  1. If people keep removing their DSC, will NCL eventually put them on their NO Cruise List? Just a thought

You may wish that were the case but I suspect if someone is paying them $5000 per person for their cruise they will probably forgive them for removing their DSC! I’m sure they will think the person is an ass but they’ll still let them cruise!

  2. I just love this site! Thanks to you guys I have ordered biodegradable environmentally friendly straws and water Proof pouches for my cell phone and credit cards. No telling how many more things you guys will give me the idea to order before my cruise!

  3. I wonder how long it will be before the only straws allowed onboard are re-usable. NCL stopped providing straws for what they believe is a valid reason. Allowing plastic straws to be carried on by guests defeats the purpose. Doesn't it?

I would suspect that if NCL realizes that straws are important to their customers they will start supplying a biodegradable straw in each drink. As these become more widely used the price will decrease.

  4. Thank you again. I went online to the card and found rewards. It gave me the option to put on my statement or get a check. It was $82 instead of the $100 I was told the obc would be, but I’m happy.. found money!

If you had 10,000 points it should have been a $100 statement credit. I would have questioned it.

  5. I compulsively clean. I hate returning from a trip thinking I have to clean the house. Day before I change sheets, leave myself fresh towels, etc. helps ease the post cruise blues, and uses up nervous energy pre cruise.

I always clean before any trip and also before any surgical or special procedure. I have this hidden fear that something might happen and people will see my house looking messy. I can’t imagine why it would even matter what my house looks like if I don’t survive a surgery but I’m sort of a compulsive neat freak so even when I’m in heaven someday, I don’t want anyone to see my house dirty!

  6. When it gets this close—less than a month away—I’m so ready to go that I keep looking for ways to prepare. So far I’ve set aside all my clothes and toiletries and bought a minifan recommended here and compostable plastic straws.

Keep me off Amazon! Tell me what else I can do, like downloading music on my iPad last night, that won't cost anything but keep my cruise compulsion satisfied!

You think your a planner? Dear you have NO idea!!! By the time I’m done you will find yourself bowing to the master planner! My cruise isn’t until September 16th but I have purchased precruise hotel, airfare, Cruise, spoke with all of these to arrange in advance approval for my mobility scooter’s lithium ion batteries, investigated and purchased tours for each port of call for my cruise, scheduled dinner reservations for three specialty dining and two dinner shows, scheduled reservations for two evening shows, have planned my daily itinerary for each day of my cruise, Have a packing list indicating not only what I am bringing but into which suitcase items will go, and I have begun gathering my usual cruisewear into the guestroom closet in preparation for future packing. I never actually pack until the day before the cruise but I always make sure everything I’m taking has been laundered, ironed, and checked for any needed repairs. Oh and we mustn’t forget the jewelry and accessories, medications and first aid, documents, electronics and charging cables for various electronics, Toiletries, purses, shoes, and swimwear.

  7. This post is not helpful and someone standing on their soapbox. Geesh. People.

I was really glad I came across this topic because I was totally unaware that they had banned use of straws. At my last cruise in October 2017 they were still sticking a straw in every single drink. I appreciate being alerted because I really do like to have a straw to drink frozen drinks with. Because of the information I was able to go online and find an environmentally safe alternative. 60726432e1d1a92bd668132688b94ee5.jpg

    Thanks for the heads up!

  8. Ultimately the “daily service charge” ends up being an important part of the employees pay. I would not cancel this unless service had been universally bad in all departments but if a particular room steward, bar tender, or waiter gives really great service then I give them a cash handshake at the end of the cruise. No one sees that palmed $20 and the employee doesn’t have to share it with a thousand other people.

  9. On my first Sky cruise I remember that the server let us know how much we can order at the start of the service for Cagney's. I believe we were able to order 2 appetizers 1 entree and a dessert. But that was 2 years ago. I don't remember that happening last year.

I guess I will find out this year.

