1. Bending and scratching are the real issues, although hot tub? I would not! And magnets as the other reply points out!

I discovered the ease of using lanyards in 2012. Since then I’ve used them to hang my sail & sign card WITH A HOLE IN IT from on 20 cruises and I have never had a problem!

  2. you can order each morning but I would simply hang the little card on the door before going to bed. That way the coffee will be there when you want it.

The problem with that is that on sea days the time I want coffee is whenever I happen to wake up spontaneously. I don’t want to have to set an alarm clock on sea days. So I think what the OP is asking is how long is the wait if you order as soon as you wake up. I would have to answer that it varies greatly! I’ve had coffee arrive in only 20 minutes after calling in the order but I have also had the coffee never arrive! The coffee supplied in the cabins with the Little single serve coffee maker is horrible so if you intend to use it bring some Folgers instant coffee and use that instead of the coffee that is supplied!

  3. The beds are not always on the same side of the cabin as you enter the door. In most cabins, but not necessarily the suites, the bathroom is on the same side as the beds.

Thanks for the courteous answer. From my memory I could not remember ever having a room other than in the haven that had the bathroom on the opposite side of the room from the bed but I couldn’t remember for sure.

  4. First Time on NCL.. We will be sailing on the Bliss next year. and I see there are specialty restaurant plans that we can purchase before sailing to use. Last cruise was on Carnival and we ate at the steak house & the Chef's Table .. and had a great meal .. I am trying to decide if you think these packages are worth the money ??? Or should we just stick to the free dining ?

My favorites are Teppanyaki, Cagney’s, and Le Bistro in that order. I’ve gone to the Chefs table on Carnival and it was fun but the food was not as good as any of my 3 favorites!

  5. It depends on whether you are lying on your back or front.

    Yes. Except when it isn't.

I don’t really need the sarcasm. I’m trying to visualize the room that I will have on my upcoming cruise. I would appreciate an answer to my original question. Is the bed going to be on my right as I walk into the room or on my left. And also whether the bathroom is on the same side of the room as the bed or not. My room is on the starboard side of the ship.

  6. Seems that it isn’t consistent. Cannot hurt to ask....asking is free!

And sometimes when one person says no it’s actually valuable to call a different person. I booked a balcony for my next cruise and although it was not a sale away category because they were low on rooms I had to except a guarantee room. Problem with this was that I need an accessible room in order to fit my mobility scooter through the door. I called and asked NCL for an accessible room and the girl told me that I would have to pay $200 more to book a family balcony instead of regular balcony because that’s the category of room that still had accessible cabins available. Keep in mind the only difference between the family balconies and the regular balconies is which floor they are on. Indeed I would normally not even want to be on the same floor as tons of screaming kids. The next day I called the accessibility desk and the man there that there said there are plenty of accessible balcony cabins! He proceeded to assign me to one right then and there. Now it is true that I was not permitted to just pick my room. But at least I was assigned to a room that I could actually get into with my scooter and go to bed at night! So it all worked out great! Ultimately the cruise line is not trying to piss off their customers. If it is possible to make you happy without any loss of revenue on their part then they will do it!

  7. So, I buy a beverage package, and pre pay gratuities before cruise @ $14.50 US per day pp. All paid up!? so I don't have to worry about a day by day accrual. My question is When I order my first drink or eat out at speciality dining, do I incure another amount of gratuities on my cocktail, or specialty dining or does my prePaid gratuities cover me for the cruise?

Your gratuities for the promo packages were included in your total cruise fare. The $14.50/day covers your daily service fee (DSF). If you purchase a dining package or drink package they will at the same time charge you the gratuities on the package. If you purchase dinner at a restaurant (not a package) or if you purchase a drink at a bar (not a package) you would be charged at the time of that dinner or drink for both the purchased item and for gratuity. Unrelated to this is the tax. The taxes on the total cruise is included with your cruise fare when you pay for the cruise. If you order a drink whether it is covered by a promo package or not you will be charged tax for that drink if you are still with in the jurisdiction of an American port. You will not have to pay taxes on your drink if you are in international waters or at foreign port.

