  3. @dogcanyonI had the HIA package. I do not remember receiving any type of compensation. It worked, just not very well.
  4. @marshhawk @summer slope Coquito is Puerto Rican “punch” served during the Christmas/holiday season. It is very similar to egg nog and can be made without adding alcohol. I love coconut and like it much better than egg nog.
  5. Thank you Sandi for getting us started early every morning while Rich is cruising and to all who contribute to the Daily. Debbie will be back tomorrow, I have enjoyed filling in for her. Positive thoughts to those who need them. Cheers to those celebrating and cruising. Salmon is the superfood of the sea. Salmon is known for being a protein-rich source of omega-3 fatty acids which help fight inflammation, lower blood pressure, and reduce the risk for disease. The protein in salmon helps you to stay satisfied, and helps your body to heal after an injury, and repair and rebuild muscle. Salmon is packed with B vitamins; it’s one of the best sources of vitamin B12 which helps to turn the food you eat into energy. And it is a good source of other B vitamins like niacin and B6 which are critical for brain development and keeps the nervous system and immune system healthy. Salmon contains potassium, which helps to fight bloat and regulate blood pressure; selenium, which helps with bone health and protects against cancer; vitamin D for strong bones; iron for growth; and an antioxidant called astaxanthin, which may help keep the brain, heart, skin, and nervous system healthy. Salmon isn't packed with mercury like other types of fish. It can contain PCBs which are industrial chemicals that have been shown to cause adverse health effects. If you're worried about ingesting PCBs, pay attention to the type of salmon you buy. Farm-raised salmon have higher levels of PCBs than wild-caught salmon, so try to choose wild salmon vs farm-raised when it’s an option. 7. We were in CO on the Rotterdam in February. We told the wonderful hostess Genesis that we wanted to sit with the same waiter for every meal. She said easily accommodated us for every breakfast and dinner. Our waiter quickly learned our preferences such as our before dinner drink choice, no bread and tea after dinner. We were happy to provide an extra tip to the hostess, server and his assistant on the last day of our cruise.
  8. Unfortunately, the rocket failed soon after the launch and fell into the Atlantic. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/23/science/relativity-space-launch-terran.html
  9. Very happy to hear that @dfish had a successful surgery and was home eating ice cream last night. Positive thoughts to those who need them. Looking forward to the pictures of Punta Arenas; we will be there next February and are beginning to think about shore excursions. Thank you to all the Daily posters. Are you familiar with the story of how Baked Feta Pasta became so popular? During the second week of February 2021, Instacart started to notice something strange. Sales for block feta had skyrocketed 117%, and the cheese was now the top-trending search term on its website. Cherry tomatoes and basil were not far behind. What on earth was causing this random spike? Baked Feta Pasta, the ooey-gooey dish- composed of whole cherry tomatoes, pasta, garlic, basil, and a big block of feta cheese- had been blasted all over the For You pages of millennials and Gen Z’ers for weeks. As of March 1, 2021 #fetapasta had more than 661.7 million views on TikTok. The similar yet more specific #bakedfetapasta had more than 86.7 million. Between the two hashtags, there are more than 45,000 videos of the feta pasta circulating around the app’s ether. It has evolved forms too: vegan feta pasta, feta pasta with shrimp, a feta pasta that doesn’t use feta at all but Boursin yet is still widely considered part of the feta-pasta canon despite not having any feta. Why is it so popular? McArthur Joseph said, “To me, it breaks down into a couple of things: (1) an easy recipe, (2) inexpensive/accessible ingredients, and (3) instructions that feel like an art-and-crafts project.” How to make tik tok pasta with feta cheese? Drain your block of feta and place in the center of a baking dish. Surround your block of feta with cherry tomatoes, sprinkling chopped garlic on top. Drizzle olive oil and add your seasoning: dried Italian seasoning, salt and pepper. Bake for 30 minutes, until the cheese melts and the tomatoes burst. Here is the recipe from one of the original viral posters. Baked Feta Pasta {With Cherry Tomatoes} - FeelGoodFoodie This recipe adds shrimp. Baked Feta Pasta with Shrimp - This Delicious House This one is made with high protein, high fiber and gluten free chickpea pasta and chicken. Baked Feta Pasta - Stay Fit Mom I frequently make this pasta. It is an easy dinner party dish. I have substituted Boursin cheese for the feta. I have added spinach and broccoli. I hope you try it and enjoy it too.
  10. I am pleased VERY pleased to hear that you can proceed with physio and drive! Now I’m just hoping spring arrives to your home very soon.
