I texted back and forth with my landlord today, and at least she sounds less insistent upon me being out ASAP... I really would like to buy a place rather than just being a renter forever, but at this point, I would have a mortgage until I'm 80...

But without buying, you would be paying rent until you're 80...81...82...

We bought our first home at 52. The 30 year mortgage kept chirping in my head. "Till you're 82!" But the alternative was rent for the Rest. Of. Our. Lives.

  3. So, Hubby and I were watching tv yesterday afternoon. We started hearing noise and commotion outside (well, I did. Hubby didn't have his hearing aids in, so he didn't notice until I muted the tv and the dogs started barking).

I went out the front door, to see what I could see.  Across the street, at the corner, the family were all out in the front yard, and the street was lined with cars, honking and yelling, and carrying on. It was a drive-by birthday celebration. I smiled, and stood there to watch for a while. Hubby came out to see why I hadn't come back in the house, and asked what was going on. I told him it was a drive-by birthday party. We stood and watched for awhile as they were having such a great time.

Some of the cars would stop and pass gifts out the windows. One car stopped, and a girl about 12 years was SO happy and started hopping up and down, and after pausing for a few seconds ran up to the car and gave the passenger a hug. It was so sweet, and touching, tears started running down my cheeks. Hubby asked me what was wrong, and all I could say was, "I don't know" before breaking down into deep, unable to breathe, ugly crying sobs

Seeing this little girl, just unable to control herself and stay "socially distant", hating that this is still needed, knowing I haven't been able to hug my son and daughter in law in months, wondering what the "new normal" will be, was apparently too much for me to process.

My "happiness number" changes from day to day. Usually pretty high (70's to 80's) but some days the littlest thing can hit me sideways.

I do appreciate this island Sid created to escape to.

  4. @sid_9169 in case you want to try making your leftover macaroni and cheese even more unhealthy (but delicious)  🤤

We make an extra casserole dish, just to have as leftovers.

Cut cold, firm leftovers into pieces. Size is up to your preference, I normally do about 3" wide, and fry in vegetable oil. Cheese and sauce inside gets melty and creamy. Edges of macaroni (and the cheese) gets crunchy. Sounds bizarre, but it's a family favorite.

I haven't read through all the posts yet, so I don't know if it's been mentioned, but on this page of the daily, it is really hard to see, but apparently they are making Cruise Critic available to all, to leave reviews of your cruise.  "Just head to the Internet Cafe, or visit CruiseCritic from your own device and write a review to share with the world."

I really like the speciality restaurants, but I also think the free MDRs are nice too... I have a 3 dining package - booked those and then booked the dinner show .. and will use the MDR and/or the buffet the other nights...

How much was the dinner show outright (without the dining package credit?)

Prnsessmoi -- we are on the same cruise and it looks like we have the same interests!  Sloths are high on our list.  Looking at booking with Bodden as well.  Let us know what you end up booking;  would love to meet you guys!  G&N

I'm really worried now that they changed our itinerary, that we won't be able to interact with the sloths.  We won't be into port until 10:00am, and I heard that sloth hugs end at 11:00am.

    Checking with them now.

  8. Will be on the Getaway 2/7-16/2020.  Roatan on 2/11/20 from 7:00am - 3:00pm.  Wondering if it is possible to "hold sloths" and do Tabyana Beach (snorkle from shore) in the same day.  From what I understand, the sloth experience would need to be early in the day, as they don't let you interact with them after a certain time.  But not sure logistically, if it is possible to do both in the time we will be there.

Anyone done this?  Suggestions on who to contact?

    Thanks in advance!

  9. From what I understand (just from reading the boards, haven't actually used it yet) you pay 9.95 + -  per device to connect to the text/call within the ship.  So each device you want to use would have to connect and pay the fee.

  10. Will be visiting N.O. for a couple days pre-cruise next year.  Hubby has always wanted to do an airboat swamp tour.  He also wants to visit an alligator farm (people interacting with the gators, feeding them,  maybe the stereotypical head in the mouth pose, gift shop with gator stuff, etc.)  I was wondering if most of the airboat swamp rides would have an attached "farm" and giftshop, or should I look at 2 different venues?

Also, if you have any recommendations for great tours, I would appreciate it.  The airboat tour I am currently looking at is a "small boat" tour that includes transportation to/from downtown hotels.

    TIA
