  1. @1ANGELCATWe went to Breezy Ridge Greenhouse in Oxford and Hilltop Greenhouse in Quarryville and Lone Pine Greenhouse in Kirkwood (biggest). Happy to find rhubarb. Bought twice this many annuals for less than $50(some have already been planted.) Stopped on 222 to buy baked goods too. Productive day. Love the garden club. @bennybear I have an opinions about the coronation but kept them private because I thought an unspoken rule of this thread was no politics which I appreciate. I appreciate port info, pictures and the food & beverage department every day. Thanks to all who contribute with positive comments and messages to those who need them.
  2. I have not read any of Keypad’s books but did a bit of research. She is primarily a romance writer and this quote of from a series about the Travis family. It is frequently used during wedding ceremonies because it explains how love is all about two different people who fit together perfectly. I will be driving to an Amish farm in Lancaster, PA in a few minutes to buy my annuals. I’ll be picking up some herbs in honor of the day too. IMO, macaroni & cheese must be baked. The best part is the crunchy topping. I use panko sometimes mixed with Parmesan cheese. Positive thoughts to those that need them. Cheers to those celebrating.
  3. My last cruise was on the Rotterdam in February. Here is my experience. 1. Fresh fruit can be delivered to the room every day by asking the steward when boarding or do you have to order it each day? Not sure 2. Pillow chocolates on Dressy nights only 3. Two a day room clean and fresh towels- yes just ask 4. Just that pump stuff 5. Just robe 6. Wood hangers- just ask for more if you need them 7.Music available in room? Should be able to get something on the TV 8.on embarkation - does a staff member escort you to your cabin- NO 9. When are the cabins ready. Usually as soon as you board. Even if they are not you can drop your carry on in your room. 10. Anyone shipped luggage via FedEx from the Boston area to Ft Lauderdale hotel? I have never used luggage shipping
  4. Used FlightEase to book one way to Amsterdam yesterday. United flights..1st segment is an Air Canada code share, 2nd is a KLM code share. Was able to select my seats for free on both segments.
  5. from one of my favorite cartoonists! In my experience, a hoagie has a crustier roll is served cold and uses oil and vinegar, never mayo. If the bread is good, I love all types of hoagies, subs, heros, grinders and sandwiches. I often make this Hoagie Sandwich Topping. I appreciate everyone who responded to my travel insurance question. Seems like being a MD resident is preventing me from purchasing certain policies. I did contact Insure My Trip but the only annual policy they could offer had a 2 year look back period which won’t work for my DH. I will continue searching. Positive thoughts to those who need them. Cheers to those celebrating and cruising.
  6. @cat shepard I need to look into the groups that provides low cost travel to retired teachers. Could you share the tour group you used? @tupper10 Residents of MD can’t use GeoBlue. I have spent a lot of time reviewing the posts on the CC “Insure my trip” thread. My husband has Medicare but his supplemental policy covers care outside of the US. I am paying attention to the reimbursement to fly home. My husband is 71 so I will look at the MedJet policies. I appreciate everyone on the Daily for their personal insights.
  7. Thank you for your reply. I hope you are able to enjoy Hilo; the Air B & B looks nice. Also, I hope you are able to comfortably fly home with only 1 connection! If anyone else could offer advice on medical travel insurance companies I should explore or avoid, I would greatly appreciate it. It is a daunting first experience.
  8. Thank you to everyone that makes the Daily such a special place. Life is very short, and what we have to do must be done in the now. Audre Lorde was an amazing poetry and prose writer. I wonder if the quote is from The Cancer Journal where she confronts the possibility of her death and the silence that surrounds cancer and illness. Her writing also addressed injustices in society; maybe she was encouraging us to act to make the world a better place. Caribbean Shrimp & Rice Bowl sounds delicious. @dfish suggestion of cauliflower rice is a good one but I frequently use half brown rice and half salad greens as a foundation for my bowls. @DCThunder I agree that it’s not a Dark and Stormy unless it’s made with Goslings rum. I love the drink; the rum tastes different than other dark rums, a bit like molasses. Recent stories about medical issues while cruising encouraged me start researching medical travel insurance. I am embarrassed to say I have never purchased it. I want to buy a yearly policy because we have 4 cruises scheduled in a 12 month period. I am concerned about the “look back period” on several of the policies. I’d appreciate any advice you may have…good or bad.@St Pete Cruiser Were you happy with the service you received from Allianz? It is one of the policies I am seriously considering. Wishing everyone the best day possible.
