  1. Prebooking is highly recommended (I.e., required). Exactly 90 days prior to your cruise (100 in you are in a full suite). Popular restaurants will sell out. NCL holds tables for onboard booking, but prime time dining will sell out onboard too.

Specialty dining reservations do not sell out prior to the cruise. I forgot the exact percentage but I believe they only book 30% of the reservations prior to the cruise.

There's nothing to call NCL about. That can just cause confusion. The info is available on the web site.

By the way, if you were responding to the OP, they asked the question nearly a year and a half ago, so I assume they have the answer by now. :)

The information posted here is not only to provide the OP with answers to their question but also to give information to all Cruise Critic members reading the posts here who may have actually sought out this information through a search. So it's actually good to answer a question even if it was asked one year ago if it was not adequately or accurately answered in the past.

  2. Ship - Norwegian Dawn

    Deck - 9

    Stateroom # - 9208

    Stateroom Category – Handicapped-accessible balcony

Starboard or Port Side - starboard

Quiet Stateroom? Yes (With comments on problems) –

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - no

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – no obstructions.

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Huge. It was equipped with two chairs and one small table but the cabin steward brought us an additional table upon request. If available the balcony was large enough to accommodate two loungers.

Was wind a problem? - no

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - N/A

Any specific problems with this cabin? - no. The cabin was almost twice the width of a standard balcony with plenty of storage except in the bathroom where the lack of a counter and cabinet for the sink causes less space for toiletries. The shower was large and contrary to some complaints that I had read online we had no problem with water spreading Beyond the shower drains which encircle the shower.

Any other comments? - The cabin was equipped with two twin size beds (convertible to a queen) which headboarded on the same side of the room as the bathroom. Opposite the beds was a Bistro dining set with two padded arm chairs. There was a upper bunk folded up against the wall which would allow the cabin to be occupied by three persons. We loved this spacious comfortable cabin. It was located close to the elevator which was excellent due to my difficulty walking.

  3. https://www.avvo.com/legal-answers/is-it-legal-to-have-pills-outside-of-the-prescript-1674902.html

This is the best that I can give you. AVVO is a trusted lawyer site.

But I am not a lawyer. I am on the medicine side. It's not my expertise to cite you the statute. It is my job to prevent my pts from dying and understanding how to transport their medication that m clinic prescribes for them.

This link is no longer active and does not lead you to any information concerning carrying of prescription drugs. To put this in perspective if you removed the medication from one of your prescription bottles and refilled it with a different medication this would be no different then carrying the medication in a ziplock baggie. Unless it is a controlled substance I can't imagine that it would be any worse to carry medication in a weekly medication planner and maybe have a print out from your doctor showing your current ordered prescriptions so that if there is ever a question they can identify the medication and prove it is on your list. The exception to this is controlled substances. There are dogs who can smell these. Carry any controlled substance in the original container and be aware that container had better indicate that the medication was ordered for you and not another person.

All this being said to avoid any delays or questions I went ahead and carried most of my medications in prescription bottles with the original printed prescription. But I don't think it would matter most of the time.

  4. Bring your meds in their actual prescription bottles. I have never had anything but I would rather be safe than sorry. Once you settle into your cabin, then you could transfer them into your container. I do this all the time.

I would have to bring a separate suitcase just for my medicine if I did that. Instead I have put my medications into pill holders except for anything that is controlled. Any Controlled Substances I have left in their original prescription containers.

  5. Again, you are calling the WRONG person. The Concierge does not handle the certificates. At home, you don't call the tire department for eyeglasses.

In all fairness, at home if I called the tire department and asked for eyeglasses they would inform me that I had the wrong department and transfer me to the correct department. They would not try to tell me I didn't qualify for eyeglasses!

  6. Some family down the hall complained on arrival day that the beds aren't made upon their arrival. The steward kept saying, "Everything will be done around 6-7pm." The dude got pissed and said, "What I paid all this and can't even have a nap for the first few hours?"

Sometimes room stewards will let you drop off your bags even though the room is not ready so that you don't have to carry them with you to lunch but I would be really shocked if a cruise line did not have the dirty Linens from the previous Cruise removed from the room and the bed made up with fresh Linens before allowing passengers to fully occupied the room. This is usually completed a long time before 7 p.m.! On the other hand if it was just a matter of the beds being separated or put together in a different configuration then it would not matter as the person could easily take a nap with the bed in either configuration.

  7. First day on a cruise out of New Orleans, 4 of the 6 of us are sitting at the dinner table, and the last two arrive. An English lady from Carlisle complains about the two remaining seats at the table "Oh I don't want to sit there and look out the window, because I don't like being on boats" (If you've seen the movie Chicken Run, it didn't help that she sounded like Mrs Tweedy)

OMG, she just flew how far to be on a boat and the first words out of her mouth were "I don't like being on boats!!!". Her poor husband seemed nice enough, but completely hen-pecked.

Of course throughout the cruise there were complaints about the food every night, including sending back some Prime Rib because there was just a hint of pink in the middle "It's not cooked!", and one that sticks in my mind "I don't like garlic in my mashed potato". She would come to dinner and order a burger <sigh>.

This meant war, and I went out of my way to order things I knew would offend her, such as rare steaks, and Escargot. "Wow aren't these snails EXCELLENT!"

