so the potential for the same issue you have is there too. We didn't witness on those cruises and hopeful we won't on the Equinox TA this October....

It isn't unusual to have a large number of Elite and Elite Plus passengers on TA's. Usually, if there is a large number, they will issue vouchers, that can be used in other drink venues. This opens up the Sky Lounge and other areas as well.
