  1. Agree about hand washing and hand sanitizer - however, I strongly disagree with your comment regarding elevator usage!

You have no idea how painful walking just one flight of stairs is for someone way UNDER 80 with bad knees!

  2. I'm interested in this as well as I'll be on the 9 day starting 5/21.

Does the kid's compass include information for Royal Babies & Tots? My son will be 2 at the time we sail and I'd like to know what to look for. :)

May 21 is the first 9 night sailing for the Liberty. There is a 10 night that departs on May 6 and then a 5 night departing May 16

Try going on the roll call for the 10 night sailing and asking someone there to help.

Just did a search for Liberty Royal Tots program and found this post http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1377981&highlight=royal+tots+program+on+liberty

It is an old post (from 2011) but might give you some decent info

  3. Rumor around here is that Liberty is supposed to get the Freestyle machines but time will tell.

I sent an email asking about the freestyle machine and several other questions - and here is the response I received today:

"At this time, the Coca-Cola Freestyle machine is not offered on the Liberty of the Seas. We apologize for any disappointment this may cause."

  4.

Read the whole thread but still just want to confirm the freestyle coke machines are indeed onboard. Noticed a post from last month that said they were nowhere to be found, but all others since January have said they're there. Anyone been on in the last couple weeks to confirm? Thanks!

I have been reading the same conflicting reports! So I would also love to know the answer!!!

  5. My daughter was on this cruise and didn't have one complaint.....other than she had to disembark this morning. We have been on the Explorer many times, along with other ships so she has enough experience cruising to base her opinions.

Her shore excursions were also canceled and she received a full refund. I think the OBC must have been based on what type of cabin you booked - because she received more than 200 per cabin.

  6. Cellphones work on Royal ships. You would have to check with your carrier for pricing, but AT&T charges $2.49 per minute and $0.50 per text sent.

AT&T also offers a package. Rates start at $30. for cellular call, 60 for calls plus texts, and 120 for calls, texts and internet (they give you a certain amount of minutes, texts and internet) All listed on their web site. They offer this plan for Royal and Celebrity.

  7. Thank you so much TRVLMIL for your updates. I am on the phone with my sister. Her daughter and soon to be son-in-law are on the Explorer right now. I'm reading this entire thread to her. My Sister asked me to tell you that your words have calmed and comforted her a lot. Thank you:)

Your welcome. No need to worry. Royal left Bermuda early to keep them safe from the storm.

  8. So, just because I want to be sure I am understanding this correctly... we actually have 2 issues at the same time? Forgive me if I sound silly, but I was trying to keep track of which problem was causing which issue.

Hurricane coming through by route of Bermuda (causing NCL ships to divert to Florida/Bahamas route and unknown what RCCL ship scheduled for Bermuda will do at this point). Then there is a separate issue of the bent shaft/propeller on Explorer, causing her to have to change port times in Bermuda (and other ports) because she can't move more than 18 knots (instead of the usual 20-21 knots that she needs to get from point A to point B).

If I am wrong - can someone just put me back on the right path?

I am on Explorer 5-night Bermuda itinerary in the beginning of October. If what I am reading is correct, then we may have to plan on a shortened stay in Bermuda due to the speed issues and getting back to Bayonne on time for the next cruise after us. Not a big deal to me because I will be cruising and not here at work for those days - so they can cruise me to the moon if they can figure out how to get me there (and back). :D

Yes 2 issues. They arrived into Bermuda later than scheduled due to the propulsion issue. They left Bermuda early (as did the NCL Gem) due to the impending hurricane. The Summit and Breakaway did not sail to Bermuda as scheduled for the same reason. (the threat of a hurricane)

  9. My daughter just called. She is going to Captains Corner in a little while. I told her it should be an interesting one if the annoyed passengers attend! LOL

Asked her to video tape if there is anyone carrying on!

She also said they weren't moving at the moment. Captain told them yesterday that the azipod was fixed and at some point they would stop so they could do readings on it. So I guess that's why they're currently stopped. I am sure that I will hear from her again - will keep you posted.

And she is having a great time! Despite the people yelling at guest services that they will never sail Royal again! As they say..........some people make lemonade from lemons and some just people just are sour lemons!!!:D

  10. I can't imagine where the ships would go as an alternative to Bermuda. They only have a short amount of days. And they have to visit a foreign port because of the Jones Act.

The Canada/New England cruises have a fairly short distance between ports, so shouldn't be that much of a problem getting from one port to the next on time. When they get to Canada, they may have to shorten the stays a little. I don't see that itinerary as that much of a problem.

I'll try to come back and update you when we leave on the Explorer tomorrow.

    Gwen :)

I read that the Breakaway was doing the Florida/Bahamas itinerary.

  11. Most recent text message from my daughter....she said there are a lot of unhappy passengers moaning and complaining about having their time in Bermuda cut short. Captain informed them that the two other ships that were scheduled for Bermuda diverted to other ports. (Guessing he was referring to the Summit and Breakaway)

My daughter is fine, a seasoned cruiser who is just happy to be on the ship and enjoying every minute. She is looking forward to 70's night and the Quest tonight.

I can just imagine what people will post when they return home! Personally I am very happy that Royal is making sure their passengers are safe. Safety is the number one priority! :)
