  1. Thanks. For whatever reason they are not available to book before the cruise for our sailing. Don't know why it differs

from ship to ship, from sailing to sailing.

Hoping that we'll get there to book before they are no longer available.

Good luck! I was really surprised I was able to book online since I was only able to do it onboard in that past. I hope you get one. Linda is wonderful and it's such a great way to spend the day.

  2. I'm back from my cruise (boo!--I wish I was still in Coco Cay) and have a report for you. When you get off the tender, the tram stop is about 100 feet in from of you. It says "Tram Stop to South Beach." The tram (which is an upgrade from a few years ago) picks you up there and takes you on the 5 minute trip to the other tram stop and an area with a sign marked "Beach Loungers." Once there, you will be met by Linda, who is WONDERFUL. She will check you in and give you your wristbands. You can then pick your cabanette (previously I had picked which one I wanted at the Excursions Desk but it's now first come first serve). She will then tell you that the tram will come for lunch at either 12 or 12:30, and that if you want to go somewhere else on the island at all, let her know and she'll call the tram to come take you. You then go to your little cabanette and are given a cooler with 2 bottles of water and a plate of fruit. You also have 2 floating mats, which are really nice. There are extra towels too.

The water there is very shallow so you can go out really far (I would think it would be nice if you have kids--but be careful, because it's shallow, then deep very quickly, then shallow again), and there is some seaweed/grass, so if that bothers you, bring water shoes. It's really not bad. We saw some fish, some sea cucumbers and a sting ray (I saw a starfish last time).

The tram actually came for lunch at 11:45 and 12:15, but that was fine. We had the option of staying at the BBQ or bringing it back. If you want to bring it back with you, you just go back to the tram stop which is across from the BBQ. So yes, we had beachside dining. :) And Linda was very attentive--she noticed that the sun was hitting our legs and came and moved the cabanette around so we had more shade. We did have to walk to the bar each time we wanted a drink, but that was about 20 steps, so it wasn't too horrible. :D Last call for drinks from the bar was 2:30 and the last tram was supposed to be at 4 (we left at 3:15 and just walked back to the tender--it took probably 15 minutes).

Let me know if you have any questions. I highly recommend it! Hopefully the pictures I've attached work. (And no need to worry about being hounded for tips...there was none of that at all! We tried to tip Linda and she wouldn't take it, so we made sure to say extra nice things about her in the post-cruise survey.)

  3. I have a fair amount of prescriptions I take (but less than you) and I have always been told I had to have the bottle for each. Sometimes I take them, sometimes I don't. I don't plan to on my cruise next week. I did, however, take them on a trip a few months ago and I'm glad I did. I lost my drivers license and having those pill bottles with my name on them was very helpful. I know that's not why you asked, and that's not why you should have them, but TSA will ask...

I have never had my medication searched (that I know of). I always bring a few days extra just in case. I would think that your list would be fine, but I don't know for certain that that's true or not.

  4. I'd recommend untethering yourselves from the phones. Leave them in the safe for the duration of the cruise.

Instead, bring post-its and leave handwritten messages either on the door or on the mirror inside the stateroom. Post-its are also a great way to communicate requests to your stateroom attendant whenever away.

We found $1 nautical-themed post-its at the Dollar Store a little while ago. Bought $10 worth as we know they'll be put to good use.

In theory, that's a great idea. But I use my phone as my camera, notepad, watch, etc. My phone case also holds my Seapass card. Sometimes it's just not practical to go all the way to the room to write out a note.

  5. I'll be there on Wednesday so I will try to remember to come back and update you. I rented one of these a few years ago, and I too recall the tram back to the BBQ, and the waitress from the bar. I guess you could have beachside dining if you bring your food back with you? ;) And your own personal attendant if the bartender/waitress comes around a lot? I definitely had to go up to the bar a few times--I don't remember her being overly attentive.

I rented it again for my upcoming cruise because I love Barefoot Beach, I need shade, and I appreciate being close to a bar. It's incredibly relaxing and worth the $50 to me to be away from all the crowds.

  6. It used to be that you could just rent the snorkel gear and snorkel on your own--and that was considered an excursion (as opposed to the separate go-out-on-a-boat snorkeling excursions). I'm guessing this is that one. It was $20 when I did it 5 or 6 years ago, so it would make sense that this is the price now. :(

  7. People please. I have never seen so much speculation in my life. Four are/were ill. That is all we know.

Thank you! I've seen a lot of ridiculous threads here on CC, but this is one of the most absurd. Even the people who were on the ship don't know. If you're on the next cruise and it wasn't going to sail, you would know by now. People get sick and even die on cruises. It's sad, but it happens.

  8. I had a few bottles of soda in my carry on and had no problem getting them through security in Tampa. Once past security, there were dedicated C&A lines and it was quick and easy. Just make sure you know which terminal you are going to if more than one ship is leaving that day; we almost got dropped off at the wrong ship, as the cab driver didn't read the signs.

We were on the cruise after the one that got stuck out in the bay due to fog last February. The one that was supposed to go before us was cancelled. Be sure you get travel insurance.

  9. I've had Ken as my CD a few times. I'm not s fan, and not because I don't think he does a good job.

I think he comes across as arrogant or cocky, but I just think that's a bi-product of having to always be "on" 100% of the time, even when it's a tough crowd.

He's probably not arrogant at all, but he does project that.

That said, I wouldn't make a go/no-go decision based on the CD.

We had him as CD on Oasis during its inaugural season. I normally don't even notice CDs but found him obnoxious when he was on duty. Then we saw him "off duty" at Johnny Rockets and he was arrogant and smarmy. He was bragging to a fellow crew member about a passenger that came back to his room the previous night and what happened. Um...he may not have been in uniform, but he was loud and it was not appropriate dinner time conversation! I was appalled; not by the fact that it happened (whatever, I'm sure it happens a lot), but that he was so indiscreet about it.
