  1. Its actually a tough question because there simply is not a perfect option. Personally we prefer South Friars Bay....which has a shallow reef just off shore which offers OK snorkeling (if the sea is calm). The taxis will usually get a full load to go this area and I recall the cost at about $6 per person per person one way (used to be $10 round trip and the taxi would come back at an agreed pick up time. On that bay/beach you have a few choices where to go including Shipwreck Bar (an old favorite with pretty decent beach food). On the other end of the beach there is the Carambola Beach Club which we find a bit far from the best snorkeling spots....but its still a popular option. Personally we like Shipwreck...but the downside is that the beach has been horribly eroded (by a few huge storms). You might see my other post asking for recent info about this place.

Another option is Cockleshell Beach which tends to get pretty crowded with cruise ship passengers (some tours go to this beach). My personal problem with this beach is that its often more crowded then we prefer. It does have some snorkeling primarily along the shore line on the left side of the beach....but we have been terribly disappointed in the snorkeling because of all the darn sea grass. And if you go out too far (past the point) the current can be a bit strong for inexperienced snorkelers.

    Thanks Hank

We loved Shipwreck when we were there last. Quiet, peaceful, very tropical views.

Sad to hear about the beach erosion.

Will check out South Friars Bay & Cockleshell.

    Thanks

  2. I can't answer your question about the crowd (that can vary), but we were the only ship in port that day and it wasn't crowded at all.

We had an AMAZING day. Also, the boat ride out to the turtles IS INCLUDED in your admission to the Boatyard!!!

If you are interested in our day, my review is located HERE. There's TONS of pictures.

I can't seem to find it.

Tons of posts. Which is nice....

Wish there was a way you can hot link it directly.

  3. I wanted to make ressies this evening.

Only time available at ALL restaurants ate 9 and 9:30pm

    Too late for us.

    We like eating between 6:30-7pm

When we board, will it be difficult to get the time we like?

I paid tax and service charge. Hate to loss out.

    What can I do?

    Any suggestions?

  4. We were at the boatyard on September 1, and there is now a swim with the turtles boat that belongs to the boatyard - included in admission! Just sign up as you enter and they will call you over the PA system when it's your turn. We had a great time in the water and they supplied the snorkeling stuff. Saw at least 10 different turtles of all sizes and types in the 30 minutes we were in the water. They a have a safety boat there also, just in case.

    Hal

    You sold me.

Place looks like a young, hip place to hang out at.

    Probably loud music? Not sure.

Going in Dec so it should be kinda quiet. Which we prefer.

Loved snorkeling with the turtles few yrs back.

But wanted to try a beach this time.

Nice they offer the boat ride.

    This place might be it.

harbour lights barbados . com also offers snorkeling sea turtles, just not sure if you have to pay or not.

  5. Cagney's - If you love a good steak (hearing Tomahawk had disappeared on some menus but we had it on August Jewel)

Le Bistro - If you don't mind heavy sauces (hearing in another thread Lobster might be disappearing from the specialty menus)

Teppenyaki - No fire allowed in the show.

La Cucina - I happen to like the spaghetti Bolognese offered in MDR so I don't see myself eating at this one.

Moderno - If you like lots of different heavily cooked meats served to you with a salad bar on the side.

    Thanks!

Now I have an idea what is served in each restaurant.

  6. Going to be sailing on the Breakaway

    I have the SDP

Like to know your preference - favorite - least favorite of the following restaurants.

    Moderno

    Teppanyaki

    Cagney's Steakhouse

    Le Bistro

    La Cucina

My Amenity Confirmation states I am entitled to 6 Meal Specialty Dining and would like to make reservations, I just don't know which ones to book.

Are certain days better than others?

    Thanks in advance.

  7. Because Carnival banned bottled water and sodas first, then allowed canned beverages in a limited amount, and sold bottled water at a reasonable price. Therefore, among two scoundrel cruise lines, Carnival is the least sleezy.

Sounds reasonable especially if you’re traveling with children and when at port you can bring more on board.

  8. I really don't see what all the fuss is about. Most people now have the UBP, and for free, which includes your sodas. Granted that doesn't cover water, but still ... we carried water onboard once. It was a hassle, and I personally would rather just buy it onboard.

    Sounding like a broken record.

UBP isn't FREE you still need to pay service charge.

    Other cruise line it's included

Secondly, majority of people aren't willing to pay their exorbitant price.

We don't feel $82 for a case is justifiable.
