  1. We will be doing b2b cruises on the Silver Origin.  We will be getting Amex Platinum benefits.  Will we be able to get the usual bottle of Dom Perignon?  I understand the wines will be mostly South American.  Can someone who has been on board tell me if there is a Connoisseur’s List so we can spend our OBC?

Considering that SS senior management was supposed to be in Ft Lauderdale tomorrow to see the World Cruises off on the Whisper, there must be someone, I.e. BM who could get there and sort it out pronto. The FB page posts are distressing and Silversea has handled this disgracefully.

You make an excellent point about SS senior management being in Florida although I believe Barbara Muckerman is in Antarctica .  Also, per an email sent to WC passengers, they Silversea has decided to have a strict no visitor policy on the ship including senior management when it sails, so possibly they aren’t there.  None-the-less, Silversea should have at least had people at the hotel to take care of the passengers and crew.

I wonder what would happen if passengers left.  I am not sure I would have stayed.

Very happy to hear that!  Reviews are mixed on other ships.   Enjoy your sail! 😁

The food during our three weeks on the Spirit was mostly excellent.  A few misses but nothing terrible.  Portions do seem larger - not a good thing in my opinion.

i wish everyone a happy, healthy and safe new year.

I just received an email from friend on board.  They saw food and beverages in styrofoam packaging being delivered to a cabin on deck 6. The delivery person was wearing face mask, face shield, gloves and gown covered with plastic. Person inside cabin opened their cabin door just wide enough to take in food.

No announcements have been made to passengers as of now.

That is correct.  There was one passenger involved.  Also, any crew member joining the ship had to be in quarantine on board before being “set free”.  It was a non-event for those of us on board not involved.  Passengers on deck 6 were aware, the rest of us were blissfully unaware.

  5. Rather than the open booking, you are better off reserving a vista suite on a cheap cruise way off in the future.  You can then cancel that cruise and move the booking to whatever cruise you want and still keep the 5% discount.

  6. Host Dan -  It was great meeting you on board.  I had to chuckle when I read your comments about Deck 9 since it does seem awkward especially if your suite is on that deck.  We generally avoid walking on deck 9 unless we need to be there.  It is a shame you had such a poor experience with your butler.  Our butler and suite attendant were excellent.  We had a very different opinion of the cruise director.  Given that she is new, I am sure she will improve, but it was disappointing to not see her out and about during the day.  Maybe we weren’t in the right venues.

Molemaui - Were we on your trivia team?  If so, I hope your toe is better by now.

  7. According to rumor, one passenger tested positive on the rapid test we took a week ago and was quarantined in his/her cabin.  I also heard they quarantined a butler and cabin attendant out of an abundance of caution.  The rumor mill did not have further information about whether that passenger tested positive on the pcr test.

for those of us on board, it was a non-event.  The protocols have been followed and the crew has been exceptional.  We have felt very safe so far but today we get a whole bunch of newbies who might or might not be infected.

Do not let the positive test results deter you from traveling.  There are many false positives (and negatives).  Take care of yourselves, follow protocols, and you should be able to travel with a peaceful mind.

All of the above is from a person who wore gloves, a mask and shield to unpack groceries and disinfect them with Clorox for over a year.  I feel surprisingly safe.

  8. DW. We did an overland to the Maasai Mara from Mombasa and found it to be wonderfully calm and refreshing.  We saw lots of wildlife in our all too brief visit but I will never forget just how peaceful it was.  The airport in Mombasa, however, is a nightmare.   We also went to Hluhluwe on a day trip from a Silversea cruise and saw an impressive number of animals.  Back in the 1960’s I went to Kruger, but that was well before the onslaught of tourists so the wildlife was abundant.  You really can't go wrong with any of those.

  9. Lois. Sounds like your trip is off to a good start.  What information did hou have to load into the UAL site?  Were there any other forms you had to fill out before leaving for Portugal?

    Thanks.

  11. We had a weekend long celebration of a milestone birthday with a few close friends and family (all double vaccinated).  Friday dinner’s highlight was a 2010 Penfold’s Grange and Saturday’s soirée involved copious amounts of Dom.  Don’t ask what we ate…it wasn’t as memorable.  It was wonderful to have a few days when we could forget about all of Bob’s upcoming medical challenges and just be in the moment.  One of yesterday’s highlights was a congratulatory phone call from Fernando in Greece and Norman in Ft. Lauderdale.  Tomorrow, we will be back to reality with x-rays and blood tests.