  9. @Gawker Since the cruise goes fromBA to Santiago, I would pick starboard so you can see the land and instead of the ocean for the part of the cruise around SA, particularly the Chilean fjords.
  10. I love an aft balcony, I book them when they are available. You may find this thread helpful too.
  11. On two different HAL cruises, I asked for and received, the recipe for a dish I enjoyed on board.
  12. Vista and Signature suites have binoculars. Verandah cabins do not.
  13. @StLouisCruisersLet’s celebrate teachers this week, next week and every week of the year! @Nickelpenny Thank you for your services as a school nurse. I don’t think many people outside the school building realize all you do for our students. I appreciate you and am glad you are getting treats this week.
  14. In 2023, Teacher Appreciation Day was yesterday, May 2 and Teacher Appreciation Week runs from May 8 to May 12. Teacher Appreciation Week always takes place the first full week of May—and that includes Sunday. Teacher Appreciation Day, on the other hand, takes place on the first Tuesday in May. They line up in most years, but in 2023 there’s an extended celebration. Eleanor Roosevelt convinced Congress that we needed a dedicated period to thank teachers for their hard work. Teacher Appreciation Week began in 1953 after Roosevelt spoke before Congress. It wasn’t until 1980, that it became an official national holiday. And it was originally celebrated in March but was moved to the first full week of May in 1984. Positive thoughts to those who need them. Cheers to those celebrating and cruising
  15. @RozThank you for taking the time to write a detailed review of your shore excursions and for including the contact info for your private tour.
  16. @Dobby36Thank you for taking the time to reply. I am looking forward to the penguins; we have booked with Adventure Falklands, to Volunteer Point, I hope it’s not too bumpy. We fly home from Santiago so I will contact the company you suggested to see if they will do a tour from the port with an airport transfer.
  17. @Dobby36 I would appreciate any insight you have to the excursions too, same questions I asked Roz… What was your favorite tour in Argentina, Uruguay or Chile? Did you do any private tours? If so, any specific operator you would recommend. Thanks
  18. @Roz Thank you for posting this review. I will be doing a 22 day SA & Antarctic cruise in January 2024. What was your favorite tour in Argentina, Uruguay or Chile? Did you do any private tours? If so, any specific operator you would recommend.
  19. @EatonDoolittle Tell your TA you are interested in “upsells “ to be sure they are forwarded to you. @rodndonnaIf upsells are available, I usually start getting emails about 3 weeks before the cruise. The cost of the upsell continues to go down as the sailing date gets closer. On the Oosterdam last November, upsell started at $500+ pp from a verandah to signature suite. I booked it 3 days before the cruise for $149pp. So check the current price of the cabin you would like to move to and decide how much you would be willing to pay for the upsell.
  20. @CruzHand You can wait for an email offer to upgrade or call on your own. There is no bidding. You are not assigned a room; you pick from the available rooms. Here’s the number: 888.628.8107 1. Have booking number 2. Have credit card 3. Have deck plan 4. Be ready to make a decision
  21. 🐇🐇🐇 Happy Mother Goose Day! Yesterday, while we were driving, traffic came to a stop. I could see cars with flashers on. I got out of the car to see what was in the road. It was a Mother Goose crossing the road with several goslings😊 A more modern take on Mother Goose. Loved the beautiful leis when we visited Hawaii. Positive thoughts to those who need them. Cheers to those celebrating and cruising.
  22. Here are the Alaska menus 2022. Thanks to @Crew News They will probably be similar.
  23. I believe Build a Bear is on Carnival ships not HAL.
  24. To me, a chef’s table is either in the restaurant kitchen or has a view into the kitchen. It allows guests to view food being prepared and interact with the chef. The closest situation on the Rotterdam would be in the Club Orange dinning room. It really isn’t a chef’s table but you could see some food being prepared. You must purchase CO before the cruise.
  25. In celebration of Clean Comedy and Great Poetry Reading Day… And because Edgar Allan Poe is buried in Baltimore and Lamar Jackson final signed a contract. I will happily kiss my mate today. Positive thoughts to those who need them. Cheers to those celebrating and cruising