According to the Norwegian Cruise line site the dining package only limits you to one entrée but does not limit your side dishes, appetizers, or desserts. Below I have quoted the terms and conditions of the dining package:

“The Ultimate Dining Package allows for 3 nights of specialty restaurant dining and applies to the 1st and 2nd guests. Packages are based on a per meal basis. Any Harvest Caye bars, restaurnats, or venues, Food Republic, The Bake Shop, Ice Cream Bar, Gelato, specialty items in the Asian restaurant, Special Occasion/Holiday menus (New Year's, Christmas, etc.), Jazz Brunch, Wine Lovers and Murder Mystery lunches, and beverages are not included as part of the Specialty Dining Packages. You may choose to dine in the following venues as part of your Specialty Dining Package for the corresponding upcharges: The Supper Club ($15), For the Record ($15), Ocean Blue ($15), Bayamo ($15), Cirque Dreams and Illusionarium ($10 regular seats/$15 premium seats/$35 VIP seating on Breakaway), Sushi Bar ($7), Pincho Tapas Bar ($7), and Raw Bar ($7). Specialty Dining Packages include one main course per person at Cagney's and Le Bistro restaurants. Additional main courses will be charged at the a la carte price listed on the menu. There is no minimum or maximum to the number of meals that can be redeemed in a day, however each meal is counted towards the package. Guest is responsible for 18% gratuities on the retail value of the Specialty Dining Package prior to cruise.”

If you notice it specifically states that only 1 Entrée is covered but it makes no mention of excluding coverage of side dishes, extra appetizers or extra desserts. On the other hand the platinum latitudes dinners at le bistro or Cagney’s specifically state that only one appetizer, one entrée, and one dessert are covered. Maybe that’s what your waiter or waitress were thinking when they told you that.

  10. I have been a big fan of NCL but not so much right now. On our recent cruise through the Panama we were assure that NCL would cruise from Vancouver to Tokyo in 2019 (and although the cruise was available for booking we were even given a date that the cruise would depart). It turns out that none of it is true and NCL isn't sailing to Tokyo from Vancouver. We purchased credits for the Tokyo cruise (then on to Singapore) based on what we were told. Now NCL is using a clause in the Next Cruise contract and refusing to refund our deposit. To my way of think this is very dishonest. Does anyone have any suggestions?

OK if I understand you correctly you were interested in cruising from your home area in Vancouver to Tokyo in 2017. You were told on a cruise in April 2017 that you could buy a cruise next certificate and use it for the cruise to tokyo. You discovered after the purchase that NCL was not going to have a cruise to Tokyo from Vancouver. I assume that NCL originally planned to have the cruise to Tokyo from Vancouver. I understand your disappointment but if you have always been a fan of NCL I don’t see a problem here. If you are a fan then you will very likely cruise again and be able to use that cruise next certificate for your future cruise. I don’t know if you purchased one $250 certificate for $150 or whether you purchased two $250 certificates for $250 but either way you got a good deal if you plan to cruise on Norwegian again! If you don’t plan to cruise on Norwegian again I’m really surprised that you would plan such an important trip as traveling to Tokyo on an international trip with the cruise line you don’t like! If you have buyers remorse rest assured you can sell those cruise next certificates on the internet for more than you paid for them!

  11. Here is a link. I would also consider Mr Sanchos all inclusive for $45 PP on line.

    http://www.cozumel-watersports.com/excursions/playamiadaypass.html

I would definitely recommend Mr. Sanchos too! I’m going to try the playa mia deluxe beach break next cruise because I received the Port charges discount as one of my perks and use of that lowers the price of the playa mia deluxe beach break to only $26.50. Mr Sanchos costs $45 + $10- $15 each way for cab fare to Mr Sanchos location. If you share the ride you can cut transportation costs to as low as $5 each way but thats still $55 instead of the $26.50 I’m paying NCL.

  12. I'm assuming that since you say you looked on the "back" of the "cable", that there is more to it than just an electrical cord. Is there a "power brick" like a laptop computer has? If so, just show that the charger is part of the wheelchair (same manufacturer, or model shown) and there should be no problem. Also, contact special needs ahead of time to let them know you are bringing a power wheelchair and that you are concerned that someone may deny your charger, and get something in writing. Does the cord have a two prong plug or a three prong plug? If it is two prong, there is no possibility that it is surge protected, as a surge protected device needs a connection to the ground wire. Further, I would put the charger in some type of carry bag and have it on the wheelchair on embarkation to show it is part of the chair, and they probably won't question a thing. You will also be there to discuss it, rather than having to go to security afterwards to get your bag if it is in a checked bag.