  11. I could only find one recipe for Greek Sausage Pita Pizzas. If you like gyros, you would like this version. Basically, they’ve turned a sandwich into a flatbread like pizza. It uses Italian sausage but the other ingredients are commonly found on a gyro. Also, pita bread that is made from whole grains has a low carb and high fiber content so I believe it would be acceptable for those on a diabetic diet. Greek Sausage Pita Pizzas Recipe I think if you are going to call a recipe Greek Sausage Pizza it should be made with Greek sausages. Loukaniko sausages are famous in Greece, there are many different versions depending on which region but the base of it remains the same; pork, lamb, garlic, coriander and a fruity Greek twist of citrus peel. If I made this recipe, I would substitute Greek sausage for Italian sausage. This brand is available at my local international market. This pizza is made on a more traditional pizza crust; you could always place the toppings on a pita. The toppings are Greek: creamy feta, salty olives, artichokes and roasted red pepper. I think eggplant would be a nice addition. Of course, you could also add sausage. Greek Pizza Recipe - Cookie and Kate I am including a recipe for the ancient Greek pizza known as Ladenia Kimolou. It has a homemade flatbread base with vegan toppings. This versatile pizza could be served morning , noon or night. Ladenia Kimolou: Ancient Greek Pizza - Dimitras Dishes Sending positive thoughts to @kazu @dfish and to everyone else dealing with medical issues today. Also, compliments to @Gail & Marty sailing away for there incredible work on the Linus Project and all of their blanketeers and to @The-Inside-Cabinfor posting about the project on their wonderful World Cruise experience thread.
  12. @Cruising-along Everyone loves the food you ate when when you were growing up. I had delicious Dungeness crab when I was in Seattle. You may find this article interesting. https://seattlemag.com/eat-drink/crab-fight-which-coast-has-better-crab/ If anyone would like to try an authentic MD crab cake they can be order from my favorite https://www.boxhillpizzeria.com/shop/ or from Oprah’s favorite https://pappascrabcakes.com/collections/all?nopreview
  13. Md blue crab season runs from April 1 to December 15. MD crabs are "fatter" in the Fall, and taste better. Early in the season and in the off season, crab house get there blue crabs from the Gulf of Mexico, particularly the area around Louisiana. Oh my... those telescope pictures! Beautiful. @Heartgrove Nick's is good, for a change, next time you are in Baltimore, try LP Steamers for crabs. I love fresh soft crabs too. Havre de Grace is a quaint small town that I encourage everyone to visit if in the area.
  14. I believe this is a common problem for people who try crab for the first time. The MDR has an appetizer called Baltimore crab cake; it is horrible, mostly filler, no old bay, not blue crab. It is so bad that in my post cruise survey I ask them to remove the word Baltimore from the description. Also, I was talking to the Pinnacle Grill chef on the Oosterdam last November. I asked him what to order because I don't eat red meat. He said have the crab cake. I said, I'm from Baltimore. He said, don't have the crab cake. He told me that it was made with Pacific crab (I think Dungeness) which is very different from MD blue crab. I know that many people enjoy the PG crab cakes but they have never tasted a true Baltimore crab cake made with fresh crab meat.
  15. Seems like many of the Daily readers don’t like crab. Perhaps it is because you’ve never had freshly steamed Maryland blue crabs. Crab Topped Tomato Slices are one of my favorite summertime meals. First, I’m going to explain how we do it in Maryland. First, get a bushel of MD blue crabs. Steam them with Old Bay and then dump them on a newspaper covered table. Slice some MD tomatoes. Pick crabs. Wipe tomato slice across the old bay seasoning on top the crab shell. Place backfin on top of the tomato slice. ENJOY! I went down a rabbit hole looking for recipes. Anyone who has eaten fresh crab, knows that you don’t want to overwhelm the flavor. Last year, I paid $36 a pound for fresh local blue crab meat. I like recipes like this one I copied from my local garden club cookbook. Plain & Simple Ingredients: 1 lb. backfin lump crabmeat 2 lemons or limes 4-8 leaves endive or romaine lettuce parsley for garnish Instructions: Pick through crab and remove shells. Place one or two lettuce leaves on each plate. Gently mound crab lumps on endive. Squeeze citrus juice over top of crab. Serve with fresh, sliced tomatoes. This recipe looks good to me, the simple addition of fresh corn will allow the crab meat to shine. Tomato Steaks With Crab-Corn Relish Recipe - NYT Cooking This recipe is the first one that popped up on Google, definitely not my favorite. The chef says he takes this treat camping. It uses canned lump crab meat and is heated over the campfire. Crab-Topped Tomato Slices Recipe
  16. Debbie is taking a break from the “Meal Suggestion of the Daily” this week. I am happy to share with you one of my favorite Indian dishes, Saag Paneer, not to be confused with Palak Paneer. Saag Paneer can be made with spinach, mustard leaves, or really any mixture of greens. Palak Paneer is strictly made with spinach. Saag Paneer is vegetarian, gluten-free and can also be low-carb and diabetic friendly if consumed with a low-carb accompaniment. It is very popular in British takeaway shops Paneer is known as the Indian cottage cheese. Paneer has a mild and milky flavor and a dense crumbly texture that goes well with strong spicy flavors used in many classic Indian dishes. It won't melt like other cheeses, so chunks of it can be stirred into soups or curries and remain intact. Paneer is available in my local grocery store but if you can’t find it, use this link. 15 Ideas: What's the Best Paneer Substitute? - Some Indian Girl Another key ingredient is Garam Masala which can easily be found in the spice section of your grocery store. It can be made from many different spices, but some of the most common are cinnamon, peppercorns, cardamom, mustard seeds, coriander seeds, cloves, mace, and nutmeg. Our first recipe contains directions for how to make your own Paneer and Garam Masala. Saag Paneer Recipe | Aarti Sequeira | Food Network Fatima gives us the background to the dish along with possible substitutions, alterations and other tips. The BEST Saag Paneer! - Fatima Cooks This recipe is thicken with cream or coconut milk and looks like the simplest to make Authentic Saag Paneer Recipe Wishing everyone an International Day of Happiness!
