  1. What was amazing is how cold it got in a matter of seconds. It went from almost 60 to 38 in an instant with the breeze. I was in the totality for 2 min 47 seconds. We shut the bridge down to/from Canada since the lights that turn on at dusk take a bit to come on and those coming to the US would be looking directly at it before reaching the peak of the bridge.

Well, I guess I can stop asking those people going to Syracuse to Fly to a cruise if its you!!!! Hopefully we'll meet up maybe camping at swan bay this summer. Have a great cruise. Think of us in my home town day two with no power and 2-3 days until we get it they say . 😤

  3. Sitting here at work, dreaming about going on the Tribe cruise. Had the high windstorm last night and was told that we will be out of power for 3 more days. Glad that the border area was unscathed by the storm. My generator has become my sole power since 8pm last night. Have to drive 38 miles to shower since the water in my area is for some reason not working. DW is not happy I HAD to go to work. 😆

We do too. Will be there in a couple of weeks.

Did you work on this past Thursday day shift about 1:00 PM?  If we are going through we have RV towing car and always have 2 bottles and two cartons of cigarettes bought at duty free and a dog on drivers lap.

Not last week but I work this Wednesday and Thursday. Off Friday to Sunday this weekend. I’ll look for you.

That's so funny! When I get up there, I fly in and out of Watertown, Sistah picks me up and drives me to Chippewa. So no need to cross any Canada/US bridge. Although I used to back in college (Potsdam). My sister went to college in Canton, as did my Dad, a couple of uncles, as well as several cousins. Lots of fun memories of crazy college days in Canton/Potsdam! Both my parents  grew up in Ogdensburg. Visited aunt/uncle and both grandmas there many many times growing up. Small world, eh?

Both my wife and I graduated from Potsdam. Under grad and masters. Both teachers until I left after 911. Had the calling  to serve and US Customs was hiring. Been there ever since. I grew up in Plattsburgh but moved for DW. Will retire in both Ny and southern NC in 2028.

Yes, that would be great. My limitation is that I don't have a boat I can drive--the last upgrade my Dad made (years ago) is beyond my comfort and ability. I really miss that old Evinrude outboard...I took it everywhere. It's now a Grady White inboard and just too much for me. I gave up after 2 summers of practice. Just could not control it and terrified of landing it at a dock. So since you have a boat, you def should visit Manzanita if we are up there at the same time. Grand tour, old family island history tales, and drinks provided. 😉

P.S. In what part of northern NYS do you live?

I work at the Ogdensburg port of entry. I actually live outside of canton. My son lives on rt 37 very close to the state golf course.

Keep looking for you and SensFan when I’m at work. As compared to you profile picture before this one, I found your twin. She had no idea what I was talking about when I asked her if she was on cruise critic! Ask every Canadian when they are going on a cruise out of Boston  or the NYC area if they follow cruise critic. I have yet to meet anyone.

If you were there when I was, I wish you had messaged me! Would have had you over for a traipse around! Re the top picture: That little one is Eagle;s Wing. No one has been there in a while. The land mass to the right & behind it is Cedar Island. Part state-owned, with some of it privately owned with summer homes. Our island was up to your right--across from Cedar. Called Manzanita. Am trying to attach a map--check out the arrows. Hope it makes sense! You were close enough to wave at me. 🙂

We were actually camping at swan bay marina in a-bay. Wanted to find grindstone island winery. Went completely around the island, four adults having drinks can’t seem to find the correct dock! 🫣.
Definitely saw where you were. We were all around Dark island earlier that morning. Showing the people we were with Singer Castle.
We like to camp at Jacques Cartier and boat into Chippewa Bay and float around. I’m sure I’ve seen Manzanita many times. Next time you’re up there hopefully we can meet up.

@Greenpea2  We were driving along the St.Lawrence yesterday and thought if you. I hope you had a great time and your ankle healed up for you to get the best of your vacation.

