  1. Just upgraded from a porthole room on Main to an Interior on Grand for $38, while obviously an upgrade, curious if anyone has stayed in an interior up there.

I have not stayed in an interior, but have toured the staterooms and they are a bit more comfortable on the Grand deck. The interiors on this deck have a sofa, and have a more updated decorating scheme. Not to mention, putt-putt is just around the corner!

  2. Hi All! I know the drink menu has been beaten beyond measure, but I have another question regarding the Sun open bar/all-inclusive/whatever you want to call it drinks. Someone was kind enough to post pictures of the menu on another thread. My question is, are those the only drinks you can order? What if I want a margarita or a rum runner? Will they not serve those? Or are those a charge? (I'm not talking about premium liquors...just a standard old run-of-the-mill margarita or rum runner.)

    Thanks in advance!

  3. Ok, this thread has made me feel much better about booking a tour with a private individual rather than the cruise line in Cuba. I do have one question though. It seems the State Department suggests the entire day must be filled with some kind of educational tour. But what if we do a car tour for 2 hours or so in the morning, get back on the ship for a few hours, and then do another car tour in the evening? Is that ok? Or do we need to schedule an entire day of activities, filling up 6 to 8 hours of our time on shore? I will be traveling with someone who is limited on how much they can do at any one time.

  4. It’s been 3 days and counting with no TV on the Regal. All we are told is that IT is working on it and we are not the only cabin affected. The ship is divide into 7 zones and all cabins in zone 1 are affected. Also we have no TV in the sanctuary cabana.

It’s all part of the Medallion project. They have 102 cabins in zone 3 testing the medallion on this cruise.

Do you know how the zones are laid out? I will be on the Regal in the very near future...

  7. And the reason the Owner's Suite became available is that it had been reserved for Jan Swartz, the President of Princess Cruises. She gave up being on the cruise so that the GTY cabins could be assigned.

Oh wow! I'm guessing they would have just kept offering it until someone took it. That was very generous of them to do so. Congrats on the ladies who got the suite!

  8. Just reading thru this post again. One of the happiest memories of my life..

Getting ready to take our little Julie - now almost 4 - on her first cruise in the Breeze this Sunday!! Life is so so good.

I never saw this post before, and tearing up over and over again as the story continues. :) You are already on your way...bon voyage and enjoy!!! (Oh, and congratulations a bit late!)

  9. One of the biggest reasons for the price difference has to do with no casinos on Disney. Casinos are bread and butter for most cruise lines, and where they tend to make their biggest profits. Because Disney went the route of not adding these, they need to make up the difference elsewhere.

However, it would still be more expensive (maybe just not as much) due to supply and demand. Simply, Disney has a loyal following to a fault. I'm one of those followers admittedly, and I also admit I drink their kool-aid. Is it really worth the extra cost? Probably not to most. The food stinks, simple as that (especially if you are a vegetarian). What I do appreciate are the larger staterooms, the elegant decor throughout the ships, and the fact there are many, many areas for adults only. I also love the Broadway caliber shows (albeit all Disney oriented), and the fact I do not need to purchase a soda plan to enjoy soda whenever I want (yes, I get that added cost is factored into the price I pay...it's not free as many like to say!). The service is spectacular on Disney (as Disney service is expected to be); however, most service on all cruise lines is spectacular. Hard to really compare that (although I will say Princess service underwhelmed us).

It's really a matter of choice. We do look for seasons when rates are lower, and discounts we can take advantage of (which are becoming fewer are more far between sadly). If you do your research, you may find a Disney cruise for you. But there is no reason to pay the additional cost just to say you sailed on Disney. :)

  10. Good deal on that offer!

Key West is a fantastic place to visit without an excursion. My favorite visit there...we started off at the Mel Fisher Maritime Museum, where we purchased a three museum/attraction pass. It was good at Mel Fisher, Hemingway's House, and Truman's Little White House (which ended up being my favorite of the three!). We walked the entire visit, with no need to rent a golf cart or catch a trolley. We did walk up Duval Street on our way back to the ship to hit all the local places...great way to see Key West.

Another visit to Key West, we rented a convertible from Tropical Rent A Car (not sure if they still rent cars though...you would need to call). They are in the heart of KW, and will pick you up from the pier. We drove up to Marathon, in order to drive the 7 Mile Bridge, lunched there, and then drove back. Since the rental agency closed at 5:30 or so, it had to be a fairly quick trip, but it's doable if that interests you.

In Nassau, my favorite thing to do does not involve an excursion. I love walking over to Fort Fincastle and Queens Staircase. It's about a mile walk (you can also cab it if you prefer). It costs a buck or two per person to enter the fort. They will also try to "sell" you a guide at an additional cost, but it is not needed. Great views, and great photo ops of the ships in port. After leaving the fort, head down the staircase. It is beautiful! There are locals who give a spiel on the history of the staircase, and ask for a $10 donation/fee/whatever you want to call it. I don't mind the cost at all...they have a good bit of knowledge to share.

I haven't been to Freeport in some time, and it has been built up somewhat since my last visit so I'll skip that and leave it to the other pros here to offer advice.

    Enjoy your cruise!

  11. Hi Folks! I can't seem to get a straight answer from Princess, so hoping someone here has some experience with this. Taking a Princess Land/Sea tour with the cruise first. When arriving in Anchorage (Whittier) we would like to do the 26 Glacier Tour (the 7.5 hour one). Our transfers to Kenai, which is the first stop on the land portion, are included in our tour package; however our documentation from Cruise Personalizer states the transfers from Whittier are 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Here's the problem; I have had multiple people at Princess tell me two different things. That they will provide transfers to Kenai after the excursion; that they will not provide transfers to Kenai and we must find our own transportation.

Has anyone here done the land/sea tour and booked everything through Princess, and went on the 26 Glacier Tour? If so, did Princess provide the transfers to Kenai after the excursion?

Thank you so much for your help with this!!!

  12. Our upcoming vista cruise was the first cruise we were able to book online, it was on the sign in page.

I'm afraid once this happens "word will be out" about the spa passes and it'll get too busy. Once people click the link to read more about it people will start getting it

Thanks! I am guessing you mean under "Spa and Salon Services" correct? I'm not seeing it for our Magic cruise. But remain hopeful I can purchase it on board. :)

  13. My mom might cruise with us, but still has not decided for sure. I'm tempted to just go ahead and book her room and FTTF if need be (and cancel later if need be). I have read here and on other sites where people say, "they had only 2 FTTF left" or something of the like, but cannot figure out where they are seeing this. Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

  14. Shark Ray Alley and Island excursion. Avoid anything Starfish Island related. Shark Ray Alley will take you to the Hol Chan Reserve, Coral Gardens, and you get to visit the amazing Caye Caulker. You won't be disappointed in this one.

Also, you don't have to eat with the group. There are other places to eat on Caye Caulker all around where they go. Probably save some cash as well. Good food on CC.

Thanks so much for the information! I didn't realize not all snorkeling excursions were coming up when I filtered the excursions by "snorkeling" (go figure!). That excursion looks amazing! Actually it looks like there are two with Shark Ray Alley and Island...one adds a snorkeling experience to it. :) Thank you again!
