  1. Thank you gonome12. That's kind of what I thought but I wanted to be sure. If anyone has any different information please post what you know about the procedure
  2. For my SS cruse this summer, i will be flying from US to Bergen , Norway. The flight routing is US to Frankfurt (Terminal 1), Frankfurt to Bergen (Terminal 1). Both flights are on Lufthansa.. Questions: Do I have to go through Passport Control in Frankfurt? Will my luggage be checked through to Bergen or will I have to go through customs in Frankfurt? If I have to go through customs in Frankfurt, is there a location in customs where airport personnel transfer the luggage to the Bergen flight?
  3. Thank you. That's what I suspected, glad to have it confirmed.
  4. Thank you everyone for your posts which give me a better idea of the different restaurants and choices. One other question, where are the breakfast and lunch buffets held on the Dawn?
  5. We are taking our first SS cruise on the Dawn this summer. I'm trying to find more information on the La Dame and Silver Note restaurants. Does anyone have a menu they can post? I realize that food is subjective but I would be interested in hearing from anyone about the pros and cons of each restaurant and whether the added charge for La Dame is worth it.
  6. Thank you. Your response is just what I needed
  7. What are the rules about satisfactory dress on formal nights. Is a tux really required or is a blazer and tie sufficient?
  8. We sail on the Dawn in July. This will be our first SS cruise. I'm trying to get an understanding of the different restaurants on board so as you try each one out, I will be interested in hearing your thoughts about each. If you are able to, it would help if you can post a picture of the menus. Enjoy your trip. is Jay Wolff still on board as a lecturer?
  9. We are booked on the Dawn this summer. This will be our first SS cruise but we are veteran cruisers having cruised mainly on Crystal over the years. I would appreciate whatever info you can provide as to the restaurants on Dawn as SS literature is vague and general. Specifically, is La Terazza the main breakfast and lunch venue and is it buffet? Is it also what would generally be considered the "main dining room" for dinner. What can you tell us about the other restaurants and what their specialties are and for those that charge an extra fee, whether or not it's worth it.. If you have copies of any menus or anyone else who has sample menus, a post of them would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  10. In all my cruises, I have always received on board credits (OBC). Usually it is through a consortium such as Virtuoso. I have always wondered who actually provides the OBC, the Consortium/TA or the cruise line. If anyone in the industry knows please chime in
  11. GGO85, thank you for the link and an excellent review. It was very helpful. You mention that service was good (other than your butler) but is the crew as friendly as Crystal's was or are they more formal so that it is difficult to establish a relationship with them. Also can you elaborate a little more on enrichment lectures, if any, and activities available during the day when not in ports.
  12. ATA, thank you for the link. I'm getting the impression as I read some of the postings on the Silversea board, that there is a problem of consistency among the various ships. Based on your experience on the Whisper, that is not the ship to go on. Other postings that i can find have said good things about the Dawn and I would love to hear from those who have recently sailed on the Dawn to see if some of the problems you encountered exit on the Dawn..
  13. GGO85, I have done a search for comparisons but have not been able to locate your post. Do you have a link or remember how the post was titled. After 14 crystal cruises, I have been looking for an alternative until the new Crystal starts up. I have tried Regent and Seabourn and am now thinking of trying Silversea so any info about Silversea Dawn will be helpful.
  14. Underwhelming: Little to do during daytime. No real enrichment or other activities other than trivia. Entertainment was at the level of college productions as opposed to true professional performers Service on pool deck was poor to spotty Poor customer service relating to a hotel screwup where hotel was booked through Seabourn.
  15. After Crystal went out of business, I tried a Seabourn cruise to see if it might be a good replacement but I was underwhelmed. I am now considering a Silversea Dawn cruise while I wait to see how the new Crystal gets going. I would appreciate any comments from former Crystal cruisers who have sailed on the Dawn and how it compares to what the experience was on Crystal.
