  1. The captain just announced that we are proceeding directly to the ranger station to drop off the rangers and then to the drop off point for the pilots. We are not going to go to the glaciers today. Tomorrow, we are planning to go as scheduled to college fjord. The helicopter came about an hour ago to evacuate the passenger with the medical emergency. It is now approximately 3:15 p.m.
  2. . The passengers from the wilderness discoverer were told to transfer to another ship by the Coast guard, according to the captain,. They were in the process of being settled into cabins on the sapphire but that plan changed. As soon as they were transferred, a new situation developed. Now, one of the sapphire passengers has a medical emergency and we are awaiting a helicopter to evacuate him/her. We are still drifting in the same spot we have been in since around 8:30 a.m.. it is now noon. Fortunately, although the sky is heavily overcast, there are only light winds and no rain. Awaiting work from the captain if we are going to cruise Glacier Bay.
  3. The passengers and crew from the wilderness discoverer are now on the sapphire. The Coast guard is on site and we are still floating about 200 yd from the discoverer. We are awaiting okay from Coast guard so we can resume our cruise on Glacier Bay. It is about 10:30 a.m. and this began sometime around 8:30 a.m.
  4. Reporting from bow of sapphire princess. We started Glacier Bay and captain reported we are assisting in recovering 52 passengers from a disabled ship that had a fire this morning. Nobody hurt thankfully. We just launched one of our tenders to pick up the passengers from the Wilderness Discoverer.
  5. Yes. That is what I intended. Buy plus and pay the upcharge for the 2 glasses of premium wine if that is all the premium wine you expect to drink for the entire cruise. I was also assuming you would drink an average amount of plus alcoholic drinks during the cruise.
  6. This is true. If you only plan on getting a premium glass or two of wine, then paying the upcharge from plus is a good option. Another option is you can bring a bottle of wine per person on board with you And know it is something you will enjoy. There are corkage fees possibly on those bottles depending on where you drink them but much better value than paying for a premier package for the entire cruise If you are not planning on drinking a lot of fine wine.
  7. You don't need to empty the glass of every drink you order . Some of us like to try new drinks when cruising and may not like a few. It's a good way to try new drinks professionally made and not waste single drink money on the ones we don't care for.
  8. Your problem is that you just refuse to become a nugget...
  9. Does ship time stay in sync with time zones during all Alaska cruises? Wondering if time on mobile phone will be reliable way to keep time on ship and in port or is it better to use a watch for ship time.
  10. One pair of test pants. These are pants that barely fit you when you start your cruise. Try them on every day.🙂
  11. Your question is reasonable but it is impossible to make assumptions without us knowing what are the fair use policies that starlink and Princess are setting for usage. There is not going to be unlimited bandwidth, and we all know that if people are going to stream video in HD or 4K and some users are trying to surf email, there will be problems unless starlink and/or princess put limitations on how much bandwidth each cruiser will be able to use. So for now, the right question is what are the fair use policies that are going to be put on individual users? We don't even know how much bandwidth Princess has signed up for with starlink.
  12. It's like when the great American heavyweight boxer turned philosopher Mike Tyson said " Everybody's got a plan until they get punched in the face." The average person is going to typically spend more than what they expect.
  13. My response to those who say just do the math.
  14. Regarding the WIFI, it has been hit or miss based on recent threads. Depends on the ship and the itinerary. There are WIFI service upgrades being rolled out so anything anyone writes now may not apply on your cruise next January. Bottom line, is keep you WIFI expectations open. You may get value from it and you may not. Like everything else about cruising.🙂
  15. It is very disappointing to me that so many of these posts mention taste and presentation but none say anything about where your food is sourced. A bad meal can be put behind quickly, but a badly sourced meal can be with you for years.
  16. As an American, it fascinates me that someone would say that it's ok for children to wear shorts on formal occasions because Prince George does it. The responsibilities that poor kid has at such a young age is just staggering. 😉
  17. Times have changed. Average kids today don't value long pants, nor write in script, use actual cash or know how to lace shoes. On the other hand, they can connect anything via Bluetooth, fix a home wifi network and pay for everything using cash apps.
  18. It's part of my American culture to tip anyone I think might be hoping for a tip. I'll even tip someone if they are just standing there. ,😉
  19. Princess should be repurposing processed waste into Milorganite like fertilizer, not dumping it in the ocean or anywhere else. Disney has been doing it at Disney World for decades. 🙂
  20. I found this answer using Google Lens. It is an emergency light. The green light indicates the power is on so everything is ok. In the event the power fails, the emergency light will illuminate to help you exit the area.
  21. The takeaway from this thread is that if you rarely cruise and you will only be satisfied if your cruise is perfect, don't cruise. A perfect cruise is a roll of the dice.
