  1. I have a colleague whose wife was 21 weeks pregnant and was cleared to fly. She went into labor on the plane and they diverted the plane. They had to stay in Salt Lake City for 3 months. They were lucky to have wonderful health care, but the little guy is still suffering from being so pre-mature. He said they would never have flown if they had any idea that this would have happened. Just because she was cleared doesn't mean that nothing can happen.

  2. It's very easy. As the others said, just don't put anything outside your room the night before and be sure you can carry all your luggage. There is no size limit other than what you can carry yourself. We use this every cruise. It gets pretty crowded and sometimes the line gets a little confusing, but we've always been off our ships by 8:30.

  3. That has to be an extremely small subset of the cruising public

You're the one making a big deal of the year thing. I was just giving an example of some people it might be hard for. Like it might be hard for teachers. Or families. Or people with purple hair. I don't know...

  4. I can confirm that you can't take waffle makers on board in San Juan. Saw that on the confiscated table as we got off the ship. I should have taken a picture of it, but I didn't think of that.

Wow. That's the best thing I've heard of being confiscated. Why would one need a waffle maker? Aside from the obvious, of course...

  5. Wow :( Glad I dont have some rule like that. Two weeks notice is all I have to give. They wouldnt even accept a leave request this far out from me.

Yeah, it's hard for those folks. They have to make sure they have people to care for the animals. Personally, I don't ever make plans more than maybe 6 months out. I'm trying to plan a cruise for March and that seems like an eternity from now!

  6. Technically it is still a year off. ;)

But seriously, not sure why they couldn't have done Labadee instead of Nassau. Maybe another ship is there already

We have people who have to have their requests in by the first of the month a year ahead of when they want to go. Want to go on vacation September 11, 2016? Your request has to be in by September 1, 2015. So if the change is made on September 3, 2015, you might be out of luck. So yes it's technically a year off, but it could make a huge difference to some people.

  7. We are leaving the end of this month on a cruise. There were suppose to be 4 people in our room but now one person can't go because of getting a new job. Should I call royal and let them know, tell them when we are checking in, or let them be a know show. Any help would be appreciated

Are you all on one reservation? If this person has their own reservation, they should do it. Otherwise, yes, I would call them right away.

  8. But you shouldn't have to avoid the "checked" bag - that's the point. The rules don't allow extension cords which should only apply to those extension power strips with a cable off them, not adaptors which this is.

    as above.

I understand the point. Absolutely. But there are a lot of RC "rules" that aren't uniformly applied and appear to be open to interpretation. I was just offering some assistance based on my experience.

  9. The thing that got me about the message was, even if I were planning on going on the cruise, on what planet is it just OK to change the dates like that? I have a life, and it doesn't run on your schedule.

Exactly! (And hi Cigar King! We were on Liberty together a few years ago.) Maybe one of the reasons the response was so good was because of the dates? What if people had already asked for the time off? Some people have to do that a year in advance.

  10. I find it very hard to believe that Nassau, San Juan, and St. Thomas are most peoples "preferences".

I was thinking the same thing when I got that email last night!! I've never been to St. Thomas, so I listed that as a preference, but I think Nassau and San Juan are the two worst possible ports to go to. I was 50/50 on going on this cruise, but now no way. I realize they are limited in where the ship can dock, but come on. Nassau and San Juan are the worst, and if you're at the point where you're invited on this cruise, you've probably been to Nassau 300 times!

  11. There are two hot tubs in the Solarium and they hold about 12 people each. On sea days they can get a bit busy. The one in the gym holds about 30 and is often overlooked. On Nav last Oct. my wife was often the only person in there. She preferred that hot tub and visited every day of our B2B. :)

That's good to know! I like to go in the hot tub after the pool so I like having them close, but if I have to walk a little bit to be the only one in there, I can do that.

  12.

Sometimes an informal meeting time on embarkation day at a particular area on board (eg SkyBar overlooking pool at 3pm) works well also. Some people need a place to go that first afternoon to get into the cruising mood.

People from our Roll Call did this on one cruise where we didn't have enough for a M&M. We agreed to meet at the Sky Bar, told each other what we'd be wearing (I had a certain hat, someone else had a certain shirt, etc.) and just showed up as the day went along. It worked so well. I was traveling by myself and a couple from the roll call "adopted" me for the cruise. People showed up as they got on board and settled in. I liked that it was really casual, people got up and left as they wanted. We didn't do gifts or anything like that. We sort of did that the rest of the cruise as well. People knew we'd be at one bar after dinner and if they wanted to join us, great!

  13. I am considering some cruises for March and one option is on Navigator. I have never been on its class of ship before.

I love Liberty OTS because of the Royal Promenade, the bigger size, and the more entertainment/bar options.

I went on Brilliance in March and was pleasantly surprised by it. But I did miss the Royal Promenande and thought the food options were lacking.

If I had to choose between Liberty and Brilliance, I would choose Liberty.

How does Navigator compare? Does it have anything unique that makes it special? Anything that people don't particularly like? I'm thinking it's more like Liberty but I would appreciate knowing why people do/don't like it. Thanks!

  14. I have a friend who wanted to plan a wedding during a stop in a port on one of her cruises during hurricane season. THIS is exactly why I told her she'd be crazy to do it!! Can you imagine?

Good luck to everyone cruising. I'm sure they're doing the best they can to keep people safe and get them to open ports.
