  1. After doing extensive research here on Cruise Critic, we decided to book M108 on our upcoming Caribbean cruise in January. The room layout is very unique so I'm guessing it won't feel like a typical Princess mini suite, and then there's the huge balcony we can enjoy as we enter/exit the ports. While at sea hopefully we can use the balcony although I think we will be sleeping, eating and doing other things during most of those times. We like using the balcony first thing in the morning and then later at night.

I have looked at those too. I think I would like it even though the balcony railing is not glass. Please give us a review of the cabin after your cruise [emoji6]

  2. If you are interested, I recommend you look at the Princess website to compare the cost of different mini-suites to the cost of your specific deluxe balcony. You can't do this for your cruise if it is sold out, but you may be able to do it for a later cruise on the same ship with a similar itinerary.

Depending on the exact deluxe balcony you have booked and on the exact min-suite you would be booking, the upsell offer does not appear to be a bargain. The difference in list prices may even be less than $199.

Before you talk with Princess, make sure you know which specific mini-suites - if any - you would be willing to pay that much more for and which ones you won't.

I don't believe you will be able to negotiate the price for the upsell. They need to make an upsell to someone, since they probably oversold deluxe balconies and undersold mini-suites. It may even be a ladder - upsell someone from a mini-suite to a full suite, upsell you to the mini-suite, upsell someone else to your deluxe balcony. They will keep making offers until they find someone to take it. However, I would not expect them to make you a second offer if you turn this one down. If they improve the offer, I believe it will probably go to someone else.

Just make you own decision. Would you rather have the mini-suite? And is the price worth it to you?

Just tried to book another week but the entire month is sold out for this cruise. So I had to do a mock booking for 2016. The mini is about $700 more per person than what we paid for our cabin according to the mock booking. Still, my husband tends to think its not worth the $199 ea. since its a port intensive cruise. I just keep thinking about that bathtub and the extra room. :( I called and left a message so we will have to be ready with a decision in the morning. Thank you all very much for all the input.

  3. It depends on a lot of things.

You did not mention the length of the cruise. $199 for a 7-day cruise is different than $199 for a 17-day cruise.

Also the itinerary makes a difference. A larger cabin is more important on a cruise with a lot of sea days.

It depends mostly on you. Do you spend a lot of time in your cabin?

Go ahead and call them tonight and leave them a message. They will call back in the order they receive the messages. They may offer the upsell to more people than they have upsell cabins available. If you don't act fast, you may not get it.

They will probably offer you a specific cabin - possibly a choice of cabins. You will need to make a decision immediately. I don't expect them to let you think about it and call them back. What is important to you? Do your research on the ship and have the deck plan in front of you when you are talking with them. Your balcony may not be as nice, but the room would definitely be larger.

It's a 7 day cruise, with only one sea day

  4. My DH & I are booked on regal in a deluxe balcony room with one of the angled balconies. Today I received an upsell offer to move to a mini suite for $199 per passenger. I do not know the location of the mini suite, I have to call them tomorrow morning.

Excuse my ignorance but I've never been offered a upsell before and I don't know if this is a good deal or not. According to the princess website, the Regal is sold out for this cruise.

  5. We always get a red eye to NY when sailing out of Brooklyn, flight arriving around 6:30.

We have a car service and try and stop to get coffee and a breakfast sandwich at one of the Bodegas in Red Hook.

We arrive at the pier by 8:30 to 9:00. They start taking luggage by 9:30.

We sit right inside the entrance near the xray machines. We have done this several times. Great people watching as everyone is getting off. ;)

    Boarding starts around noon.

We are on the Oct 3 sailing. We have an appt that morning and won't be able to board until 1:30. Will it be nuts at that time?

  6. you need to look at the newark-world trade center saturday schedule.

if you take a cab in ny, print out the driving directions to the brooklyn pier. And have the exact street address. It is an easy trip if you pay the tunnel toll from lower manhattan near the wtc to brooklyn.

    thank you!!

  7. I hiked around Jordan's Pond the last time I was in Bar Harbor. What a beautiful hike and views! So looking forward to returning in October on RCL Brilliance.

Could you see the ocean from this hike?

  8. Having a car is a great asset. You will love the drive around the Park Loop Road. Here are some options for hikes:

    Very easy and stunning views:

Ocean Drive Trail - This is essentially a walk along the most scenic section of the Park Loop Road. There is the opportunity for walking out on the rocks that jut into the ocean. I love walking this on cloudy, even stormy days, when most people are not out. If the sea is rough, be very careful about where you walk if you go off the trail to walk or sit on the rocks. It can be dangerous if a big wave suddenly comes in. Good footing and an easy walk on the trail. Very popular, so lots of people on nice days.

Bubble Pond - Has a carriage road along one side. You can do an easy out-and-back. Turn around when you feel you've gone far enough. Very pretty pond surrounded by mountains.

The carriage roads are all flat easy footing, so they are used by bikes, as well as horses - no motorized vehicles allowed. They're great for hiking, as well. The one around Eagle Lake is very popular, but long. You could go part way and turn around when you feel like it. There are not constant views of the lake, however, because of all the trees. Still, the woods are very pretty.

    Moderate hikes:

Gorham Mountain Trail: If you're willing to do some walking/climbing on rocks (really ANP is all about the pink granite the island is made of) then I always recommend hiking on Gorham Mountain. The trailhead is at a parking lot near the far end of the Ocean Drive Trail (or the Ocean Drive section of the Park Loop Road) and easy to find. You will have about 500 ft of elevation gain, which gets you up on the small mountain with even better views of what you see from Ocean Drive. Stunning views for a little work climbing up there. I've taken family members who were not regular hikers, and the park rangers have a guided hike on this trail, so it can't be too bad.

Great Head: Another possibility in the same area, Great Head can be accessed by parking in the Sand Beach parking lot, which is at the start of Ocean Drive. Walk across the sand toward the mountain. There is a bit of a climb to start, but the rest is fairly easy. There is some loose rock and exposed tree roots in places. Great views of the ocean and the mountains back behind Ocean Drive. Tends to be quiet here.

South Bubble: A bit tougher, but very popular. It is a longer climb and it is steep, but doable. The steep part of the trail is very wide and a lot of it is like climbing several flights of stairs. I usually need several rest breaks, and there is room on the sides of the trail. I love going up this one if it is a clear day because the views are spectacular. You can see Jordan Pond and out to the ocean, like the picture in my avatar, which was from North Bubble. Usually when I come back down South Bubble, I continue on up North Bubble. These are small mountains, but wow what gorgeous views can be had! South Bubble has its own parking lot, not very far past the parking lot for Bubble Pond.

If you're riding the Island Explorer Bus, you can access all of these hikes, but you will need to let the driver know if you want to go to South Bubble. They don't stop there unless you request it. The rest are usual stops.

Hope that helps! ANP is my favorite place in the world. Enjoy!

Thank you!! That is wonderful information. Have you done any bike riding in the park? Is there a convenient spot to rent bikes?

  9. I have already done a google search and did not find my answer.

I am wondering if anyone has stayed in Regal E437. I picked it because it looks like an angled balcony from the deck plan.

If you have stayed in this cabin, can you tell me if the balcony is much larger than most? How obstructed is the view?

I appreciate any help you can give me.
