  1. When added by the establishment, the service fee is likely more than 10%. It seems the common suggestion is 10% to 15%. I'm OK leaving 10% but probably would not have them remove a service fee to accomplish that. What I honestly don't understand are the number of Brits I encounter who complain about tipping in American restaurants.
  2. Thanks. That is what I do. It probably doesn't seem often to a local. As a tourist in London I'm tipping every time I eat in a restaurant. I'm pretty used to that from home.
  3. We have done exactly that! Kids liked it better I think. To your original question, I agree with the previous comments that you won't get a single table of 20. We do a lot of large group cruises. Always two or more tables in proximity to each other.
  4. I see. So, next time I'm in your country, should I or should I not provide tips when expected?
  5. Yep, and absolutely needed for folks who don't have the app.
  6. Most countries have some sort of tipping customs now.. Are we to blame for them all?
  7. I bought for my brother-in-law during our last two cruises (one Carnival and one Princess). Both had a 4 for 3 deal, meaning 4 cartons of marlboros for $150. We spread them out among our traveling companions. Does anyone know what duty fee would apply if the extra 3 cartons were declared?
  8. X2 - it will be a 2024 renewal for us. I hope this is up and running.
  9. If the local custom is to tip, I tip. If local custom is not to tip, I don't tip (even when they put their hand out). Seems the number of places where tipping isn't customary is shrinking.
  10. Soccer jerseys, well in my case T-shirts with national teams. They had them on sale on a past RCI cruise. Both France and England wore out and went to the rag bin. Mexico is still going strong after all these years.
  11. I think what you were told is baloney. If there is a cabin available they can move you. We once had a situation with equipment noises in our cabin and were moved within an hour of asking. I would go back and ask again to be moved.
  12. Same here. I pack to within half a pound of the weight limit.
  13. Same for Island this past October. Cereals in a dispenser. I didn't see any of the boxes. When I get an urge for cornflakes with sliced banana, nothing can stop me! haha.
  14. Last thing I want is to be reminded of the dentist chair during my cruise! 😁😁😁
  15. If I ever get to go again, at Queensferry I would happily opt for the shuttle. Those steps up the hill to the train station were a PITA (and I was a heck of a lot younger then).
  16. We were on a carnival cruise earlier this year. This had me baffled too. I skipped desert in the MDR specifically because I had seen the desert options at the buffet during lunch. I was very disappointed that the dinner time offering didn't compare.
  17. Amazing to you because you knew this. I just learned something new. Thanks!
  18. Yep, strawberry rhubarb pie is OK. IMO, it would be even better if it was just strawberry pie. Thankfully, modern medicine means I don't need rhubarb. 😀
  19. Your question is already answered. I am just going to add that your upcoming cruise is among my favorite itineraries. Enjoy!
  20. Only if I have to in order to not cause offense. Same for rhubarb. Lol.
  21. Two currently booked. One of those in less than a week. The second one is at the end of a country-hopping land tour.
  22. Even then it is "iffy", Haha. I think most of my dislike is related to being forced to eat it as a kid.
  23. I don't know. Maybe this is an unpopular opinion. Maybe a wrong opinion. I just can't see leaving leftover food or drink as a tip to staff. It just seems awkward to me. The following is not the same, but thought I would share. We were once at a table where a guy ordered an extra serving. When the plate was delivered to the table he said it was for the wait person. The waiter expressed thanks, but the look on his face said something entirely different. What the guy was thinking, I don't know.
