  1. We've done two TAs, Barcelona (a week and a half in the Med) to Ft. Lauderdale and one Lisbon to Sao Paulo. Both, she had no issues and we loved them. Have another booked, with Viking in 2024, Ft. Lauderdale to Rome via Barcelona and other Med ports.
  2. My wife is very susceptible to motion sickness. A few years ago, we experienced an encounter with the remains of hurricane Michael storming up the New England and Canadian coast as we sailed south directly into it on the Viking Star. Headed straight into 45-50 knt winds for an afternoon with quite a bit of motion. Wife always includes Bonine in her cruising regiment regardless of weather and experienced no ill effects of the storm. Heaviest weather we ever encountered was in the Med in a storm passing between Sardinia and Corsica with 20-25 waves/swells crashing into the windows on deck 3 of the old Grand Princess that lasted for nearly 24 hours. Felt like we were pulling negative G's when lying in bed. Again, with meds, no issues. The next day, the captain described the seas in storms as being either lumpy, bumpy or grumpy and said these were very grumpy.
  3. While on the subject, what are the precise dimensions of the ice cubes provided in each venue and in cabin (preferably in imperial and metric please) 😜
  4. Yes, I would pay the additional $75 pp fee if the situation occurred. Just pointing out from my non-lawyer perspective that you could avoid it if you just ignore it.
  5. Thanks for the feedback. Based on the actual wording in their invoice, it might be better to just ignore the booking and eat the $25 pp if you change your mind rather than cancelling since they don't cover that aspect. "For any cruise/land booking, whether under deposit, partially paid, or paid in full and air-inclusive packages paid in full, the following travel agent- or guest-requested situations are considered cancellations and penalties will apply as noted below: changes to departure date; substitutions of itinerary; substitution of another person for original booked guest(s); or changing to a promotional fare. All cancellations must be in writing. For all air-inclusive packages cancelled after issuance of an airline ticket, the airline flights and tickets will be cancelled and have no value. The following cancellation charges will be assessed for all written cancellations received prior to departure up to the scheduled time of departure."
  6. Booked a cruise last night using the current Viking promotion of $25 deposit pp and final due 6 months out. The invoice arrived via email and when reviewing it, the standard cancellation schedule was shown with a $100 pp cancellation cost at 120 days or greater out from departure. Would Viking actually expect me to pay another $75 pp if I were to cancel in this timeframe? The text preceding the schedule states "For any cruise/land booking, whether under deposit, partially paid, or paid in full..."
  7. There is an area in the "My Viking Journey" website that allows you to enter them. As I recall, its in "On board experiences", "Preferences" and then "dietary restrictions"
  8. Not sure how excursion money has been kept for a July 2023 cruise since excursion booking would not be open yet unless they are referring to excursion money from previous booking?
  9. Aha! There is a flaw in the website design. On my laptop, the dropdown only displays down to Account and does not have the ability to scroll. If I decrease the zoom factor below 100% it now shows up! Thank you!
  10. Thanks, I had seen all of that, but still nothing indicating cabin number, etc.
  11. Been a while since I've looked at My Viking Journey. From my memory, I used to be able to see details of my upcoming cruise. For my cruise later this year, I am only able to see the cruise name, date and booking number. I can't see basic information such as cabin number, etc. Am I missing something or has MJV changed? Also possible that the CRS is kicking in again.
  12. Once you have checked in and have your "cruise card", you can come and go as you please as far as Viking is concerned. You just go to the gangway and board the ship, tap in and enjoy!
  13. Your question got me curious enough to check again. I found a video of Vikings first arrival earlier this year along with a newspaper article. It indicated that it held station and used tenders. Checked my invoice and sure enough. Duluth is a tender port (see below indicated by anchor at far right)
  14. Don't know for sure, but I suspect it is at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center. We are on Polaris next year and disembark in Duluth. In trying to figure this out, I did some poking around with Google and ran across an article discussing upgrades to the facility to accommodate the anticipated new cruise ship traffic.
  15. Now showing an ETA 0f 12:00, don't think she'll make it by then.
  16. They do not check the names on the excursion tickets. They just blindly take them at the onset of the excursion.
  17. I believe everyone has missed the true value in the OPs post. The take away is that gas stations that sell there gas at different prices depending on cash or credit are "below standard" and should also be avoided. 😉
  18. Just curious about the expedition ships. Did they manage to find an out of the way location that can easily be avoided if desired for the "designated smoking area" as they did on ocean?
  19. It's official, we just got email notification of the cancellation of our July 9 cruise.
  20. Jim, Did you notice the date on that news release. I have seen several from them with the August 2022 sale date, but they were released in 2020 and 2021 Thanks, Richard
  21. I notice that all sailings for the Viking Mississippi for June through mid-August have disappeared from the Viking website. Also, My Viking Journey for our booked July Mississippi cruise is "locked for updates". Has anyone heard if these cruises have been cancelled?
  22. My question actually relates to the new Viking Mississippi but figured those with similar ocean experience might have some insight. The first cruise for the Mississippi is scheduled for June 25, 2022 and we are booked on its third cruise July 9, 2022 (57 days from today). Any guesses as to how early pax might be informed if there is a delay that would result in cancellation of the cruise? Done a lot of searches and the last update I could find on status was the float out a few months ago.
  23. We normally buy third party insurance on our trips. However, we also always review Vikings offerings. In looking at their details (definitions in the details), I can find no definitions for "Interuptions". We are particularly concerned if the illness or death of a parent is covered in this area given that my MIL is teetering. Am I missing something or is this section missing from the Viking insurance link?
