  1. I really feel bad for the people who live in Skagway. Many of them survive based on several months of business from the cruise boats. It would be a terrible blow, including the people who work on the White Pass Railroad, if the larger Princess ships cannot dock at the Port. We recently docked at Skagway on the Discovery Princess and had a fantastic time there. I do hope that the government of Alaska can provide some assistance to be able for these ships to make their port calls in Skagway.
  2. Our cruise will be from Southampton to Ft. Lauderdale with stops in Lisbon and the Azores. Hopefully since it is a more Southern Route we will avoid the rough weather.
  3. Club Class is similar to Aqua Class on Celebrity. Just completed a 7 day on Discovery Princess and the Club Class dining privileges was excellent. Worth the cost.
  4. We recently visited Skagway on the Discovery Princess. Great stop. Feel sorry for the people who need the business if Princess can no longer dock their ships there.
  5. We have booked Club Class on Starboard side and were lucky enough to get one of the larger balconies. Probably will stick with out cabin.
  6. We recently completed a 7 day on Discovery Princess and we did stop at Skagway. There was work done on the port due to the rockfall.
  7. We heard that the weather in June was fairly good, but turned cold with an increase in rain during July.
  8. We just returned on a 7 day Inside Passage on Discovery Princess. When the sun came out, and that was fairly rare, it felt warm and short sleeves was adequate. However, most of the time the weather was overcast, with periods of rain, and at night, on the ship, it was fairly cool. Going outdoors did require a sweater. Of course, indoors, where the majority of the passengers spent most of the time. was no problem. My wife and son tested positive for Covid after we returned home. Fortunately, symptoms were mild and both had an excellent response to Paxlovid.
  9. Indeed it was an Alaska Cruise. I don't think I saw anybody in shorts even during the day. I might add that there were several individuals mostly children who were brave enough to use the swimming pools and hot tubs.
  10. We just completed a 7 day on Discovery Princess. Attended the "Production Shows" held on the two formal nights. They were among the best we every have scene. Only complaint is that they were too short (45 minutes) Suggestion: get to the theatre early, it fills up fast.
  11. We just completed a cruise on Discovery Princess. There were two formal nights. My son and I wore a sport jacket and a tie. We were in the minority in that many individuals worse a sports jacket without a tie, and I believe the majority did not bother to really dress at all.
  12. My wife and I have reserved a cabin, Club Class, Mid-Deck, on Regal Princess on a Trans-Atlantic leaving Southampton and sailing to Fort Lauderdale during October, 2023. Since we are sailing East to West, we do not feel that Port or Starboard makes a big difference, rather mid-deck is the most important position. However, we would like to hear comments about whether sailing on Port or Starboard would make any difference. Thanks for any comments.
  13. The majority of passengers on our cruise did eat, especially breakfast and lunch in the buffet. To be fair and honest, there is a wide variety of dishes, and an entire section filled with desserts. However, we have several friends who did contract Norovirus. In addition, we prefer to be served with the hot food being hot, and cold food cold. Because of this, whenever possible we book Club Class and try to eat the majority (not all) of our meals in the Dining Room.
  14. Just completed 7 day cruise on Discovery. The Buffet was self serve. We, whenever possible, dined in one of the main dining rooms for breakfast and lunch.
  15. We just completed 7 day Inside Passage on Discovery Princess. The ship appeared to be “filled up” but despite this, it did not appear to be crowded. The vast majority of people were not wearing masks.
  16. We decided to have the monitored test recommended by Princess at home. Our sailing date is this Sunday, July 10th. We are fully vacinated and up to date with all necessary boosters.. When we scheduled our appointment only late at night or early mornings were open. We scheduled our test for this Thursday, July 7th at 1:40 AM DST on the East Coast. Our tests were negative. When we received the notification from Inspire, the time listed was Pacific Time which is 3 hours earlier which would put it on July 6th. Will this cause a problem for us when we check in at Princess.
  17. My family has a rather interesting question. We decided to do the monitored antigen test at home which we ordered from Inspire Diagnostics which was recommended by Princess. We are sailing this Sunday on Discovery Princess out of Seattle. We are fully up to date in that we have received all necessary boosters and according to Princess we may have the antigen test 3 days before sailing (date of sailing is not counted). This would mean Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. When we made an appointment for testing, the only available times, was very early in the morning, and we decided to schedule our test for July 7th, 1:40 AM DST on the East Coast where we live. We completed the testing which was negative. The testing proctor was in California, and she recorded the test on PST which is 3 hours behind us. Because of this the test is listed as July 6th, not July 7th. Will this be a problem when we show documentation at the port.
  18. I thought the lounge was only for regular (not mini) suite users and Elite Class. Can Platinum Class members also use this lounge?
  19. I do remember that there was a midnight buffet every evening, and one gala midnight buffet in which they opened early for photographs. The Gala gave the crew the chance to show off their catering and art work. Was it crowded....indeed it was. Did passengers just look and not eat the food...definitely not. Why did the lines cancel the buffets. Simple answer....good way to keep cost down. I remember that RCCL first substituted having waiters go around with trays of light snacks during the late evening. But this was also discontinued.
  20. Nothing is perfect, I am quite sure that a minority of individuals, will be dishonest. But do a temperature check and a general screening. If one notices the individual is coughing, congested, they can be sent for a more thorough health screening. It could even be by telemedicine. Considering the time, cost, and effort in obtaining tests, and considering that there is no standard in respect to test....Antigen....NAAT.....PCR, (or even the time when the test must be obtained, a screening may be just as if not more effective.
  21. One of the problems is that if you have a mild case of Covid, you may test negative, especially using the antigen test. In addition, Princess requires testing within 3 days of sailing, which means that individuals who were tested negative, have 2-3 days to actually become positive. All of this suggests that a simple health screening at times of check in would be far better than Covid testing.
  22. Can’t comment on the drinks, but I do feel that you should be complemented for giving “tips”. The crew do send the money home, and it is much needed.
  23. My Sister-In-Law recently got back from a cruise on Celebrity. She caught Covid and was confined to her cabin, not moved to a quarantine deck. At the end of the voyage the Cabin announced that only “three people tested positive” on the entire cruise. I find that number hard to believe. She does feel that many individuals had Covid, but they continued with their usual activities….”Don’t ask, don’t tell.”
  24. In other words, it is a great deal to enjoy the ship, have a leisurely breakfast, nice lunch, and a great dinner. Take in some entertainment and possibly spend some time in Churchill's.
