  1. Drinks are cheap on a cruise:

Grey Goose is $9. At resorts, hotels, las Vegas, anywhere vacationay, anywhere nice, expect to pay more than $12. $16-$20 is fair game. At the renaissance I think the drinks start around $12 for a basic cocktail, but you're getting a heavy pour.

On Princess for $9 you need binoculars to find any liquor in your glass, you need a double to compare to other venues.

  2. Just sailed on the CB in April. We loved it! Made me love cruising actually. I don’t get the negative reviews about her. I will be honest though, we don’t care for the food in the buffet at all. It could have been our timing, I don’t know. We loved loved loved all of the other food options and did not feel deprived a bit! We had club class dining and we looked forward to dinner every night. I hope you enjoy your trip!

We will be on the CB this coming Sat., wondering or should say hoping they have gone back to offering BOGO & the Elite lounge happy hr. drink menu.

  3. O.K. We are going on the 14 day carib princess in 2 weeks, always never brought any liquor on board, .With the new policy we will abide on the policy & bring 2 bottles of wine & enjoy our cocktails on our balcony as we used to do before our great plat/elite happy hr. Hope Princess likes having less income from the bar.

  4. Hi, We are looking at booking for next March 2018. There are currently NO "sales" on the sailing we are looking at. So no "special pricing". But the deposits are clearly marked as "non-refundable" on the Princess website.

There is no reduced deposit amount mentioned, so I'm assuming its the full amount which I think is $450 pp for a 10 day. For 4 of us in 2 cabins that adds up!!

Could someone please let me know if I'm right about what the normal deposits are, and also does the Princess insurance with Platinum upgrade cover the deposits?

Thanks. My TA is away on a cruise til next week so I'm trying to figure some of this out before she gets back!

They are doing the non refundable so when they reduce the price you are screwed.

  5. The Dining Options document:

    https://www.princess.com/downloads/pdf/food-and-dining/dining-options.pdf

...still only shows Grand Princess and Caribbean Princess as having switched to Sabatini's Italian Trattoria.

And the ship-specific page for Royal Princess:

    https://www.princess.com/ships-and-experience/ships/rp-royal-princess/

...still shows Sabatini's under the old format. (The pages for the two ships that have switched have links to the new Trattoria menu).

While there was an announcement from Princess that the Trattoria menu would eventually go fleetwide, my guess is the priority is to make the upgrade to the older classes of Grand-class ship first. If the main gist of your question is, has the price been lowered from $29 back to $25 as it has on the two ships above, I wouldn't be holding my breath for Royal and Regal (or Crown for that matter).

Enjoy the old menu while its still available.

  6. I would always order the veal chop. I can get a breaded veal cutlet any time at any restaurant or even at home. I wonder if the veal cutlet is tough like the one in the MDR? I'm not impressed with the menu at all. I noticed that the Crown Grill serves a veal chop.

So, does anyone know what veal valet is???

  7. I was not asking for an exact weather forecast rather a range of what the temps have been in the past going across the Atlantic.

Weather is normally fair until you past the Azores which has nice fair weather then depends which direction, on year we headed to Dublin & the sailing was very foggy with weather cold to moderate chilly.

  8. Not really, since they are going to have to lose a cruise's worth of revenue repairing the issue whether it is now or next summer. I don't believe that class would allow this to remain unrepaired at the next annual survey after the part becomes available, let alone to the next scheduled drydock in 2019.

Obviously they are waiting till 2019, I`ll be on the 10/07/17 cruise & not bothered about the changes, just want a good safe cruise without hardships.

  9. Thanks very much for sharing the links to both the menu and the wine list! My wine loving husband appreciates it :)

The menu shown for Sabatini`s is the old one on most ships but not on the Caribbean Princess which has a new one which I`m not sure about. I always liked the present one.

  10. We're like you & with bars having few customers in late afternoon, the BOGO$ generates much more income than without it.

If it averages about $5 per drink with BOGO$ that's still more profitable because it creates much greater sales during a slow time. The bar's staff gets 15% from many, many drinks which certainly beats yawning from boredom because there isn't much for them to do. I'm confident that hour is their best time of the day for the 15% tips & that they wouldn't want Happy Hour to end.

Whether it was HQ bean-counters or overzealous staff on the Caribbean attempting to impress their superiors, it was a poor decision & having not read about it expanding from the Caribbean they may already realize that it's another failed idea.

Reduced prices resulting in greatly increased drink orders beats a few orders at the regular price.

Policy comes from headquarters, this is obviously a test on Carib Princess & unfortunately for us as we on the 10/07 sailing.

  11. Since you mention that you are thinking about a 10 day cruise in March, 2018 I can assume that you are thinking about the Caribbean Princess Panama Canal on March 8, 21 or 31, Royal Princess on March 10, 20 or 30, Grand Princess Mexico on the 13th.

All of these voyages are currently covered by the Sun Drenched Deal promo which has a $100 non refundable deposit. This is the deposit if you book now. If a better deal shows up you would have to cancel and re-book. You will lose the deposit.

Its a way for Princess to prevent you from receiving any new price drops.

  12. Just had the e-mail to tell me that, because of technical problems which limit the maximum speed of Caribbean Princess, the itinerary for our December 20th CHRISTMAS CRUISE has been changed.

So it would appear that the long running saga of Caribbean Princess's technical problems will persist into NEXT YEAR.

We will no longer visit St Maarten, where we were scheduled to arrive at 12.00 and leave at 10pm.

This will be replaced by St Thomas, but we will not arrive until 1.30 pm, which, although we still don't leave until 10pm, a departure at this time from any port is of no use whatsoever to the passengers unless they extend meal times!!

Antigua and St Kitts will be visited in reverse order, with the St Kitts visit being put back by one hour

Compensation offered is $50 per person, in the form of refundable OBC, for all passengers, which in our case is substantially less than 1% of the cost of the cruise. Think I might contact Princess and point out that some folks are paying a lot more than others and see if I can get my compensation increaed!!

This compensatory OBC is not, however, showing on the revised booking confirmation which came with the e-mail, so I guess I might need to take my original confirmation, along with me in case it doesn't appear when we board the ship.

Fortunately they have not put back the arrival in Fort Lauderdale from the scheduled 7am, which could have been a problem for us, as we are scheduled to fly out of West Palm Beach around 1.45pm.

We are sailing same ship 10/07 for 14 days & received same offer & the obc will not be applied until we board. They also changed St. M for St T.

  13. I can confirm, just off the Royal. Two happy hours a day, BOGO $1, and platinum/ Elite lounge was $650 for about 6 different drinks.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Thrilled to hear the afternoon Bogo is back, I`m booked on the Caribbean & Regal ships & hoping they at least kept that. The menu on the new elite lounge sounds terrible, so we`ll have a drink from our bar before dinner.

  14. Maybe they are just just testing it out on this ship

and it's not on all the ships.

Just go and eat the snacks don't buy the

drinks and then maybe they will go back

    to the old drinks.

Read a thread that its also on the Caribbean Princess & they also cut out the Bogo at 3pm, something else to cry about..