  17. @doone or @Real NHDOCDid the fix the”leak” in the Seaview pool? In the beginning of February, the deck was always wet near the bar. That was the only negative of my 11 day cruise. Loved CO, great service from all departments. Looking forward to our TA on her in the Fall.
  18. Today’s quote is from the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, an 11th century poet, philosopher, mathematician and astronomer. Fitzgerald translated his poem from Persian into English. Whether the Cup with sweet or bitter run, The Wine of Life keeps oozing drop by drop,The Leaves of Life keep falling one by one Think about time when you read this quote, life is brief, try to enjoy all that life has to offer to the fullest. I wish all who post on the Daily, a wonderful day, positive thoughts to those on the care list, cheers to those celebrating and cruising.
  19. FYI-I did a transatlantic on the Oosterdam in November. The internet barely worked during the crossing. Best time was very early in the morning but still unable to send photos. Streaming and video calls were impossible. Even the officers were joking about it. I stayed connected by sending brief iMessages before I went to sleep. I keep hearing about Star Link but I have no idea if HAL has stated connecting their ships.
  20. Aft facing verandah are the best, views of both sides of the ship. If I am lucky enough to be booked in one, I wouldn’t take an upsell. However, I have taken an upsell to Signature Suites but I never take the first one. After 3 previous offers for my last TA. I took upsell a very reasonable offer to a SS you really enjoyed the extra room.
  21. They do not take reservations. We never had to wait but tend to eat early 8am/6pm. I don’t remember seeing anyone waiting when we finished dinner. The Half Moon Bar is right next door and there are seats by the windows if you did have to wait.
  22. I had a deck 8 aft verandah on the Rotterdam and it was completely covered. Deck 8 is my preferred deck. I love the easy access to the Seaview pool and Lido. It is also closer to the Neptune lounge on deck 7.
  23. Muskrats are celebrated on MDs Eastern Shore. The link contains a recipe! https://chesapeakebaymagazine.com/muskrat-festivals-celebrate-eastern-shores-lesser-known-protein/
  24. Happy St Patrick’s Day! I made corned beef last week because I saw it on sale. My DH said, why do we only have it once a year? So I bought another one! I’m not Catholic but the Archbishop of Baltimore has given Catholics in the city permission to eat meat for one Friday during Lent because St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Friday this year. Halibut is one of my favorite fish and the recipes look delicious. I often find the fish on a BHB to be overcooked but after speaking to the chef he said to order it rare. Now I frequently order it that way in the Pinnacle and it comes out perfectly. Want to see the beauty of life under the sea but you don’t snorkel or dive? Try Atlantis Submarines available in several Caribbean ports. I thought I would be claustrophobic but I was so mesmerized by the fish, I didn’t even think about it. Thanks to all who regularly post. Positive thoughts to all who need them. Cheers to those celebrating and cruising.☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️
  25. I love deck 8 aft section cabins because of the proximity to deck 9; if something is seen on the other side of the ship you can quickly go up to see. We prefer cabins under the Seaview pool. I have never been bothered by pool noise including a few rough nights during a canal passage on the Zuiderdam and a transatlantic on the Oosterdam. There is a brief period of noise when the chairs are being set up but it is not that early in the morning. I once upgraded to Signature Suite on the Oosterdam which was under the Lido, you could hear the carts rolling across the tile floor early in the morning. Once I realized what it was I was able to go back to sleep but it was noisier than under the Seaview pool area.
