Where was this posted? I don't see it on Heald's Facebook page.  I've got friends scheduled to depart on April 6th on Freedom and have been looking for updates.

    He posted about it yesterday.

  2. Here is some info I found on an archive of the Carnival website from 1999:

From December 5, 1998, through May 22, 1999, the IMAGINATION will sail on alternating Eastern and Western Caribbean seven day cruises.  Starting Saturday, June 5, 1999, the IMAGINATION will begin 4 and 5 day cruises from Miami to the Western Caribbean.

What's interesting is Cunard has this itinerary listed in their featured new voyages.  But it is an itinerary they can't actually sail.  They would need to visit a distant foreign port to sail from one US city to another.

I know about the rule you are referring to, but I believe there is an exception for Alaskan ports, as Princess (another brand under the Carnival group) does this all the time? On the way back there is a stop in Canada too.

Victoria is in Canada isn’t it so that means the ship has called at a Foreign port. Don’t think PSA specifies it has to be a distant foreign port. Post pandemic this act was suspended when Canada still were banning cruise ships from docking.

If it's RT from the same US port it only has to be a foreign port.  But if it leaves from one US port and returns to another it needs to visit a distant foreign port.  As far as I know the act was only suspended for the 2021 season.

That cruise, and others, make a call in Victoria, BC to satisfy archaic US shipping rules. It doesn’t have to be distant, just a non-US port.

I'd guess a second out of PC or Miami and Mardi Gras or Celebration picks up some of the shorter cruises, especially with Celebration Key opening and its ability to have two Excel ships at the same time.  They'll want to keep that as busy as possible - some shorter cruises on the bigger ships would solve that problem...

That's another possibility.  Royal Caribbean is starting to put Oasis class ships on the 3/4 day cruises.  I could possibly see Carnival putting one of the Excel class doing 3/4 day cruises to compete.  Or maybe even one of the Vista class ships.

I'm not even sure the CAN do it on a 7 day. That would require using only ONE sea day between either Ensenada and PV or between Mazatlan and Ensenada on the way back. I suspect that'll really mess with the port times if it even doable at all.

It would have to be something similar to this like NCL does with some of their Mexican Riviera cruises.  You end up with a short visit to Mazatlan.

  7. One of the problems I see putting the 4th Excel class in Long Beach is Cabo.  They would either have to do a Puerto Vallarta/Mazatlan/Ensenada cruise or start tendering with the Excel class ships.

And then if they continue doing the 6/8 day rotation as they are going to start doing with the Panorama, where do they go for the 6 day cruises if they can't tender in Cabo?