The charging cable is 3 pronged but the batteries cannot be charged with any other cord.

  13. That's my go-to. Last year we sailed the weekend that butted up against Christmas (disembarkation was 12/24) and this year we are sailing right after Thanksgiving (embarkation 11/25). It also seems like practically anytime in January (aside from New Year's) seem to be the cheapest time to sail, IMO. September can be cheap in the Caribbean as well, but you're rolling a dice as that's the heart of hurricane season.

For the past three years I’ve cruised every October which is also still hurricane season and I haven’t had any problems. It does seem to rain more often but I have not encountered any bad storms. The ships are pretty good about changing their route and even their Ports if they need to in order to avoid a hurricane. Some people seem to get upset when an island is canceled but it doesn’t bother me because I appreciate the cruise line protecting my health and safety.

  14. The only time I ever decreased gratuities on a cruise was when at every aspect of the cruise I was presented with poor service. The room steward, the dining staff, everybody! But even then we only decreased our gratuities by 50%. We feel that 10% is bare minimum even if service is poor. But we feel 20% is indicated if service is good so we give at least 10% and if indicated tip additional.

  15. I'm booked on as a solo traveller and have a few questions! I booked directly with NCL and have an all inclusive package which includes the Ultimate Drinks Package and gratuities. I understand that at the restaurants not part of the package there is an additional supplement + taxes. Can anyone please let me know if my included gratuities package applies to these restaurants too or do I have to factor in the cost of this? Also, is there a hairdryer in the studio cabins?

No, Your gratuities package would not include covering the gratuities for the specialty dining. You have the choice of purchase of a specialty dining package or of paying al la cart and being responsible for your own tips. You need to decide which choice is best for you.

  16. I was asked to look at this product on another thread, and quickly found that the photos show wording on the label on the back mentioning "vpr" (voltage protection rating), which is a measure of surge protection. The poster who asked about this, contacted "Cruise On", and they claimed that the "advertising copy was incorrect, and would be fixed", but that was weeks ago, and the ad copy still shows this wording. So, I have my doubts that this is actually not surge protected, and the "VPR" on the back would tip sharp screeners that this is in fact surge protected.

I don’t see vpr listed on the back of the charging cables for my wheel chair but I’m concerned if there is any reason the cruise line could reject use of the charging cable of my wheelchair.

  17. We get the cruise line's credit card, use it to pay off the cruise and other monthly bills (never carrying a balance). Once the cruise is paid off, we put it away. But on average, we earn $300-$500 onboard credit. Pays for our gratuities, drinks and photos. Costs us nothing so we come out ahead and we never have a balance due onboard [emoji3] [i started doing that after our first NCL cruise when I realized how much they ding you onboard LOL]

I don’t use the card for onboard credit. I either cash in my points for cash off my credit card balance or if I build up 30,000 points I’ll use it as an upgrade from Oceanview to balcony. Every dollar spent on Norwegian counts as double points so rather than using my points to purchase onboard credit I pay for my purchases on board using my Norwegian credit card. I get double points for all the purchases on board and use those points to pay off the card. Every 5000 points ($2500 in NCL purchases or $5000 in other purchases) gets you $50 statement credit. If you purchase onboard credit to pay for your on board purchases then you don’t get any points for those points! Another way I save is by purchasing “cruise next” certificates. Each certificate is worth $250 off the price of one of your future cruises. If you purchase two of these certificates you only have to pay $250 instead of $500 for both of them. If you purchase only one of the certificates it will cost you only $150 for that certificate. If you cruise frequently it’s easy to use two of them before they expire 18 months later. Since I use my NCL credit card to purchase those 2 certificates I am not only saving $250 on a future cruise, I also receive 500 points for that $250 purchase. So you might say NCL is paying me $505 for a $250 purchase.
