The workforce is beating down the doors to get these jobs at the "current rate"

When we were on oasis beginning of June our assistant waiter who was from India  told me that he would love to work as a server in a land based place like Miami but he would have to pay a sponsor like $20k to do that and he cannot afford that. Alot of corporations pay that sponsor fee for those employees when the companies recruit them from other countries. I know that because the partner in the accounting firm that audits our Financials got recruited from India to work in New york and his fee was paid by the company.

This illustrates the point I was making.  The guaranteed wage your housekeeper is making is far more than he/she would make in their home country.  There's a reason why so many of them have iPhones, Apple Watches, etc.  For many waitresses back home, that 20% will go a lot further.  People just aren't as emotionally invested - we're programmed to think the waitress at home should get a "real job," but we shower the waitresses on the ship with lavish tips.

Sorry but I have never thought that a waitress should get a "real job". Many people work various jobs and different shifts because of childcare, being a caregiver etc. It's not your place to judge anyone.

People removing gratuities is also my biggest pet peeve for the cruise industry!! Most cruise lines use America’s type of pay scale for the service industry so the majority of the staffs income is from tips.

I just don’t see how someone can justify in their mind it’s ok not to pay the people that make their vacation enjoyable. Very selfish type of people I guess.

I agree with you 110%!! People please think about what % $14.50 for housekeeping 2x a day plus meals is.  It's nothing compared to tipping 20% on a dinner if you go out at home.  I shake my head at the people who would take the tips off their bill. We do auto pay plus cash at the end.

  4. We were on oasis 2 weeks ago.  Aqua show and ice show not to be missed. Headliner shows very good but they change either weekly or biweekly. Same with adult comedy show. We didn't go to cats. Kids went to portside bbq for lunch. Said it was good. Very reasonably priced.   Make all your reservations for restaurants and shows right away.  We ate at the hibachi. Very good but very limited seating. Ask your head waiter to get you a reservation. We did was able to get reservation with  20% off.

Because you had already purchased the WiFi package you could have put your phone on airplane mode and turned on WiFi calling and you could have used the phone for calling and texting just as you would at home.

You didn’t need the $10 a day package.  Most times the international travel passes are for when you are in a foreign country not for the cruise ship as they operate off Cellular At Sea….

Thank you. That is what I did to make calls on the ship.  but I wanted to call from the islands also. I think the travel pass only kicked in if I used it on the islands. I'll see when I get my next bill.

  6. We were on Oasis last week.  It was our third cruise on Oasis, 15th on Royal.  The ice show and Aqua 80 (diving) shows are not to be missed.  The headliners change weekly.  One night we had a singer who only sang Adele songs.  She was excellent.  The music hall had a Styx cover band that played all week and was also excellent.  The adult comedy show was so so.  I've seen funnier comedians, but they also change weekly.  We did not go to see Cats.  We live 30 minutes from NYC and I go to Broadway shows often.  Had no interest in seeing Cats.

  7. We were on Oasis last week.   I purchased 1 Voom + surf package.  I also had Verizon put the Travel Pass on my plan for my phone (I think $10 a day).  I needed to keep in touch with my elderly father and mother in law.  I haven't seen my Verizon bill yet, but whatever it is, it's worth it for peace of mind.

  8. I believe if you have the diamond members in the separate rooms you would get the balcony discount on each room if you booked balconies.  We always book 2 connecting rooms (for the 2 bathrooms) because we go with my 2 adult children.  We're all diamond, but my husband and I separate to get any 55+ discounts for both rooms.

JetBlue (👎👎), March 2022. Going to and returning from our cruise. Worst we've ever experienced. And to add to that the JetBlue luggage apes destroyed one of our checked suitcases. 🤬

I wasn't going on a cruise but same thing happened on jetblue April 1st. I was flying from Newark to Sarasota. I get to the airport and flight was canceled. They put me on flight next morning at 630 am to Tampa. Longboat key is over an hour away. I said no thanks. Had to use $800 of credits on united to get from Newark to Tampa then uber to longboat key for over $100.

Your passports are current, right?  (That was a paranoia question.)  Assuming yes, you have no need of your birth certificates.  Or your driver's licenses.

They are all current but 2 of them expire within 6 months of this cruise.
