  1. Also with your time dining they ask you for your room number when you walk in before they seat you. They record in the computer what wait team you had that night. Then at the end of the week they divide up your tips so that the specific wait teams that you were served by get your tips that night. If you don't eat in the dining room at all and choose the Lido, that night's share of food service tips get distributed more heavily to the ones working the buffet that night.

    Really?

  2. I have sailed on one of these casino offers.

You have booked the cruise and paid for it already, correct? I'd do the no-show. Your sis is planning on catching up at the first available port, if she can. (wink wink)

You can't delete anyone from the record without losing money. Instead of losing it ALL, the remaining pax should go. Just in case, I'd look at rates and print copies of what the prices SHOULD be for 2 pax in the same cabin category on other online websites that sell discounted cruises and print copies. I'd do it a couple of times and last minute, too. Documentation should someone say the price now for 2 is x IF your sis doesn't make it. But, I see that has highly unlikely.

If you were flying in from different cities and she missed her flight...it wouldn't be any different, would it? How could you know that would happen and she would miss the ship?

I would not follow this advice.

The discount is only good if the person receiving it is actually ON the cruise.

  3. I don't understand why you would cancel given no local transmission. Just because someone that lives there got it from traveling to an affected area means nothing. That could be the case in any country. Plus it's my understanding Bermuda doesn't even have the mosquito that is the primary carrier of zika.

People panic for no reason. The same mosquitos that carry zika also carry malaria, West Nile virus, and chikungunya yet no one is concerned about these even though one million people die every year from illnesses caused by these other viruses. Reminds me of the Ebola talk six months ago. Some were in a panic and yet now we hear nothing about it even though it's still present. No one talks about it because it isn't front page news anymore so no mass hysteria.

And this is coming from someone who lives in Florida and is currently 33 weeks pregnant.

As soon as the money dries up you will not hear about zika anymore either. Once they scare everybody they can, and then people start realizing they have had the chicken little panic attack for nothing, the money dies up and they have to go in search of a new scare.

  4. I'm going to be cruising to Belize and Honduras in November.. I read multiple news stories about the Zika Virus coming from there recently... Should I be concerned or even debark there, kinda concerned...

I think you should cancel your cruise. It is the only way to be sure you will not contact it from one of the countries you visit.

  5. This is my biggest issue is just have some compassion and give us a break. Especially since we have went on multiple cruises with them. I'm not saying it was in anyway shape or form Carnival's fault. It was completely on him/us for not making sure sooner he had it. But would it hurt them to be a little compassionate? At one point we were standing at the counter debating whether or not my family was going to go without him and both my kids were crying. One Carnival employee even made the comment that if somebody else was in working in customs that day that they would have probably let us on. I also don't understand why we had to wait over 3 hours just to be told no. The boyfriend had family relatively close to the port and had we been told sooner that he wouldn't be allowed on, the rest of us may have went on the cruise anyway. At least then we could have been assured that he had someone there to pick him up and he wasn't just stranded hundreds of miles from home. I guess I just feel doing a good deed here may cost them a couple grand, which is nothing to them but overall would do more good than harm. We will most likely spend more money than previously if they credit us for another cruise, would be more likely to consider future cruises with them and would pass on that they are a good company that takes care of their customers. As it stands now they will definitely not get any future business from us, not that it will hurt them at all lol.

So you understand the number of sob stories they hear every day?

    They owe you nothing.

I love how you claim if they would just have some compassion, next time you would spend a little more than the absolute rock bottom prices you paid this time

Take your business elsewhere, but show up at the pier with no photo id and you will not be getting on that ship either

What you seem too ignorant to understand is, the reason you waited 3 hours was they were trying to get you on board.

Accept your loss, and move on.

  6. My husband told me on our last cruise that he saw the steward had a list that indicated whether cabins had prepaid tips. He tracked down the steward a couple times during the cruise, to ask for ice and get towels replaced, and happened to see the list. He didn't think of the existence of a list as controversial, just interesting. Obviously stewards have lists that help them learn our names, and it wouldn't be odd to include whether we prepaid.

Since we have always prepaid and never cruised with anyone who didn't prepay, I won't speculate whether it results in better service. I doubt it, but I can see arguments on both sides. Obviously, there might be incentive to impress someone who hasn't prepaid. OTOH, people who prepay may also be generous enough to tip extra, and there is also a subset of non-prepayers who have no intention of ever tipping. On that cruise, I overheard an extended family talking about how they all were removing the auto tips. Some stewards may develop a sense for which guests are likely to be among that special group of cheapskates.

I cruise soon and I will definitely be searching the carts in the hall for this list.

If I find one, I will take a picture and post it.

Seems odd to me not to have proof.

There was a picture someone snapped a long time ago but that particular cruise there had been big problems and LOTS of people had removed the tips. I don't think it was a typical thing.

  7. Twice now I have found our cruise cheaper on the carnival website only to be told once that we would have to change our rooms and they couldn't guarantee to be close to each other (have two adjoining rooms)...

and secondly that there were no balconies available, when their sites shows availability....

Kinda like buying a TV, Best buy has same TV as ABC but the model number is 1 letter off just so they don't have to price match....

Since you have not given any specifics as to what you are wanting to do, I will put my money on carnival making the correct call.

I love how people that do not understand the program are so quick to accuse carnival of playing fast and loose with the program where I have found them to be spot on every time I have used it.

Now with y that said, they have on rare occasions made an error which is why if you want to come on here and make an accusation, you should spell out what you are wanting to do and why you think carnival made an error.

Then people that understand the program could give you a second opinion.

  8. In general I don't care what other people wear on a cruise. In fact it is a good place for laughter as I sit and watch the people go by. BUT, for one or two nights if there is a rule to dress then it should be followed or don't have the rule at all. For one night the guy in the wife beater and hat on backwards can go to the buffet and over eat. I was a teacher so I believe in following rules. If there is a rule you follow it otherwise don't have the rule. Its really simple actually.

Where are you getting it is a rule? It clearly states it is a suggestion on what too wear.

I would think a teacher would have better reading comprehension skills.
