  1. If it's a suite related free meal, they will pro-rate the dining package for you to account for the suite doing specialty restaurant, from what I've read here.

Thanks, I was wondering about that. We get one on the Reflection..have a Signature suite, and was curious if the package was worth it. However, we are not found of the MDR....too loud.

  2. I just returned from a 10 night mediterranean cruise on Reflection...Michael's was often occupied by suite guests. I also remember it being quite empty prior to this new suite program. I applaud Celebrity for the new perks for suite guests. The bottom line is, if you want the perks, book a higher end suite (just as if you want perks on a flight, you usually need to book something beyond economy class).

Thank you. Very well said. Maybe this issue will be put to rest.

  3. My wife and I booked a cruise last January while onboard the Summit and upgraded ourselves to Sky Suite from a balcony.

    My question is:

Will I now be spoiled to such a degree that the mere thought of staying in a balcony cabin will send shivers down my spine?

    Yes.....enjoy

  4. I pay what I am comfortable with and feel to be the best value for me. I really don't care what perks others get. If they pay more for their cabin and get better perks so be it. That is how life is. People make choices on how they want to spend their money for what they want or enjoy, and some are more fortunate than others and have so much money that it doesn't affect them on how much they pay. Cruises are no different than any other part of travel or life. There are different classes, grades, quality and etc. It all comes at a different price.

When I no longer feel that a cruise is a good value I will look into something else, or before that I may get bored with cruising and more on to something else.

    Cruise on 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅

I agree, but do not think it is a matter of good fortune and lots of money, it is just how you choose to spend it. We have one car. I still work from home. We do have a good life, but are hardly rich.

  5. I've been on many Celebrity cruises and I would have to say Michael's always seemed to be one of the most under utilized spaces across the fleet. (Well, except for the Constellation when it was Perry Grant's room and not counting Elite events.) In all our cruises we have maybe one or two drinks at most there and could usually count the other passengers in there on one hand.

Now Michael's has been commandeered strictly for suites and Zenith passenger use and all of a sudden everybody wants to go to there? Hmm....

I have to say that we went in to Michaels every evening before dinner. Really enjoyed the place, and the service.

  6. I agree with number 3. Additionally I would like to add that as a suite guest we pay more, and should get more. You get what you pay for. As the people that brag about paying $50 a day for their cruise, if they are happy great. If you prefer a different level of service that is up to the paying customer. I did my stint in an inside cabin 35 years ago...no more. We like to travel well, and stay in good hotels. We also fly business class. Everyone has a choice, and we made ours. I think most suite passengers are just as ordinary as the next person, but want to spend their money differently.

So it is a choice, and everyone has that right. I am glad that celebrity is offering this! I love Celebrity, and had left and gone to the high end cruise lines, but did not think the value was there! You need to attract every kind of customer.

  7. Started cruising in 1982, tiny inside cabin on NCL Southward, $999/pp!

We went on the maiden voyage of Galaxy over Christmas 1996(?). What a beautiful ship! I distinctly remember the glass-enclosed cigar bar, and paying my first visit ever to a Martini Bar, tucked away in a corner but very cool. We still had an inside cabin but we had two of our kids with us, double bunks, and actually had plenty of room.

My wish for a new ship: T pool. Other than that, I love the S class design, although I can see replacing the lawn with some other cool venue. But I do think the specialty restaurants need to revamp their menus. Many frequent cruisers know the menus by heart and are ready for a change. I understand there is a new Bistro menu, we need that in Qsine too. I love the Qsine experience but I think flagging attendance signals time for a change so we can all revisit. I've stopped going to Murano after two very mediocre meals there so can't comment on their menu. I'd happily pay the charge for excellent food, though.

That was our first cruise in about 1982. The inside cabin was so small that only one person could get out of bed at a time. Additionally the head and foot of the bed touched the walls. It was so small. We paid $799 each and thought we got a great deal...my how times change! The Southward was only about 15,000 tons.

