You make a good point. I think if people didn't receive a refund there would be a lot of flake.
Found this on NCL
If I cancel my cruise are the service charges refundable?Yes! The service charges are 100% refundable. With that said, I am assuming that I don't have to include the service charge in the total trip amount for travel ins being it is refundable.Which has be thinking also about Port Charges and taxes... Are they refundable or not? -
Little blurb from InsureMyTrip:
You need to understand if those gratuities are refundable in the event of a cancellation. The T&Cs aren't too clear on this.
https://www.ncl.com/termsandconditions/choicefeb2016?hide_hf=true
NCL terms states - Packages may not be shared and are non-transferable and non-refundable.
So, I'm thinking the gratuities are non-refundable as well and should be included in the total cruise amount.
-
I am pricing travel ins but not sure if I need add or subtract the gratuities which I paid for the offers I received.
Or do I just use the total on invoice - cruise fare, port taxes, gratuities?
-
Received Beverage and Specialty dining package offer when I booked the cruise.
Had to pay gratuities.
When searching for travel ins. do I add the gratuities to the total price of the trip?
-
Nauti--First of all you have to select the offer on your AMEX opening page (some AMEX cards do not have the offer) --look under "AMEX offers & benefits" on lower part of page. THEN, you must select the offer and "add it to your card" THEN you must make a $500 payment to NCL toward your cruise (if you use a TA--they can do it). I do not think that any payments you made prior to "selecting the offer" will count. Think of it as making a $500 payment toward your cruise for only $400.
I just chatted with AE.
He said that I can make a payment of $100 to equal $500 to get the offer. :D
I hope he is right.;)
So that's what I just did.
I also used another computer to open up AE account under my DH's card.
I applied the offer and made a $500 payment.
-
Oh no!!!
To get the $100 off offer you need to spend $500 or more.
When I booked, the down payment was only $400. :(
Can I make a $100 payment to equal $500 or do I need to make a full $500 payment to get the credit?
-
As your TA or NCL rep to ONLY charge $500 per card towards your balance. You don't have to pay your balance in full.
Thanks! Tomorrow setting up his own acc to get the offer.
I like to wait a month so it's on the next statement...
Wonder if the offer expires soon?

Ultimate Dining Package
$10 per each additional main course will be charged in Le Bistro & Cagney’s.
Can you order as many entrees in Moderno, Teppanyak, La Cucina???
-
One account, two AMEX cards with two different numbers. I have separate logins for my wife and me. Activated offer on both cards first by logging in to both accounts. Transactions done by TA one right after the other. Got the credit for both:
Ok, I have to sign up a separate account for DH .
But how did you go about applying both cards? Sorry, little confused.
Being I made reservations under my card, not sure how I can get a credit from my DH card.
Did you apply a payment? Purchase something?
-
I applied the credit to my charge card and booked the cruise using my CC #.
My DH AE card is under my account but with a different number.
Will he be entitled to the offer under his number?
If so, how can I applied to my booking?

Bermuda is an exception and does count as three port days but to my understanding that's still $50/day each, not $150/3 days.
Overnight stays count as one port, except Bermuda sailings which can receive up to 3 days of shore excursion credit.

