  1. It makes sense for Canadians.. sometimes. If the dollar value is better at the time of booking it makes financial sense to prepay and have the better exchange rate instead of paying the higher exchange rate at time of sailing. Other than that some people just prefer to pay as much ahead of time for whatever reason. It's a preference.

Yes, this is very true. I booked my next cruise through my TA who had a group. As a result I have the lower DSC and a very low exchange rate. In stead of using the OBC I bought, I will prepay so as to not have the increased fee tacked on when we cruise.

  2. I booked with a Canadian TA and since he had a group booking was able to get a reasonable price in Canadian $$. Looking at the same room on the NCL website the room is substantially higher (about $400.00) in US$. Am going to take full advantage of buying OBC and using it for the daily gratuties and possibly an excursion or two. We have the drink package as well as the 3 meal dining package with our booking plus double points.

  3. Given that the OP just booked, the exchange rate will be quite high for OBC.

Yes but not as high as at their financial institution. We did have a credit card attached to our room and I chose to have them charge through my financial institution rather than their exchange. I think the rate was pretty decent but we didn't need to find out!

  4. You can check what the OBC rate would be by signing into your personalizer and "fake" purchase some OBC. When we booked our cruise the rate was 1.20 so we purchased enough to OBC to cover all of our excursions and on board purchases. If you don't use it all, they will forward you a USD cheque in the mail. We found this beneficial due to the crazy exchange rate.

  5. Let me just say that one person's cool is much different from another person's idea of cool. We are experiencing -20C so give me 10C and I will be in shorts! I see from the long range forecast that this coming weekend in SF is supposed to be 18-22C, that my friends is summer!! Will let you know how we make out, landing on Friday!!

  6. Looking forward to checking out the dancing on the Grand in just over 2 weeks. On our only other Princess cruise, Diamond out of Sydney, the staff member who taught the dancing came in one night to load up his dance music. We had talked to him and he was originally from our home city in Canada and he was happy to provide us with something new to dance to.

  7. I saw a post about a week or so ago with the alcohol that is available by the bottle but cannot track it down now. Just wondering what the price is for scotch and what is the gratuity amount that is charged?? As well, what does the breakfast menu look like?

Many thanks for any and all replies! Looking forward to our Grand Princess cruise!