  8. No doubt your granddaughter is well behaved, but one reason we eat in the speciality restaurants is the the quiet atmosphere. Age isn't really that determination as we were in Muranos every night on an Alaska cruise and there was one table several nights that were adults, and they were loud and obnoxious. I wish people any age would remember that people go to these restaurants for a quiet relaxing dinner.

  9. Merriem, Which ship/sailing are you on?

We have three coming up. The Galapagos..second trip...fantastic is sold out for our sailing. I know it went up after we booked, our reflection cruise is not available because we booked a Suite that is sold out, and finally the last one, a TA is the same.

  10. Just a heads up to those that like to wait. We are taking our first Celebrity cruise to Alaska next June, 2015. Since it's a special occasion we booked very early. After about 2 mos, our cabin (concierge) went up $100. We had to pay that increase to add 123 go.

Just checked today and our cabin is now $200 more than we originally paid and a regular veranda cabin is $100 more than we paid for concierge.

Maybe driven by 123GO?? I have no idea.

Hi, I checked ours and it is the same. Prices change all the time it seems

  11. "Service Animal" in the news:

    http://www.foxnews.com/travel/2014/06/02/dog-pooping-on-flight-forces-emergency-landing/?intcmp=obnetwork

Although they don't SAY it was a service animal, airlines do not let "pets" in cabin unless it can fit and stay inside an approved carrier under the seat in front of you.

The size of this dog implies it had to be brought on board under the "guise" of being a service animal, apparently trained to crap anyplace it wants and not hold its bowels for a domestic flight, twice.

But hey, the owner wants to send out Starbucks gift cards as an apology. There's always that.

On a recent flight from LAX there was a service dog sitting in the bulkhead in front of a seat, and being a lab, it was not crated. It was a well behaved dog, much nicer than some passengers

  12. Merriem, I wrote one of the reviews on the Millennium Asia cruise. I think that most of the people who wrote the reviews were being honest and it was their experience. There were also many other passengers onboard who did not have some of the same issues:

    1) Some cabins were in much better condition than others; ours was not in great condition.

    2) Some people did not have issues with their balcony/balcony door; our balcony was filthy and even the inside of the door was salt encrusted and rusted at the bottom.

    3) Some people did not have plumbing problems in their bathrooms; our sink would overflow if there was more than a trickle of water from the taps.

    4) Some people from reports loved the food in the MDR; with the exception of one meal, our food was mediocre. For example, some people stated that they had hot soup; some, like us and other people in our section, never got a bowl of soup that was hot.

    5) Some people had poor service in the MDR. Our service was fantastic!!!!

    6) Some people enjoyed the Oceanview Cafe; some people hated it. I thought the fresh pasta was excellent, but did not eat there more than once because of the few rude, pushy passengers who seemed to overtake the area.

    7) I loved the Oceanview Grill and the food was always freshly cooked when I ate there. Other people said that the food had been sitting around and was cold.

    8) The ship was under Code Red and, even though it was not reported on the CDC site, the Norovirus was definitely an issue and I knew many people who became ill. The crew were stretched very thin and unable to complete some of the tasks that would usually be done such as cleaning the balconies, etc. From reading past reviews, Code Red is not unusual in cruises that go to this area of the world.

    9) The itinerary was fantastic, and we loved the ports; but be aware that Celebrity tours have priority in disembarkation and that independent tours might be delayed in leaving.

    10) It was Celebrity head office who made a decision that has made it so that I am not prepared to sail on Celebrity again. It was not the Millennium.

As long as you go in prepared for the issues that people have raised in their reviews, you will have an amazing time despite those issues. Some people would choose to go again; others would not. If the issues were strictly to do with the Millennium, I'm one of the people who would go again, but I would not choose the ship for the family.

If you have any specific questions, I'd be glad to answer them if I can.

Thank you for your comments. After a horrible cruise in Asia on Silversea, the Silver Shadow, I just did not want to risk anything...especially a great trip...hence the chance in plans.