I'm sort of curious? Was this woman supposed to eat her prime rib overly rare for her tastes to make you happy? I have no problem with people requesting crisper bacon or that the steak be more well done. As long as they do so politely they certainly have every right to have their food the way they like it. Nice thing about Norwegian Cruise line is that you are typically eating only with your own group. So if you must return a food item for additional cooking only your family are waiting for you to finish eating. Personally I wouldn't want to take the time to send something back. I ordered some prime rib medium on a recent Cruise and it came out from the kitchen still mooing. My boyfriend's prime rib was perfect and the serving size was much bigger than either of us needed so we just shared and I left the poor bleeding cow on my plate untouched.

  8. Just a heads up if your thinking of using the spa for acupuncture. We were told that the people who did acupuncture were doctors and we're certified. We told them our insurance company covered acupuncture if it was performed by qualified people. We were assured they were qualified. My wife took two treatments at a cost of 177 dollars each. Upon our return we submitted these bills to our insurance company. They would not cover them. I called the company that contracts the spa and received little support. They said their people were qualified. I asked for proof. They send me a certificate in chinese. Just a warning if you want to use insurance.

HaHaHa! You thought a physician would do an office visit and a procedure for only $177? Most offices would charge that much for a physician just to walk into the room and say hi. The overhead alone to practice medicine would cost too much to allow that pricing. The ship charges that much even to get a massage and a facial!

  9. Things will get stolen if your not watching and protecting your valuables. You alone are responsible for your personal possessions. Don't blame cruise staff or the cruise line if your valuables get stolen. Crimes of opportunity, don't give any opportunities.

I agree! I don't usually carry even a camera because I already have so many pictures that are similar after many cruises. I wear my sail & Sign card on a lanyard around my neck and carry no other cash. At the end of the cruise I go around the ship and give tips to bartenders and other staff who performed above and beyond.

  10. Spice H2O is aft most on deck 17.

VIBE is deck 19 starboard side just behind the Haven sundeck.

If you like a lot of noise and action then you should go to the spice H2O. But if you simply want a place with hot tubs and loungers always available where you are served cooled water with fruit infused in it and of course served your drinks if you want to order something. If you have the universal beverage package you can ask them for anything. But basically it's for relaxing and lounging and soaking in the whirlpool hot tub rather than for partying.

  11. President Trump just said on the news that they will be allowing group Travel to Cuba but will be limiting individuals visits due to human rights violations of Cuba. Mr. Trump also wants Assurance from the Cuba regime that money received from tourists will not be funneled to their military and oppression of their citizens. He's trying to be moderate because there are some businesses that have already invested in the Cuba tourism Market and he's not trying to harm American businesses but he also feels compelled to do something to respond to the severe human rights violations that take place daily under the Cuba regime. It's a difficult balance since President Obama complicated the issue with his one-sided gifts to the Cuban regime.

  12. How would you compare the NCL card to other, more generic cards for travelling? I was looking into the Discover Miles card, which seems like a good one. Is it better to get something like that so you can redeem it on any line instead of getting a card for a specific line and just using it for cruises through them?

If you use the card only for non Norwegian Cruise Line purchases and have no desire to achieve Rewards related to the cruise line then I would definitely choose a different card. But for me the Norwegian MasterCard is a good choice. I earned most of the 30,000 points I recently used purchasing Norwegian Cruises so I received triple points on every dollar spent. I would say about 20,000 of the thirty thousand points were due to NCL purchases so the dollar amount was actually more like $6900. So that means my total spending was about $17000 for which I received all of the items I bought during that time plus 30,000 points. I just used those 30,000 points to upgrade from a $749pp Ocean View to a $1399pp balcony. So my 30,000 points ended up being worth $1,300 for me. This is a 7.6% return! Of course you have to save points for quite awhile to get up to the 30,000 mark required for a meta upgrade. The rewards requiring smaller points total are more of a 1.5 to 2% return.

  13. Message received, thanks for posting. I'm not selecting fluorescent green as my font color but a green that reminded me of blackboard green or if you are a sports car nut, BRG. On my desktop monitor, the color is correct. You're the first member to comment.

Out of desire to be able to read your posts I've actually been clicking on them as if I were going to respond so that I can see them in black and white to read them. Your posts are very good but I have great difficulty reading them in the green. Thanks for the change to Blue!

  14. There are Transportation Passes. For tourists, there are 3 options: 1 day, 2 day & 3 day (costs $19, $31.50 & $44, respectively). These are for an individual and can not be shared. 1 & 2 day passes are sold at the Dockyard. The 3 day pass is sold in Hamilton and St George.

Also available to pay for fares on the public buses and ferried are tickets. They are sold in 15 ticket booklets (cost $37.50) which can be shared. Every time you board a public bus or ferry, you pay one ticket fare. The ticket booklet is sold in Hamilton.

    So what are your plans?

All of your posts are in bright fluorescent green which rather than being more noticeable and easy to read is actually almost impossible to read. May I suggest changing to a nice black font?

  15. I always got the pass when docked in Hamilton and St. George's. I didn't care if it was cost effective. Not once was it cost effective, it was for convenience. I bought them the first one or two few times at the Dockyard. But after they took off the "Special" buses to the beach I got tired of waiting for buses, and standing for 35 minutes on some buses. Not being able to get on full buses and waiting 20 minutes for the next bus. Also broken AC on some. So I don't get them anymore when at the Dockyard. I take the Minibus to the beach. And use tokens for the ferry to Hamilton and St. George's. If I was on the Veendam which docks in Hamilton I likely would buy a transportation pass.

What is the mini bus? Where does it take you and how much does it cost?