Thank you Mistizoom and Orleanscruiser for clarifying.
-
You are correct the dining venue being a la carte doesn't effect your sdp. When things initially went a la carte there was some confusion, but it has been cleared up.
Thanks for all your help...
Very confusing....to say the least....
on NCL
It clearly states - Ultimate Dining Package (UDP) the following
A la carte priced restaurants and Ocean Blue arenotincluded in the Ultimate Dining PackageQ. IN WHICH VENUES WILL THE ULTIMATE DINING PACKAGE BE HONORED?A. The Ultimate Dining Package is honored in all specialty restaurantswith the exceptionof Ocean Blue,a la carte priced restaurants, entertainment-based dining, mini bar and room service.Le Bistro - a la carte
Moderno
Cagney's - a la carte
Teppanyaki
La Cucina - a la carte
-
The Breakaway is one of my favorite ships, I think you are confused in thinking that all of those venues are included on the Breakaway. They are not.
Here is a link to all of the dining venues on the Breakaway, pay no attention to the pricing as it is outdated. This also lists Complimentary (free) dining per ship as well.
https://www.ncl.com/sites/default/files/DiningGuide_042115.pdf
Of the venues on the Breakaway the following you can use the SDP ( you eat free for one meal):
Le Bistro
Moderno
Cagney's
Teppanyaki
La Cucina
Any other venues not listed above your SDP does not cover that venue and you will have an additional cost associated. I really hope this clears things up for you.
Thank you!
It does help a lot, yet I am still confused.
Because of the new à la carte SD.
Read on another thread at the LaCucina everything on the menu is à la carte. No more flat fee to dine there. Then in another thread someone stated that if you have a package it's a flat fee.
Just to be clear :o (sorry) the specialty dining package should have no effect on the à la carte SD menus?
-
"No additional charge" = Free
Where? What Restaurant?
If you see my above post most have an additional fee
-
Even though your post is in bold and red, as if you are screaming at me, I'll still be nice and answer.
For no additional charge you can eat at Cagney's, Le Bistro, La Cucina, Teppanyaki, and Moderno with your SDP. Enjoy. I hope you don't stroke out.
I am not a screamer.
Just Highlighting my main concerns and details.
So, by your comment, nothing is "Free"?
-
When They said "FREE" I immediately thought you are able to dine at any "Specialty Restaurant for FREE.
Guest is responsible for 18% gratuities & service charges on the retail value of the Specialty Dining Package prior to cruise, except when booking a Haven or Suite.
This I understand completely.
What I don't understand is What Restaurant can I go to without additional fees????
Very Confused!!!!!
Packages are based on a per meal basis.
Food Republic, Carlo's Bake Shop items, The Bake Shop, Ice Cream Bar, Gelato, specialty items in the Asian restaurant, Chef's Table, Special Occasion/Holiday menus (New Year's, Christmas, etc.), Jazz Brunch, Wine Lovers and Murder Mystery lunches, and beverages are not included as part of the Specialty Dining Packages.
You may choose to dine in the following venues as part of your Specialty Dining Package for the corresponding upcharges:
The Supper Club ($15),
For the Record ($15),
Ocean Blue ($15),
Bayamo ($15),
Cirque Dreams and Illusionarium ($10 regular seats/$15 premium seats/$35 VIP seating on Breakaway),
Sushi Bar ($7),
Pincho Tapas Bar ($7),
and Raw Bar ($7). Specialty
Dining Packages include one main course per person at Cagney's and Le Bistro restaurants.
Additional main courses will be charged at $10.00.
There is no minimum or maximum to the number of meals that can be redeemed in a day, however each meal is counted towards the package.
What Specialty Dining Room can I enjoy the FREE Specialty Dining Package on the Breakaway?

Thanks!
Being they are combining two perks you can't really break down the service charge for each.
Just have to take their word for it.
I just hope they are not overcharging
Put a hold on a cruise. :D Have to swing by DH. :o
-
Perfect -- there you go. Those Amex offers are pretty good -- you might find other ones that work for you too. Lots of travel stuff, like hotels and stuff.
Received an email that AE applied the offer to my card, listing other offers I might be interested.
Shopping I will go! :o:D
-
It is based on the price of SDP as if you had bought it. Just like the UBP. The service charge is based upon the purchase price, not how many drinks you order and consume nor their individual prices.
I can understand that on the beverage package, but not on the Specialty dining, being each venue has separate cover charge p/p..
Tip on a $15 is quite different than on a $40 S/c. vice versa
So how can they figure that out beforehand?
-
With the Pick 2 Perks
I chose the Beverage and Specialty Dining for a 14 day cruise,
Promo Service charge came to $385.20
How can they figure in the Specialty Dining Tip if they do not know how many times I will dine there?
Shouldn't the tip be based on the cost of the SD cover charge?
-
Ultimate Beverage & Specialty Dining Package
Eat for free at our specialty restaurants
Drink for free on your cruise
I'm thinking of this package.
14 day cruise
Now many nights can I eat in the Specialty Restaurants...???
How does tip work?
They can't figure that in, since they don't know how many times you'll dine there, am I right on this?
-
There is not really a link. You need to check your Amex account on line and see if you are eligible to register for the promotion under your offers.
Took some doing, but did find the offer.
All I had to do is Add to Card.
stating - Your offer has been added. Remember to use your enrolled Card to pay and receive the statement credit.
Thanks again!

Travel Ins & Offer Package Gratuities

Thank you for your replies.
I had to include service charges in my booking. NCL charges 18% up front with their free perk offers.
On their site they state that service charges are refundable, but the package offers are not.