  8. No one ever mentioned alcohol or bleach.

RD28P5 said she brings bleach wipes to kill noro virus on surfaces to which you said that wipes wont kill viruses and she said yes the bleach wipes will. I am a physician and RD28P5 is correct that bleach can kill viruses but while some noro virus is spread by fomites (surface of objects), much is spread hand to hand and the alcohol solution at dinning room entries is not effective at killing noro. Washing with soap and water would be helpful but they can’t very well place a sink with hot water and Disinfectant soap at the entrance to every dining room! We can only hope that everybody on board washes their hands thoroughly with soap and hot water every time they visit the restroom and before every meal.

  9. I was under the impression that I could get 10% account credit or cash back because I had received 10% in the past but I discovered that I only get 10% if I’m cashing in 25,000 points or greater. They only give 5% cash back if you cash in less than 25000 points.

  10. What was her story? How did it happen?

Since the woman has not claimed to have been thrown overboard by another person and since it is impossible to accidentally fall off a cruise ship that leaves two possibilities. #1) she was drunk and got the goofy idea to do a titanic pose from the top of the railing or #2) she intentionally jumped from the cruise ship as a suicide attempt but after hitting the water changed her mind and vigorously treaded water until rescued. If she was drunk enough to do something that crazy then she probably would not have survived being in the water for 10 hours as people are more susceptible to hypothermia after drinking alcohol. So the authorities need to have her evaluated by a psychiatrist because she may still be actively suicidal despite her change of mind in the water!

  11. Unless something has changed since November, NCL doesn’t use proximity or chip cards... It’s all mag stripe for everything.

Thats why I use a lanyard with magnetic closure and card with hole attached so I can just pull the whole thing off my neck very easily when it needs to be scanned. Rest assured the folks at the info desk know exactly where to punch the hole. Indeed they are the ones who make you a new card if it malfunctions for any reason.

  12. Just keep those magnets away from your car keys.

I didn’t know magnets affected car keys but I do know that they will mess up your room sail and sign card. I have a purse with a magnetic closure and it kept on messing up my card and causing it to be unable to open the room door. I now wear my sail and sign card on a lanyard around my neck so that it does not become demagnetized.

  13. I like to take wrinkle release spray. I had my iron sent to the naughty room, about five cruises ago, so I had to find an alternative. I am freakish about wrinkles in my clothes, so this does the trick!

If you give your room steward a call they will bring you an iron and ironing board to use and then they’ll take it away about four hours later.

  14. Power strip that os UL certified but not a surge suppressor. Bring extra hangers.

Extra hangers just take up space in the suitcase so I just ask the room steward for extra hangers instead! Oops! I just noticed this is a duplicate post!

  15. I don’t understand why anyone would pay for anything at the Harvest Caye pool. Why even go ashore to go to a pool and pay high prices for drinks and food when you can stay on board ship and have the pool and hot tubs all to yourself and the drinks and food are free!

  16. Last night was our Platinum dinner in Le Bistro. Unlike the Specialty Dining Package, the Platinum certificate restricts you to one Appetizer, one entree and one dessert (1-1-1). But, also give you a bottle of wine off of the Platinum wine list.

Thank you for taking so much time out of your vacation to create this wonderful blog! Will they allow you to take your platinum bottle of wine back to your room to drink later or do you have to drink it in the Le Bistro?

  17. I don't know about favourite but we were able to have breakfast in the Moderno on one cruise and it was "different" to be able to get a nice, if small, piece of filet for breakfast!!

Probably the one thing I miss about Carnival Cruise Line is the filet mignon and eggs on the Brunch menue in regular dinning rooms on sea days. I wish Norwegian offered filet mignon and eggs in their regular dining rooms and not just for the suites.
