  1. I wish them well.  And I know they have considered all.  But to home port in Bermuda would be somewhat of a logistical mess I would think.  Provisioning from Bermuda would be expensive since everything in Bermuda already is and everything arrives there by air or boat.   Also, 2000 (or how many passengers arriving at Bermuda on mostly the same day and needing to depart on the same day, assuming they don't stay over, flights.  If I'm reading the Bermuda airport daily flight schedule correctly, they have from 2 to maybe 6 or 7 airline flights a day.  For the cruise needs, it would take between 7 to  10 extra flights, mostly arriving and then departing the same day to handle a normal ship guest capacity.  Again, guess they got it figured out.

  2. This is Disney's, not NCL's CEO this week giving a projection on when the "maybe" will be now.  If that's what Disney thinks, all of these cruise lines are in the same boat (yes, intended) for US sailings.  This seems like a much more honest answer than the month by month canceling that we are getting from the others.  From today's paper financial section.

Watching the news, it's much more than the virus spreading.  The "kids" are far beyond spring break fun now.  They are pretty much rioting as they wish...in the name of just having fun of course, to which they are entitled.  Of course........

I see Miami  called up SWAT teams to help the young persons contain their enthusiasm a bit.  That's just not fair.

  4. "I don't know when cruise will again be resuming...but I guarantee the approval for that won't be done by me....in case something then goes wrong.  There needs to be someone else to blame then, and I just don't know who to pass the buck to yet.  Nobody else is wanting to take that chance either.  So I am just kinda making this up as I go along. But I value your input. Thanks for asking."

Officials in Miami have declared a state of emergency after huge crowds gathered on beaches to celebrate spring break.
We have the same problem in London, and we are in lockdown, looking like forever now!!

  6. As mentioned, I think it is too early to find any menus other than the old ones.  On the small ships, theater seating was always easy.  I would arrive in the theater 30 minutes before the show, drink in hand, and practically all seats were still available.  I would pic a good middle row, sit back, people watch, and let the show begin.  The reserved seats are always upper level and off to the side.  Wouldn't want one of those.  Breakfast and lunch at Modernos (or Cagneys sometimes) is available for suite guests.  Otherwise whether you eat at the specialty restaurants is dependent on whether you have a package or pay to do so.  However, your butler will serve you in you room if you wish if you have the specialty restaurant choice.    The Dawn is a nice ship.  Back when...when there was actual cruising, her crew was great.

  7. Reading again today about the RCL plan to cruise out of the Bahamas, just doesn't sound like a fun cruise yet for me.  Testing is required within 5 days of arriving in the Bahamas and again once arriving.  Then on the ship everyone vaccinated (I like that), masks, testing and temp checks.  The cruise hits Cozumel and the RCL island.   Now I wonder if someone tests positive on board (even though that person is protected from symptoms), how will you get off the ship and what then happens.  Quarantined in the Bahamas, denied air travel back home, arrival in the US having tested positive?   Still just way too many issues for a comfortable cruise....for me.

  8. Europe is looking like bad news again with the virus.  Today's news for France and several other countries, they are heading toward shutdown again.   The new variants are taking off quickly.  Fortunately, the vaccines seem to be working pretty good with them still.  Germany said today that EU does not have enough vaccine to stop a new outbreak.  We've still got a long way to go I'm afraid.

  9. Whenever cruises finally resume, I will not be booking the first few.  I've got to see how they are conducted as far as Covid protocol.  I just can't do it with masks and social distancing.  Vaccine, yes.  No buffet, I'll miss it but would still cruise.  Restricted type port stops, no ability to wander freely, nope can't do.  No personal interaction with the crew, nope.  So will just have to wait for a few to sail and see.

One of our favorite stops. Beaches are gorgeous. I don't think we would enjoy spending more than a couple of days there though

I understand they are.  But I just can't be a "fun in the sun" kinda guy anymore since I spend so much time at my dermatologist now....because of too much fun in the sun through the previous years.

  11. This is the Getaway deck 8 big balcony mini suite.   They are big.  However, I felt kinda claustrophobic on it.  Unless you are sitting right up at the rail, the partitions block your view both left and right.  I actually didn't care for them.  However, the regular balconies on those ships are tiny.

Have a little faith. I know bad news reigns in more fear than good news brings hope. The media doesn't want hope because they are profiting tremendously from fear-mongering. I can only speak from a US perspective because I don't have info worldwide. Right now we have Moderna, Pfizer, and J&J. AZ is a garbage vaccine comparatively and no nation should approve them. Novavax released trial data to the EU (I think that is where it was) with efficacy higher than all currently approved and immunity results just as high in the variants. I hope the FDA gives EUA approval for Novavax as well. That will put the supply of vaccines above what is required to vaccinate everyone in the US over 16 by the end of June.

Where we have a real problem is people taking it. It is time to start playing hardball in the US. The government cannot force one to take the vaccine, but they can force quarantining until it is over. This can be done by freezing accounts, forced locked down in home, banning living in multi-family facilities (apartments and such), use of public facilities, requiring proof of vaccination to enter grocery stores. There is a lot that can be done. If covid is as serious as shutting the country down for 12+ months, we can shift to Marshall control of those that refuse to end it.

Wow!  Now there is an exciting look at a new US Civil War.   Also, the Associated Press today reported that Europe has less than 5% fully vaccinated at this time.  Hoping to have 70% done by end of June.   The ships aren't going anywhere soon.

  13. I love the Pearl.  But I wouldn't stay in a Jewel class Haven if it was a free upgrade.  The little courtyard and pool, small.  The whole thing is claustrophobic  to me.  On the Pearl just select one of the suites, same breakfast and lunch options, and closer to the rest of the ship's activities.

  14. I unfortunately am beginning to think you're right, at least for any type cruising I would like.  With so many here refusing the vaccines (paper today said almost 50% of Republicans and even 30% of Democrats, the majority of prison guards, the many countries refusing the now rejected vaccine based on 40 blood clots among the 11,000,000 injected, our mask mandate removed yesterday, on and on), not going to happen as quick as it sure could.  The only possible way, vaccine required to board a cruise ship and no port stops.  I guess we'll see.

  15. Crystal Cruise Lines has announced 7 day crises out of the Bahamas starting in July.  However, check out the conditions.  Not for me.

Crystal Serenity will operate with a number of new anti-coronavirus protocols including social distancing rules, mask mandates and health screenings, the line said. The ship also will operate at a reduced capacity, and all passengers will be required to have been fully inoculated with a COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days prior to boarding the vessel.

The sailings will be available to book starting on March 18. Fares will start at $1,999 per passenger.

  16. Wear one or don't wear one, your choice....except where mandated.  But if you aren't absolutely positive that you aren't infected, don't go breathing on anyone else.  You can kill them.  And....my neighbors just two houses down, both died from Covid last week, just two days apart.  Yes, they were old.  But dead regardless.
