  1. I did this almost 15 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. As BudgetQueen pointed out, it's nothing super fancy or anything over the top, but I did really enjoy sitting under the grapevine canopy outside listening to the jazz quartet and the food was delicious. It was very relaxing for me and just a NOLA thing that I'd always wanted to do when I lived there.

Thanks, really looking forward to it!!

  2. We are on the Dawn now. Already day 6 of our 14 day repositioning cruise and it is SO nice to realize we don't have to think about packing tomorrow.

Today's soft serve choices at Topsider Bar next to pool are banana, vanilla and rocky road. Toppings are butterscotch or chocolate. Multi colored sprinkles or graham cracker sprinkles.

We are loving this cruise. So nice that sound volume in theater, lounges and even pool deck is much more comfortable level than some recent NCL cruises.

We bought the soda package. No problem getting service. Staterooms are fully booked but there are only around 20 kids on ship so not crowded at all.

Thanks for posting!! Do you know what show is replacing Elements? Thanks!!

  3. Relaxation point: Take the forward elevators to deck 13 and go outside, either port or starboard, depending on time of day and whether you want sun or shade. Look for a lounge chair on either side. You are basically underneath the Bimini bar. From here you easily get to the pool area, Bimini bar, and bow observation area with adult hot tub, and restrooms by the elevators.

This is my favorite spot!! We didn't book a balcony, but are in a family suite on deck 12. I cant wait to get there!!

  4. We had an oceanview on the Dawn this past summer, and there was no coffee maker in the room. I'm not sure if any NCL ships have coffee makers for oceanview and below. Where did you see this photo? You can ask your steward if he/she could find you a coffee maker somewhere, you never know.

As for the hairdryer, I'm sure there was one, but I am lucky enough to have lost about 80% of all need for this item… :D

We were in a mini suite last October and they had coffee makers. I asked for one last year when we were in a suite.

  5. Since we are not in a suite we are either going to have to learn to drink what is provided, or pay for the specialty coffee. I am not sure I can find any of the filter packs in a coffee that I like... Oh well I will just drown my sorrows in mimosas or Irish coffee.

    11 days till cruising bliss!!

You can stop by our suite!! :D

Find me at the meet and greet!!

  6. Being somewhat of a coffee snob, I wonder what kind of coffee makers they are. I would prefer to bring my own to brew if possible. Are the coffee makers the kind that use those pouch like things?

Yes to the pouch like things. You may want to bring your own coffee.

We are in a suite and get the fancy lavazza coffee makers. They are ok, but really really strong.

  7. Looking forward to seeing the dailies, too! We cruise over Christmas week. I see that you have been on the Dawn many times, so that makes me feel like it's a nice ship if you keep going on it.

    Have a great cruise!

We definitely love it. We started cruising out of Boston because we live 15 miles from the port. Then last October we were re-routed to the Bahamas due to a hurricane. At that point we decided what the heck, we love the Dawn and know where everything is on the ship, so we decided to trek to New Orleans and cruise the Western Caribbean this past January. That too was a great trip, so we are booked again for November 15 out of NOLA. Twelve of us this time!! One down side it that I can now probably recite word for word all the shows and jokes!!

Its a great ship, is everything perfect? No, but as with everything else, you just go with the flow and make the best of it!!

I hope you have a great Christmas cruise!!

  8. When we were on the Dawn in January the shows in the Stardust were at 7pm and 9pm. The first night was the "Welcome Aboard" Show. The shows they had when were went were Band on the Run, Showtime, Elements...The Second City shows were on Thursday night.....

We are cruising the Dawn again on Nov 15. I always save my dailies, I will post them when we get home.

  9. Sounds awesome, enjoy!! Yup, going on the Gem in January, 10 nights! Our longest cruise yet! I can't wait. It's gonna be cold leaving nyc in January, but that's nothing that a few cocktails won't take care of!

Have a great cruise!! My daughter loved the Gem, but she said she has more fun with us.. I am such a cool mom, LOL!!

  10. this.

You know whats really screwed up with this world? Self righteous people that think they could run your life better than you. It's time to stop worrying about what the next guy is doing, how much he's drinking, how much he's smoking, how much he's losing in the casino, and worry about your dam self. Stop thinking you're better than the next guy, and stop trying to make decisions for him. End of rant.

    amen!!

  11. I like the Band on the Run show, not sure if they still have that, its a disco show with songs from the 70s and 80s.

Not so Newlywed Show can be really funny if you get the right contestants, Dancing with the Dawn stars is funny.

I go to most of the shows, sometimes alone, next month will be my 5th cruise on the Dawn, and the rest of the family is beginning to rebel against the shows.

The only show we don't enjoy is Second City, not a big fan of improve.

  12. If you like watching birds or commercial boat, it can be cool. Personally, I love watching the water move. It's very relaxing.

In my case, you get to hear me singing "Proud Mary" for hours and hours on the balcony....Just kidding, I did sing it once though, how can you not sing Rolling on the River....