Speaking of the St Lawrence River, islands near Grindstone Island the US side of the river . Close to Clayton NY. Notice the closest picture … Vacant camp with an osprey sitting on the nest on top of the chimney!!  I believe  the one  @greenpea2  stays at is a larger island.IMG_4921.thumb.jpeg.5739b6d020930962e2c0116c10026f56.jpegIMG_4923.thumb.jpeg.c6e7b23e53f32e9b8fb59600171ad9d1.jpegIMG_4922.thumb.jpeg.07970ee5c9d39994a06ac097cd04d43f.jpeg

  9. 32 years ago, today we got married. 32 years ago, tomorrow we set sail on the Carnival Tropicale from San Juan for a 7-day honeymoon cruise. Haven't missed an anniversary gift yet, except for this year. Oops!!!. But we did agree this morning that our cruise in July to Bermuda is our gift to each other. Maybe she forgot a gift as well.    This cruise was supposed to happen for our 30th from NYC but covid stopped that.

I've searched everything Bermuda in relation to cruising, Followed Saint Gregs review intently, and believe that we'll just play it by ear. Going on a Hidden Gems excursion Day 2.; Otherwise beaching it Day 1 and taking the free NCL ferry to Hamilton to shop and relax day 3.

Any thoughts on what else to do. Wife is a teacher, so we will be hitting the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute. Other than that, no real plans.

Sorry Tribe, I need to take a moment to vent and whine about US government bureaucracy. So both my kids are US citizens- both have US passports and official US report of birth abroad documents. My 16 year has never had a SSN as when we registered her birth at the consulate in Vancouver, we took her Canadian birth certificate instead of the report of live birth (no clue what the difference is). Learned our lesson and the 11 year old got his SSN with his report of birth abroad.

Just a thought as a US Gov employee. Asking to speak to a supervisor, sometimes helps, then again depending on the Sup, it may not help. For most supervisors I deal with, hearing pain in a mother's voice in regard to a child, breaks the Sups "toughness" and a humanistic quality comes out to help. Again, sometimes that is.  Good luck. I know how tough it can be.

A nude cruise? How can you be comfortable sitting anywhere other than your cabin? Every chair would be like sitting on a public toilet….will they put those paper covers everywhere?

Nothing like a good gut splitting laugh reading your post !!!!!  Can't get those paper covers out of my mind 🙂 The next restroom I see them in, I will probably laugh out loud.

  12. Hey @BirdTravels, I have been following you and some of your posts for what seems like years now. Can't remember the last time you Posted a question or a statement and "ran away" from the conversation. If 4 pages of useless conversation is what you were hoping for, you achieved it. 🙂

I'm sure it will grow to many more pages and laughs for you.

  13. Question for the Tribe members, DW and I are cruising to Bermuda in July from Boston. Has anyone stayed near the cruise port? Most of the places nearby are over $475 a night. Hoping to find a something nice but cheaper.  We want to sightsee in that area, so I really don't want to go that far away. Just kind of wondering where people have stayed. Plan on asking the same question in the Boston area but since I follow this section, I actually trust the tribe members more than the average CC user.  I know there are a few tribe members that leave near the Boston area. Thanks

I'm sure you'll be in the Observation Lounge at some point looking for people with their feet up on the sofas! 😄

Finally here and 14 pages long already.

Never saw the feet from your last review. Well, maybe this time.

By the way It has been below ZERO F all day at work. Just praying for you to talk about the heat Sid. It was -34F when I got up this morning and is supposed to be +37F as the high temp tomorrow, that is over a 70 degree change in 30 or so hours.

  15. Sid I'm not sure if it was one of your reviews (think it was on the Encore) or one of the many other reviews I've read.  But I believe you used to take pictures of people sleeping with their feet on the couches. It would freak people out seeing the stinky and ugly feet all over the upholstery.  Since you are shooting for the "Going out with a bang" maybe one last picture of the inconsiderate feet could get the posts exploding. Just a thought.
